Hi I'm 22 and on day 7 of recovery. Can honestly say it has been the worst 7 days of my life and I would not recommend this to anyone haha unfortunately for me the surgery gave me a chest infection which they thought may turn into pneumonia so I've had that on top of the actual recovery as well as severe nausea and vomiting for the first few days. Without being dramatic I literally felt like I was going to die hahaha. As for the scabs... they are absolutely vile and don't seem to be shifting anywhere as of yet. I could probably deal with them if it wasn't for the taste at the back of my throat and the smell that they give off. It's too much. I'm just hoping and praying that I get better in the next couple of days because I'm losing the will to live lol

Hi, I'm 16 and I got my tonsils out 7 days ago. Today is the first day that i don't feel completely terrible, but I'm scared that it's just temporary. I think I'm swallowing some scab pieces, and it's not as bad as it sounds. What happens after they are all off though? I'm reading that people say it hurts the most when they come off, but I thought it was just the opposite. :(

Had my surgery November 21st, early in the morning so I count surgery as Day 1.
I am starting day 10.

Days 1,2,3 were all good, not too much pain. Lots of headaches and nausea.
4 and 5 were worse in terms of pain but it wasn't bad either
6,7 slightly
Better
8 I walked my dog
9 I walked my dog and cleaned the house .
Day 8, I stopped taking my pain medication every four hours, only took as needed.
My scabs started to come off pretty early and overall I'm happy with the recovery.
Here are my tips:

- Cold Mist humidifier over your face
- Set an alarm every four hours to take pain medication. Don't chase the pain, stay on top of it
- force yourself to eat and swallow even if it brings tears to your eyes
- popsicles and ice packs for your neck
- lots of ice
- soup mashed potatoes pudding and applesauce mmmm
- have someone take care of you
- sleep is important. Dont fight it. If you're tired. Just sleep

Hi! I'm so relieved reading your msg. My 10 yr old son had tonsillectomy 5 days ago. Today he's in severe ear pain and I was terriefied if this is something expected. Now, as he reads your msg, it somehow comforted him. Thank you!

I am on day 7 and I'm 13. Some of my scabs have started to fall off. It's a stabbing sensation. And then when the air hits the fresh skin . Ow. I felt my scab hit my uvula. I swallowed. Then it felt in my throat. Then it was gone. I have a bit of bleeding and I'm scared

I'm 35. Yes POWERade, juice are horrid. I've been on Popsicles, Popsicles, more Popsicles and tried canned classic Campbell's chicken noodle soups. Soup is ok. But nothing else besides those 2 things and ice water are doing me any good. Day 7 now. I also had septoplasty and sinus surgery at the same time. Really not making the situation any better. Good luck.

I'm a 21 year old female coming up to ending the 3rd day of post op. I have a very low pain tolerance, and I can honestly say I am dreading days 4-10 as today I've really started to get my first hit of pain! When I first woke up from the op I thought it was pretty bad, but when I got home from hospital I thought "actually, I can handle this", thought that on day 2 as well. How f*cking nieve of me. If I'm in tears on day 3 I don't even want to imagine what the upcoming days are going to be like!

My 4 year old had his tonsils out 12 days ago.
On day 8 he woke up at 1am with blood pooling from his mouth. He went by ambulance to the ER and had surgery to re cauterize and suture the vessel. (We live in Taiwan) The surgeon used the Coblation method. He had been on a soft/cold diet. If you has a tonsillectomy bleeding emergency place ice to the back of your neck to slow the bleed. I believe this saved my sons life!!

I'm 22. I'm on day 8. I had mine done on March 7th , 2017. Usually I'm a little wimp depending on the pain but I actually haven't had the take the pain medicine much.
Day 1 to 6 was good.
The second day I did throw up a little blood and medicine because no food in my system.

Yesterday was day 7. I had no pain but me and my boyfriend were at walmart and I went to the bathroom I was washing my hands as blood starting dripping from my mouth I was freaking out, I ran to the trash can and called my boyfriend on the phone and told him to come get me. We stoppedal the bleeding when we got in the car with ice water and rinsing my mouth. Some of the scabs and clots came out in the process.

Later in the night it happened again I didn't feel as it was enough to go to the hospital it was barely a bottom of a plastic cup. Again I stopped it with ice water and also ice cream.

I haven't taken any pain medicine yesterday or today and today day 8 it looks like it scabbed back up. I don't know if anyone esle has had that problem? If so like to know why? Or anything about the bleeding?

19 years old, had a partial tonsillectomy 6 days ago (surgery day) due to quinsy (abscess on the tonsil, blocked half my throat) and honestly the pain has been manageable. I've been on solid foods since the day after my operation as the doctor says it helps keep the wound clean and helps with recovery. I've been on 2 oxy codone tablets a day, 1 tablet twice a day, however I have moved onto 1.5 half tablets a day and feeling okay. Going back to work in 2 days. Keen to get back to doing something, but my scab has started peeling so I'm not looking forward to finding out how much that might hurt. Also have to go back to hospital in 6 weeks time to repeat the process. Fun.

I hate hearing abt how much pain so many of you are in. I'm at day 8 recovery and I was prepared for the worst. My ENT said, after having already decided to remove them bc of infections and tonsillar abscess two yrs ago, that pain was a 12 on scale 1-10. I said, 'Why wld you tell me that?' Bozo. Fortunately my entire recovery has been relatively easy w pain only coming on day 6 and day 7 prompted by me eating something acidic -pineapple chunks. Went to jaw and ear fast. Liquid acet-codeine helped. I'm 37 yo male. I wonder what technique most of your HCPs are using? If they are using a scalpel and scissors like a pilgrim you need to find another doctor. My ENT used the coblation technique. (I do not work for smith & nephew. This is legit post). Data says this technique leads to better experience. ENT didn't even tell me what technique he wld employ until I asked. Days 1-4 the only real pain I had was my tongue bc of the intubation. Hopefully, this surgery will stop what has become more frequent illness. I wish you all the best and if you are younger do not be afraid to get second opinion. All doctors are not created equal. Many suck and use outdated techniques. Btw, I ate soup, hard boiled eggs -whites mostly, n grilled salmon cut/mashed into the soup.
