Glad I found out that I'm not the only person dealing with this. I started vomiting mucus when I was in high school (2004-2007) when I didn't get much sleep at night. It went away for some time, but has since started up again despite how much sleep I get.
I tend to throw up a ton of clear mucus, but like the rest of you, as soon as it comes out, I feel better. However, since being sick a month ago, I have been having monthly bouts of chronic vomiting (Dunno if it's related or not). I also have a lot of pain up under my left breast.
I have been tested with a CT Scan, thyroid blood work, CBC, Celiac, and a HIDA scan and two upper GIs. Everything thus far has come back normal. I do have a lot of post-nasal drip as well. Like chronically dripping down my throat causing me to cough and eventually I'll begin to gag and vomit.
I have been diagnosed with GERD w/Post Nasal Drip and they suspect IBS.
The doctors look at me as if I'm crazy when I tell them I'm still sick after everything has come back normal. My mother also thinks a lot of this is in my head, but I assure you that it's not. I have never felt this sick in my life. It has caused me to miss a lot of college classes, which is worrisome. I have had a lot of changes since March 2013, but I would think that it would have started then if it were stress related.
As of now, I'm planning to bring up Splenic Flexure Syndrome to my Gastroenterologist. The symptoms are closely related to what I've been going through.
All I can do is try and be optimistic that there's something out there that can be done to help me and all of us who are suffering.
Every morning when I go to take my medication, I start gagging. I take deep breaths, but I usually end up with my head in the toilet, puking up white foamy flem, and slimy mucas. I get sweaty and clammy, and I hate it!
I was wondering if it was a sign of Candida? I flunked the "spit test", that is shown online.
Candida also makes you gain weight, and it is all about inflammation.
(Do not take Diflucan until your doctor confirms you have it.)
I am not sure that is what I have, but this afternoon, I puked again, and I do not feel sick, dizzy or even nauseated.
It was over in 3 minutes, and now I am fine.
This is baffling. I wonder if it has to do with any of the coconut oil pills I started for constipation as I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis, or the COQ-10 or Resveratol? The coconut pills work and they are much cheaper than ducolax. I like taking something that is not a drug for that problem. Fiber and drinking a lot of water is not helping.
I am 24, and I have smoked since I was 17. I moved to Texas about 3 years ago and that's seemingly when this started for me. I throw up 3 out of 7 mornings mucus. It's worse after a night of drinking because I normally smoked way more. But some days it's just not a problem for me and I feel fine. Today was a different story, woke up and started getting ready and then I puked mucus. I know I need to quit smoking and that this is most likely a huge cause but it's harder said than done. My roommate is an EMT and said it sounds like I have emphysema. But I think it's something else, I definitely have a crappy diet, I eat 2 bags of cheetos (the big ones) a week. I am skinny, but I don't work out and live a sedentary life, it's just that I have always had a high metabolism. Maybe I need to just change my diet and stop smoking. But I love eating like a fatty and smoking. What's a girl to do?
MAYBE IT WAS JUST THE AIR IN THE AREA THAT WAS BETTER FOR YOUR LUNGS
I've been experiencing the same symptoms mentioned by others. What I've also noticed is that it's not just most morning, but it's simply anytime I lay down flat, which gives the mucos/phlegm a chance to force its way upwards. It seems like the only way to possibly avoid this is by blowing your nose a few times through the night in order to release the buildup, so have a box of tissues handy... Good luck!
Hi. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. However, I do have a suggestion. This problem is probably caused by a combination of gluten, milk, and stress. If you have gluten intolerance, your body will produce cortisol to fight the problem. Cortisol is one of our stress hormons.
You might have gluten and/or lactose intolerance without it showing up on tests. So my advice is to quit it, for at least 30 days, and quit all types of grain for that time. Some people get better in just days, but some get much worse when they go gluten free. Either way, your on the right track.
Also manage your stress. Work, relationship, economy, sleep, and so on.
Hope this would help.
I am 57 years old now and have delt with this issue for years.....It gets to the point that I don't want to eat...when I do the flem upsets my stomach and like some of you said only flem or clear fluid comes up...nothing I have eaten comes up...I am so glad to hear I am not alone....What is it? What can we do?
Could it also be that moving caused you to use a different pillow and that also that new house didn't have things you might have been allergic to?
- like bad relatives ;-)
I too have had this problem since I was a child. Reading through all the posts, I had to smile, even at the ones regarding diet and the dietary causes. I have seen ENTs, Gastroenterologists, Internists, Allergists, you name it regarding this problem over the years, and still to no avail. I even saw a holistic doctor that told me I didn't have enough acid in my stomach in the mornings to dissolve a jar of baby food!
When I was younger I had horrible allergies, and we had originally thought this was the problem. I began taking allergy medicine, but as an adult have grown out of my allergies and even when I do not take an antihistamine I still experience phlegm in my stomach, but not in my sinus. So, this tells me it is not a drainage problem.
Currently I am going to a integrative medicine practice. They have helped me with many other things, and I am hopeful they will help with this. I will give an update of my progress over the next month.
Hi! I haven't committed on this post until now. My son is 16, and he has been waking up almost daily and throwing up, and then dry heaving. It seems to wake him up, and he runs to the toilet. He is throwing up a lot of congestion (we did have allergy test ran). He also is a teenager, and likes to hang out with his friends and eat "junk" food. What I have noticed, is it seems to be worse at the start of school / or fall, so not sure if it is anxiety, or if making him go to school this year after getting sick is the cause of the anxiety. We have horrible morning, then it passes and he is normal again. I've looked into whether it is "pot"(certain people can not tolerate it...which is good), "foods", "allergy testing, even parasites. Still no answers. We need help NOW!
