Also stress, not getting enough ZzZzzz's, and an illness such as a cold, etc. can very likely cause these annoying & painful bumps. DO NOT CUT OFF!I REPEAT,DO NOT CUT OR BITE OR PULL THESE BUMPS OFF!!! Infection can occur in just hours & you could lose your whole tongue. The swelling will go down. They are just irritated taste buds...

Wow! I had no idea so many people had the same problem as I have! These annoying painful taste buds have appeared many times over the years and I had no clue as to what was the cause. I blamed them on everything from tomatoes to grapefruit. I never considered salt as the culprit until one of the postings mentioned salty foods... I had made a pot of beans and got them way too salty and the sores appeared a day later...who knew? I have popped them in the past which is very painful for a second, but then they go away. Thanks for all the helpful information!!
Just pull them off, for real. Just please ensure you sanitize whatever you use to do so. You dont have cancer or some crazy illness, sometimes a taste bud can get infected or irritated from abrasion like brushing, chewing, too much salt or spice, or a permanent retainer. You could nurse it back to health... or you can just pull it off. The pain is sharp but brief, and your taste buds absolutely grow back.
I snip them off with nail clippers also. It hurts less afterwards.
The past 2 times I took tweezers (with peroxide) and pulled them off. I know some say NOT to do that but I have tried to tolerate the pain & 10 - 14 day sof pain is way too muc. I'd rather be in labor!!!!!
I pull them off with tweezers & peroxide....... they are gone......end of story. They are too annoying to tolerate.
It usually happens when you're drinking less water. Because of the lack of water those bumps come on your tongue. Just drink lots of water. It should be normal in some hours. At max a day!!!
i get these things ALL the time! idk why but i actually enjoy getting them. i love the feeling of biting them off and sometimes even when i don't have them i like to chew on the side of my tongue until i can grab at a little piece. everyone thinks it's disgusting but i really like it. not going to lie though, it does hurt a little bit for certain ones. the only issue i have with it is when i start chewing on them i can't stop and then i wind up with a sore tongue for a few days.
I use baking soda and rinse after 2 minutes - neutralizes the acid that causes the soreness to begin with. Also works on car batteries – same process – neutralizes acid.
:P
:P
Those tiny suckers hurt bad! I've found that the fingernail clipper is a true quick fix that works great! And NO....u donr bleed to death and it doesn't hurt at all to cut it off! Just be careful and do it slowly such that you don't clip the healthy tissue around the sire little white part. And it immediately feels better once you cut that little booger off! But be sure to clean the clipper first! Alcohol, vinegar, or soap and water should just fine. I've done this Several times with good success! Good luck! U don't have to go around hurting all-day. Just cut the little piece off! :-P
Alright I seriously need to get rid of these now will the nail clippers work?
Hard candy causes these!!!
dude ive been having this problem off and on sometimes for weeks at a time. i get tweezers or my fingernails and pull em off. at fisrts about 5 years ago my second pregnancy i got them here and there i read it was from dehidration... so no bother drink more ... made sence but then I started in the last 2 ears with my 3rd child and 2 years after get them non stop and in clumps almost. they seem to be erritated by the one next to the one i pulled so i pull that one ... so on so forth. and soon enough my tounge is mangled swolen and still bumpy. it goes round and round . one after another wollen pulled... swollen pulled as if i wait and feel fr the next swollen tastebud to pop up and pulled off. I get to rippin one thinking it the sour one but its not i try again and its the one but maybe its this one too. stop it!!! it f*****g hurts.. nd it bleeds but therei go twinty minutes later after feeling around for that one swollin one. bam.. bite or tweese till i find it i wake up un able to swollow the tip of my tounge is swollen and white pacth ... stilll bumps i need to find.... aaaagggghhh i f*****g hate it because i think people can see the patch of missing taste buds on the tip of my tounge so i pull off the while scabes.. iguess id call them so it cant be noticeable and on and on the process wont heal...
Hi,
I suffer from these regularly every month or two and I have tried everything under the sun to get rid of them like salt and water, tea tree oil and water, mouthwash and now recently have been told to use milk of magnesia. Nothing seems to work!! I actually can't take the pain anymore and the doctors don't seem to help they just keep prescribing mouthwash. Does anyone know how to get rid of them sooner than a week other that clipping them off??
thanks
Ali

My dentist gave me a script for Lidex ointment (it's for inflammation)...I put a small amount on a cotton swab and hold it on the inflamed taste bud for several seconds...maybe about 20-30. I do that about twice a day, especially at bedtime. It seems to help some. I've tried everything like you have...however, I refuse to cut them off. My dentist said absolutely not to do that. Plus, it is so tender and sore, I don't know how people pull/cut them off...there is no way.
That's my only solution...like I said, it helps somewhat. It is certainly not a miracle cure!
