I'm 34 years old, male. I started smoking around 19 and this is my 3rd time quitting smoking. The first time I quit in was in 2019 for 7 months, then COVID happened and stressed me out a lot so I started again. Then I quit recently in Feb of this year due to high BP from smoking and quit for 4 months. Relapsed last month for the entire month because I was going through personal issues. First let me start off by saying that I would not have gotten through the first two quits if I did not have a relationship with God. Other than that let me just assure you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, it may not seem like it when you are in the midst of the battle but I assure you, it's there. The biggest help for me was just accepting that the majority of the symptoms I was experiencing were caused by anxiety. All the chest pains, chest tightness, muscle aches, tremors, chills, nausea, dizziness, etc. Yes, that is all caused by anxiety. I have had 3 different doctors tell me this. GP, ER doc and a cardiologist. My biggest concern was heart issues bc heart disease runs in my family. All 3 drs gave me ecg tests and they all came back fine. That was when I had to convince myself that, as unlikely as it seemed, most of the physical symptoms were happening due to anxiety and that helped a lot. Now when i get those symptoms, its easier for me to calm myself down. Exercise also helped me a lot, i started doing 3-4 45 min to 1 hour sessions in the gym a week and noticed almost immediate results. Something else that has also helped me was chewing on toothpicks. Kinda dumb, but it sure does help with the cravings. Now I am about to embark on this journey for the third time, I am hoping that since i only relapsed for a month the withdrawal symptoms wont be as bad. So far I feel pretty good for day one.
Bless you for this, I needed it more than you will ever know.
I quit smoking 4 months ago after smoking for 20 odd years, maybe around 10 a day mainly for de stress as work a highly stressful job and I used to be a heavy drinker especially at weekends where if I went to the pub I could go through 20 in a night, and all of this including the job has been for around 20 years plus. I never really had any after symptoms until about 2months in and then had bad palpitations for a few weeks and bad anxiety, and then I started taking Ashwighadga which helped a lot with the anxiety and the palpitations stopped then was fine for a while and now 4 months in have been getting dizzy spells and lightheaded. Anxiety came back then started the Ashwagandha which calmed me down again. Had a lot of blood tests and check ups the last few months that have all come back fine. Still working that high stress job BTW. That said my lungs feel so much better and can breath easier and don't get out of breath and have a lot more energy. Found this thread by accident and my word you are all amazing and brave, this thread has helped me a lot with my mindset the last couple months and again now as I get dizzy spells and the odd headache here and there. I pray all of you stayed the course and are still smoke free and your symptoms disappeared with time as I hope mine do, stay strong and those that are in dark days hold the line you got this
