Awe man Pops. I feel ya, I too am a walking barometer. Freaking rain kills my body! My acdf was dec 11th last yr and I still have the golf ball in throat feeling. I have been looking for hope that this golf ball will dissipate but I guess I'm stuck with it. Ugh fml. Just my luck lol. Thanks for the positivity in your posts.
I am crying right now... I can stand that choking feeling 24/7. It is annoying. I try not to think about it but it causing me anxiety and depression. On top of that if I try to run I feel like if the metal is going to break my throat. Even going to the beach is an aggravation. The movement of the waves bathers me a lot. It cause pain on my neck...Still wondering if I made a right decision by going through surgery.
I would suggest seeing pain management and ask them if they can do a block or a injection between the disk in her neck . You have a lot of muscles and nerves that can cause these issues after surgery.
Yes , get it done , I had a artificial disc put in my neck and the same problems. Plus my chest would start to fill up with fluid. I had a mri test done with fluid and food and found out my two valves in my throat where damage and there no Fox’s for that plus when the valves wouldnt close the liquid was backing up into my lungs. Surgeon had no feed back on the issue and acted like it wasn’t his problem intill lawyers got involved. Protect yourself.. get records
Amen. I just had discs C4-C7 removed and fusion done. It’s only been 30 days but it’s been easier than rotator cuff repair. I only put op with the pain, numbness, tingling, headaches and dizziness for 7 months. Some of the symptoms had gone away after injection, PT and other drugs but I decided on the surgery bc 7 months was enough. I didn’t want to take the chance of having permanent nerve damage if I waited for the numbness, etc. to come back. It was just a matter of time before it started again. I have muscle pain and headaches but am hoping they go away soon. My problem is the choking and lumpy feeling in my throat. Sometimes my voice sounds horse. I hope I’m not one to have it last years. Reminds me of a BAD case of laryngitis. The kind where you have no voice for 7 or 8 weeks. Ugh!!
OMG, I was just looking up why I would be belching all the time since I also had to C5-6 fusion. I never burp or belch all my life and now it is so annoying. Did not hear about this and thought I was going nuts. I guess the surgery does cause this problem.
I am so sorry you are going through this. You clearly have a problem with your spinal cord. Has this been resolved? If not I would go to a neurosurgeon and keep going to different ones until they do mri and a clinical test and give you answers
I had the same fusion in 2013 and have struggled ever since. I went to a speech therapist and finally figured out the issue with tightness and dysphasia. The area of the fusion gets tight, I have it stretched and within 6-9 months it is tight again. I hope that we can find a solution to this tightening other than continual stretching.
I am 3 months out and sometimes pills get stuck in my throat but I’ve noticed that lately I feel like I need to swallow constantly. Sometimes i feel like my throat is a little constricted. Not enough to make me worry but just enough to be annoying. I think I kind of expected this and have heard from others that it is normal. When I look down it is worse too.
I'm having the same. Started a month post-op C5-6 ACDF. It's a horrible experience. I'm now over six months and very sensitive to cold air and constantly feel like someone is choking me. I hope it eases with time...
I am fused from C2- T2 due to multiple car accidents. Last January was my 10th surgery to simply refuse C3-C4. The surgery was done in a same day surgery center and I stayed overnight for observation. My drainage tube was removed approximately 8 hours after surgery. 1 and a half days later I was rushed by EMS to the hospital due to not getting enough oxygen, my 02 was 79. I was diagnosed with a massive hematoma in my esophagus area that had climbed up into my eyes and ears. I was put in ICU and intubated and then immediately went to surgery. They removed the massive hematoma and I went home 3 days later. This is now May and I still cannot speak, I have no voice besides a whisper. I have lost 15-20 lbs due to not being able to eat regular foods, and all my meds have to be crushed up and taken with a smoothie or applesauce. I choke on everything including liquids. I was told by the surgeon that saved my life that he's never seen this in his 20+ years of practice. I've been scoped by ENT, had MRI's, xrays etc.. which have come back normal. Also the side of my face where the hematoma was is larger than the other side of my face including my ears and nostrils and is 80% numb all the way down to my chest. And all my toes on my right foot are completely numb with the numbness climbing up to past my ankles now. I cant seem to get my energy back either and my blood pressure has skyrocketed, which I've never had a problem with in my life! I'm desperate for some advice on what I can do about this or who I need to see medically ! Is their a specialist for something like this? The surgeon did tell me that I had a stretch injury but it should have healed by now.I really need some advice! Please! Thank you, Carrie
For those looking for an answer, I have this to offer. After two days of extremely painful swallowing I discovered that with some practice I could swallow to one side without coughing or causing a choking issue. Before this I was forcing it down coughing and choking.. I can still only drink a tablespoon of water but i can drink them faster now. In my case I also have a lot of phlegm, I found that home made potato soup with chicken bullion had a consistency that didn't get caught in my throat like other soups.
Listen….,everyone with the feeling of something in your throat of the feeling that you can’t grasp what’s in your throat to clear it, which I felt on the rt side of my throat. My surgeries were 2002, 3003, 2004 and 2005. They went in anteriorly twice bcuz it would not fuse. Then once through the back of the neck, using wire. Following all this I developed a sinus problem, to where I had the plate and wire removed. After all these yrs of complaining that something was wrong, they finally see that there is either some form of obstruction or pouch in my throat. The Drs made me feel like I was crazy. Now they all see that I was rt all those yrs. the coughing has affected my lungs, but the nodules are benign. I’m going back for a more thorough barium swallowing test, to try and locate the obstruction or pouch in my throat. Tell your ENT to check you for the Zeker esophageal diverticulum in the throat.

I had a C5-C6 fussion like most and since the surgery it has felt like someone is choking me all the time. It has now been a year since I had my surgery and it's getting worse. It feels like someone has their hand around my throat squeezing, choking me and now it's starting to make me gag and throw up. The surgeon just keeps saying it's normal and I can learn to live with it or maybe I will get lucky and God will fix it for me. I went to see a different Dr for a second oppinion and they said there is nothing wrong with me. Idk what to do at this point or who to talk to because the Dr's are saying nothing is wrong but I clearly have something wrong.
