Hi!  I haven't committed on this post until now.  My son is 16, and he has been waking up almost daily and throwing up, and then dry heaving.  It seems to wake him up, and he runs to the toilet.  He is throwing up a lot of congestion (we did have allergy test ran)and sometimes food &/or bile.  He also is a teenager, and likes to hang out with his friends and eat "junk" food.  What I have noticed, is it seems to be worse at the start of school / or fall, so not sure if it is anxiety, or if making him go to school this year after getting sick is the cause of the anxiety.  We have horrible mornings, then it passes and he is normal again.  I've looked into whether it is "pot"(yes..this can cause these reactions in some people), "foods", allergys (we had test run), even parasites.  Still no answers.  We need help NOW!

We all have CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE, where our body produces too much phlegm, to react to one or some of the following factors: air pollution, allergens, temperature, stress, untidy rooms or office spaces, and others. There is no cure for what we have. Only things to do to relieve us of some of the pain. I used to have this during High school, (grade 7-11) when I lived in a house along a very busy road in Australia, and it completely stopped when I moved to a quiet home next to the beach. And it has returned now again in Shanghai, China, thanks to the sickly air pollution, I've developed this again, worsening due to my allergy of cats (unluckily, around 30 stray ones of which wander around my apartment). I agree with a previous poster- waking up at 11am definitely helps, even if you can't do this every day, when you have the chance-try to do this. I do this on my days off. Try moving to a different house on a quiet street/sleeping; or sleeping in a room with good / fresh ventilation; staying warm at night; sleep earlier; have a good diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. If you're into Chinese medicine/superstitions, do not consume dairy products or red meat within 3hrs of sleeping. (Red meat=cooked beef/lamb/pork etc.) Dairy "encourages" phlegm production. Look for any reasons why you might be suffering from, and try to eliminate those issues. If you can't, try to find time off to go on a trip to somewhere that does not have these issues, or even sleeping over at a friend's place. One rumour I have heard is that a Japanese scientist found, by covering your mouth and or nose with a bandage/bandaid at night, which still allowed you to breathe, it helped reduce most symptoms after a few days of doing this every night. But you have to do this every evening forever. (So I've never tried) Good luck, and stay strong.

Thank god I am not alone! I thought this was me being weird and maybe i was somehow bringing this on myself with worry.  I have excused this vomiting mucus in the morning with so many things i cant even tell you. If i wake up after 9am I am NEVER sick, if i wake up before, I am almost Always vomiting clear mucus. I really have given up with it and i think im just allergic to early mornings. Im so used to puking every day now, but I wish I could change my life. I wish I could leave my job and run away! The lady that says its because your sad inside could be right?

For me it is exactly as you said. Dairy and or fat, sugar and wheat(like too many donuts). The next morning up comes a cup+. I have also learned that dairy from another country ( like cheese from Europe), doesn't cause a problem. Also yogurt, even yogurt ice cream doesn't cause a problem. For me, the mix of fat, sugar and wheat cause a problem, so I have learned to eat pastry in very small portions. My Dad had the same problem, and none of the medical professionals seemed to understand.

I also found it was best to get rid of it before breakfast or my breakfast would come up with it. Club soda also seemed to help get it all up.

If I didn't get rid of it 1st thing, I felt poorly all day and ( I know, this isn't supposed to happen, but ) I would end up with mucus in my urine

My doctor told me Claritin does not work at all. You might need to change your meds. Also, you might need an allergy shot from the dr.

This is going to sound like witchcraft, but I suffered with this for years until I started drinking a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar right before bed, and then again in the morning. Probably not coincidentally, it also cured the terrible heartburn I used to wake up with at 4am every single night.

I am having the same issue only now it is happening 2 or 3 times a day.

I have had this for awhile and I have found significant improvement by supplementing with electrolytes (sports water or emergnc packets). I believe that muscle cramping from potassium and magnesium deficiencies causes the stomach muscles and nerves to freeze up (like a charley horse), causing digestion to slow and a buildup of excess bacteria.  When the bacteria dies, the phlegm comes up-- usually early in the morning after the stomach has finally fully emptied. Supplement for a few days and increase dosage slowly and see if it helps

I have suffered from the same symptoms! my heavy phlegm only goes away when I stop eating dairy products and meats. I've had to puke even on vacation, until I just stick to grains, fruits, and veggies :/ guess our bodies are speaking to us

That's because the pain pills reduced the fluxing of your throat muscles which caused you to cough in the first place, dk what started it, but my husband who has had this problem for EVER went thru the same thing

I just want to say WOW! I finally started to google for a solution or at least a some light on this problem. These all sound identical to the problem I have had for far too many years. I have been getting ill since I was a teen (I am 33 now). It has been a long road.

Reading these posts just makes me feel so... normal. I have always felt very imbarassed. Though I am the same, a little bit of pain and I am fine for the rest of the day. In saying that I do always feel a sort of congested feeling all the time, but that is nothing compared to how I start the day.

The only time I did not suffer with this was when I traveled and lived overseas. On coming back to Australia is has only gotten worse and worse again. Which makes me think about depression and stress being a possible cause.

I know I should go to and ENT, but I am afraid of the cost ($) that could come as I never have a lot of money. I will keep googling and see what I can find and I think I should look closer at my diet.

Feel great not to feel alone. Time to learn about diet and my body I think.

All the best everybody.

I have been throwing up 3-7 days a week for almost a year now. I know docs say its because if smoking..... However my sister has had the same issue longer than me and Never smoked.......I never throw up food, only what I drink quick in the morning so that I CAN throw up and get it overwith.... There must be a reason for this....so tired
