Read about Dyshidrosis...It is inherited, not catchy, but really aggravating. It can be triggered by so many things, lotions, stress or seasonal changes, only to name a few.
Iam a 23 year old male, and ive had this problem for over 5 years. I get small bubbles on my hands which i eventually then peel off, i try very hard not too, but never succeed. :-P The condition comes and goes throughout the year, sometimes it almost goes away completely and then other times it gets really bad. There is absolutely no pain involved in the process, but it just looks horrible. I have no known allergies to anything, so doubt it anything related to a reaction to products. What does make it worse for me is Salt water, i have a few marine fish tanks at home that i play around with quite a lot and that makes the peeling a lot worse (Even though i would have thought salt water is good for anything ;-) ).
I've been to a doc and he said that it is most likely stress related, he suggested i try urine. Either my own or a special cream from the pharmacy. So far nothing works 100%. It usually gets better by itself for awhile and then when it wants too comes back again.
Funny thing also is that its mostly on my right hand.
All in all iam also still waiting for someone to find a definite solution.
Thanks

I have the hardening fingertip problem that seems to come and go. And as the one lady metioned, the fingertips seem to absorb water very fast. After a shower they look terrible, as this seems to exacerbate the condition. I have gone through the trouble of wearing gloves in the shower and taping them at the wrist to prevent water from seeping in, and this does seem to slow down the peeling. When I have been consistent with this, along with continual lotion w/ vitamin e, the fingertips have gone back to normal. This definitely helps, if you don't mind going through the hassle of putting on the gloves. When the fingertips are hard, there is no pain. But when the skin peels off , there is oftentime pain on the thin under skin.
Many years ago I worked under a very old and dirty house and contracted psoriasis. It was all over my scalp, legs, arms, face and hands. I was prescribed a cream by a dermatologist ( don't remember the name) which I applied religiously. I also laid out in the sun a lot, no matter how embarrasing it was at the time. I always kept the positive mindset and deep inside knew I would get over it. And I did. However, what seems to have stayed with me is the fingertip issue, and occasional dandruff flare-ups. I also worked in aerospace as a structural mechanic, and touching metals and using serious clean up chemicals caused the hand condition to return very drastically. It seems to me from reading other people's testimonies, that the condition is agitated by touching foreign materials, many different types.
One other thing, and I believe this to be true, at least it is in my case. Whenever I had money issues and reacted to the stress of it, I noticed the condition would flare up.
What seems to help me is 1) Protecting the hands from water in the shower 2) Protecting the hands from different types of materials- metals, chemicals etc. 3) Protecting the hands from dirt and dirty things 4) Keeping lotion or creams on the fingertips as often as you can 5) Dealing with stress properly 5) Eat healthy 6) a nice outing to ease your mind- doesn't have to be a full blown vacation. 7) Get some sun- vitamin D/10-15 minutes a day if you can..

I have the same symptoms but its just my thumbs and pointer fingers that peel. It starts as a white blister like bump that is hard and has no feeling like you have super glue on them. But its just the dead skin, then it starts to peel and the edges get so hard and lift that I have to clip them with nail clippers. The area gets bigger and bigger untill my whole fingertip is raw. Then new skin is sometimes tender. My fingertips will heal for a couple of weeks and it starts all over again. I have no idea what this could be or why it is caused. I am 28 and have had this happening for a good 3 years. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and how to stop it?
I have had the same thing happen to me twice; skin that peels from my fingertips down a centimeter or so from the nail. and back up to the nail and sometimes around the sides of the nails. It happens on all my fingers and thumbs, starting with the index fingers, then spreading to the rest. The first was over 25 years ago when I was a teenager. The doctor froze my fingertips similar to a wart removal procedure and it went away until about a year ago. It came back again and I have tried everything else. Exposure to water seems to make it much worse and progress more rapidly. Athelete's foot creams seem to slow the process, but doesn't stop it. Other lotions make it worse and peel in larger sections.
One thing I am curious to ask is if anyone else has geographic tongue or knows what that is? I wonder if the two are somehow related. I was diagnosed with geographic tongue which is supposed to be genetic. It is a similar thing to the finger peeling except a loss of sections of tastebuds on my tongue which can be quite painful and somethimes bleed. They are typically oval patterns all over my tongue, then everything grows back. It is definitely stress related. I have had problems recently at work and half my tongue is peeling in sections along with all my fingers and thumbs.
I am tempted to try and have my doctor freeze my fingertips again, but I think it will be more difficult these days to convince them to do something that has no scientific basis.

I have this problem but I don't have any numbness and its not sore when the skin peels off..
I do horse riding myself and I have been wearing the same gloves for the past 4 years now and only recently this has started to happen..
I think it might be from not washing the glove as often as I should.

I am eleven years old and have been surfing the web to find out any cures to this.. :o
I have bumps on the side of my fingernails, about 1/4 of an inch long and about 3/4 of a cm wide...
Its worse on my writing hand (right) than it is on my left.
I also play the guitar and clarinet. :o
I used to swim a lot. I quit in December 2010, because I have M.E (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and then about three months later it started.
I must admit, I sometimes still act like I'm four and put my thumb in my mouth... This is of course, does NOT help...
But I have found using Radox gentle lavender and rosmary handwash helps. :D
My skin is sort of clammy on the palms.
I use the computer a lot.
I used to pick my fingers 24/7 so that probably started it. :?
My advice: Try and keep it dry if possible. DO NOT WEAR GLOVES!! :x
Writing a lot will not help.. :(
Neither will typing... :(
Texting, etc.. :?
I hope this helps!

The peeling of the palms of the hands: Keratolysis exfoliative
They say it's more common in warm weather, can benefit from moisturizing but does not require medical attention or treatment.
My hands have been peeling for about a week. I work as a nurse aid so I am always wearing gloves and my hands sweat! Not sure if that had anything to do with this but it may have!

I'm also dealing with the same recurring palmar peeling issues as many folks here.
The cycle seems to be as follows: the palm sides of my hands (including my fingers) turn red and feel warm to to the touch for a couple days, skin then thickens in areas that were red over next few days, at which point loss of tactile feeling begins (feeling like there's dried super glue on my skin), then the skin hardens over the next week and in some places turns somewhat yellow, then in the following weeks, skin then begins delaminating and peeling, starts out in a few places and then gets to be rather wholesale.
It's limited to the palm side of my hands and and palm sides of my fingers and the cycle seems to take about 4 weeks.
I've seen my GP and a dermatologist and they both diagnosed it as "eczema" (read general recurring skin irritation). They both gave me heavy duty steroids creams. I applied them liberally as directed, to no avail. I've had almost identical results through 2 cycles both on and off the topical steroids
I've tried to use high % urea creams in the hope that it would have a moisturizing effect, but I'm not convinced it does anything but draw water into the skin from the surrounding tissue. I've avoided soaps, solvents, irritants, shampoo, shaving cream, dish washing.
The one thing that I've found seems to help aid the healing is aloe, other moisturizers are hit and miss.
Using my hands for even minimal work-like activity (shoveling, hammering, manual labor) causes the skin to peel away, leaving raw spots. Even when wearing gloves the skin gets beat up pretty badly.
My problem started in May 2010 and was preceded by general dry skin on my hands which I treated with moisturizers like Eucerin.
I should mention that before this started happening I had been wearing nitrile gloves for a couple hours / day for a couple years.
I was also a very frequent handwasher.
On my own I've done quite a bit of reading to try to get to the bottom of my issue (nobody is going to care about your health as much as you do).
I've read some symptom reports that seems to suggest what I'm dealing with is known as Exfoliative Keratolysis.
This site really describes EK well, perhaps it can help others find some peace of mind.

Perspective as the son.
My father around 5x years old, he is working for a new industry that requires him to wear thick leather-ish/frabic-ish gloves.
This symptom started bit less than a year ago, when he was introduced to a new job involving machine operations and sheet metaling.
About at year ago end of 2009, he noticed that his skin, mainly on his fingers were becoming dry and thick, known as dead skin.
Bits of dead skin peels off fast in chunks, approx. 5mm diameter. He tried hand creams, vasaline, herbal medicine...etc.
Instead, the peeling gotten worst by weeks to months, spreading for fingertips downwards to the palm-ish areas.
I am not sure if there is any cycle, since I do not track my father all the time, but it is ugly, watching him touch his dry hands.
I think he mentioned that his hands absorbs dry any liquids like water fast, allowing the skin to peel quicker in a way.
Once the weather becomes dry and cold, it actually starts to crack, especially in the crease lines of the hand. Not sure if it does hurt.
He already seen several doctors, but none of them really solved this mysterious symptom. Medication were basic solutions that can be located at the chemistry/pharmacy. (not sure by name)
I am sure this is not any of the diseases mentioned earlier. Could be something new.
I am hoping if anyone that have experienced this and contain information about a cure or anything that helps. This will have my gratitude, so thanks. Hope my dad recovers soon.

Im 16years old and hav the same problem except it's on my tips of my fingers and tips of my toes. I've thought its maybe from not drinking enough water? I havn't tested it yet but does anyone who has the problem feel that could be the cause? Mine comes motre frequent in summer. I tried tea tree oil and I thought it helped but maybe it was just coisidence (since it comes and goes) Did anyone maybe bite their nails when they were younger? I'm just wracking my brains
DRY AIR BUBBLES IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE IT. MY FINGERS STARTED TO DO THIS AFTER I HAD MY BABY GIRL. THE SKIN UNDERNEATH IS TENDER BUT IT IS NOT PAINFUL UNLESS THE SKIN PEELS TOO DEEP.I STARTED WORK IN A HOSPITAL AFTER MY DAUGHTER WAS BORN BUT I DONT THINK THAT HAS MUCH TO DO WITH IT. WHEN I TAKE SHOWERS OR WASH SOME DISHES IT IS AS IF MY SKIN SOAKS UP MORE WATER THAN IT SHOULD AND THEY TURN WHITE ON THE TIPS, BUBBLE UP, AND PEEL NOT TOO LONG AFTER. IT IS REALLY ANNOYING AND NOT TOO ATTRACTIVE EITHER. ID LOVE TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THIS.
hi im 11 but i have the same thing happen to me caseu i used a cocanut lotion at school cause of my hands were dry and like two days after it started to peel right on my tump and i thought it was cause i bite my finger nails all the tim and it wasent that and im sufing cause they are so ugly can some one help
Seasonal change can affect the skin...
It might be the chemical you use for bathing or something you have to work with.

I've had the same symptoms off and on for a few years. Mostly no issues, then a really bad flare up every now and then. Finally asked my doctor since a flare up coincided with a scheduled visit, and she diagnosed it as Eczema Dyshidrosis, and wrote a script for an ointment called Betamethasone Dipropionate. She also recommended using Aveeno between episodes, which I haven't tried (yet). The only thing (and it feels like I've tried everything) that I've had success with is Gold Bond's Ultimate Healing Skin Therapy Lotion with Aloe -- extremely soothing.
Good luck -- I know your pain.
