I have had my mirena since 2013 & it started out giving me mild to severe stomach pains, after about a couple months the pains stopped but now I have this odor that I'm not sure anyone else smells but it's embarrassing enough that I, myself can smell it.. going to have it removed & see if these problems stop .

Good evening Ladies,
I had the copper I'd placed in June 2006 after the birth of my youngest son. It seemed like the best idea at the time. Only after nearly 9 1/2 years and loads of complications, i have noticed for the past 3 months a very harsh smelling odor when I'm on my period. I am truly freaked out by this since in 29 years i have never experienced anything like this.
I do not have a regular ob/gun whom I see, i don't have a regular doctor, nor insurance. I do not know what to do so any info you ladies can pass would be greatly appreciated. I have had nothing but trouble with it, strings broke within a few weeks of insertion, 6 failed removal attempts, several week long periods each month, sharp pains when not bleeding, etc, and now this.. I am so embarrassed and I have no idea if this could be another thing to add to the mistake of having an copper iud placed.
thank you for your ttime.

What do u mean use baking soda and water? How? Like in a bath or one of those douche things? And how long? Every 3 days for a month or like always. What is the side affects of that? Does baking soda kill the natural bacteria that lives in your va-jay-jay?

After having my Paragard for about 16 months I couldn't take the odor any longer. I got it removed almost 2 months ago and the difference is incredible. ZERO odor! It was definitely the IUD.

I think it might be coppper sensitivity. I dug out an old bracelet made of copper and experimented with it. When it turned my skin green it gave off a lesser version of the smell from the IUD so I had it removed. The smell went away.

Definitely could be the copper and body chemistry not being a good mix. I've heard from other people that they loved the iud. I'd try the hormone iud because it's the best option if you still want kids. I'm done so my next step is getting neutered.

But the reason i use the copper was because they say it's better than the hormones, and is more body-friendly. Were we lied to? I still want kids some day...has anyone taken out the copper IUD and had success with child bearing after? Or should i be worried? The odour comes and goes but my partner prefers to have that than any other contraceptive we tried before.

I had the copper IUD and it definitely causes some type of imbalance that causes and odor. It also causes infections. I could not take the smell. I have irregular bleeding with the pills so I could not do those but the copper IUD GAVE ME HEAVY HEAVY STRONG CRAMPS, smells, and infections. Once I took it out about six months later I was pregnant. I think I will try the patches

I think the copper is great for certain people but it's a metal and I guess it doesn't blend well with certain vaginas! I had the opposite results than what I was told/expected: heavy bleeding, cramps, longer periods,...I had to try a few different pills before I found the one with the least amount of side effects. If I was younger I would try the mirena.

Glad I found this. I've had the IUD for over two years but have had problems the last few months. The smell was rotten like garbage or something. So embarrassing. I just called for my lab results this morning cuz I was so anxious for answers and all tests came back negative. I am now seeing that it's probably my IUD CONSIDERING all the responses on here. It's ruining my sex life. Definitely getting this thing out.

I've had my iud placed in me 6months ago, I had no problems or any smelly odour before putting it in. Since getting the iud my husband has told me to shower more often because of the bad smell and a the leaking discharge I get all the time. I shower as much as 3x a day but I still get the same problem. I really want to remove the iud but I feel like I have no choice as I got pregnant on my 3rd child while on the pill and also got pregnant on my 4rth child while on the jab (injection) so I decided to my tie my chub's but 3years later I got pregnant again! My advice for all you women is to tell our man to get a vasectomy I think its their turn now to feel our pain LOL (jokes) I told my husband to get one or else he isn't getting this ass nomore Lol
