i too have trouble with cramping, low back pain since my csection 15 months ago. Prior to my c-section i had easy monthly cycle, post csection they have been bad. And most of the month I feel terrible except for about 5 to 7 days where I feel "normal". It's beyond me why they load you up with whitebread, bacon and all kinds of stuff you body has a hard time digesting the day after they strip your innards to prepare for a csection. Why wouldn't they "feed" the digestive tract.
I take a vitamin called utrophin from standard process for my uterus health. I also found that a supplement called calphonite helps with the cramping.
try probiotics - yogurts, one a day helps with digestive tract health, cut back on white sugars - use raw sugar, eat lots! of veggies, a lemon with your water, pineapple juice balances body ph, a cup of coffee a day helps the colon keep things moving, also if i'm constipated a take a vitamin c every hour until i see "results" (constipation is a sign of a destressed immune system, causing toxins to build up in your body - get yourself moving)
this is definately not easy, but after sticking to the above for a while i am feeling somewhat better, aside from still being crampy most the time, my digestive tract seems to be stabilizing - 15 months is much longer than i thought i'd be having side effects. don't get a csection if you don't need to, i had no choice with two in there and one blocking "the way out"!!

Love my baby boys

I had a c section a couple of weeks ago and am also experiencing bowel problems although seems completely the opposite. I just cant go - I really feel the urge to but when I try and go the pain is so excruciating I nearly pass out. I contacted my mid wife who just said that of course I would experience pains after child birth and that my body would just take a while to get back to normal. It is really getting me down alongside all the other aches and pains I wondered if anyone experienced anything similar and had any suggestions??

It feels like something is pressing down on my bowel and bladder. My stomach keeps a swollen feeling and I feel uncomfortable most of the time. I take laxatives and feel good for a minute and then back to normal. I haven't been to the doctor yet, I scarred that something is seriously wrong.

I really thought that i was losing it just like you until i googled my symptoms and found this message board. i had an emergency section 20 months ago, they made the incision at 10 am and he was born at 10:05. it was scary, and done hastily at a birthing center that was inside of a hospital (thank god). i also am swollen 90% of the time, i have bad abdominal cramps all the time, and my belly feels hard... alot... i too have not gone back to a doctor because i am scared to death. i went to my 6 week checkup and it was ok then, but this all started happening later.. i also have bad backaches which are different than the disc issues that i have, they correspond with the times that i am cramping.. i m scared that im seriously scarred and that there was damage to my uterus.. does anyone know if that is what this is???? my stomach just gets hard as a rock, and my fiancee always seems to ask me if im bloated when the cramps are that bad . so its obviously noticeable. do any of you mamas know what this could be?? im glad im not losing it, but im sorry that you are going through this too. thank you for any advice:)

I had an emergency C-section with my son born 2 months early. Soon I had horrible constipation- which made me decide to STOP ALL medication (pain killers, iron -given as I lost alot of blood during surgery and even prenatal vitamins as they all cause constipation) Nevertheless, I still had to have an enema! To make matters worse, as I found it ironic, I developed severe hemorrhoids!!! How can this be, tearfully I asked as I didn't even bear down to deliver my baby??? It was so swollen that even if I feel like going I CAN"T because it was too swollen for anything to pass through it! I wanted to die! The savior was to go and have a Colon Hydrotherapy immediately! The relief was miraculous and she told me to take daily Aloe Vera tabs (200 mg), use Preparation H to soothe my hemorrhoids and pro biotic tab to promote healthy floras in my intestine. I also decided for the first time in my life to seriously watch what I am eating. All organic. Loads of Fibers. More dark green vegetables, lots of fruits and water, at least 8 glasses. No more junk foods! Sometimes I stumble and get tempted to eat junk food like chips and brownies and cookies..that's when it triggers the constipation/ hemorrhoid syndrome again. When I get stressed too, it comes back. I went to see a gastrointorologist and he prescribed Miralax which made everything simple, meaning I simply take a capful in the morning and I CAN EAT ANYTHING as it makes me go soon after BUT I realized it was NOT going to make ME HEALTHY but dependent on it. So I decided to stop taking it after a week and a half. And I got this oil of Rue for my hemorrhoids which was very helpful. Hope this was helpful. I wouldn't wish this terrible experience on my worst enemy! I just hope I start healing inside. I also think taking Omega 3, Vitamin C and E and Magnesium supplements which I am taking are helpful. Hope this helps anyone going through what I went through.

I had a c-section 13 years ago and 1 year after went to my GP with bowel problems and we agreed it sounded like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (I used to be a nurse so i have a little knowledge - not always the best thing) . Went back to GP a number of times with bowel problems, tried various meds, gave up wheat 3 yers ago which seemed to help. Managed ok over the years but sometimes had to call in sick as I would get horrendous cramping and diarrhoea and then constipation again. Sometimes I could work out what had triggered it, sometimes not.6 weeks ago bled PR so had colonoscopy 4 days ago. Not fun but the very nice consultant said I may have adhesions and need further investigations. I feel a fool for putting up with it all and not making a fuss sooner.
What I want to say is that lots of studies say the majority of abdominal surgeries leave you with adhesions which you may or may not have symptoms from and you can get symptoms up to 20 years after surgery. The next doctor that tells you they don't know why you have bowel problems post c-section ...say you heard lots of people have adhesions. It may not be the answer to everyone's problems I'm sure ...but no-one should have to put up with "we don't know why"...that's just bs. I now take baclofen regularly (hyoscine butlybromide) which helps wth the cramps but you're only sposed to take that for IBS. Until I find out different, I've still got IBS.

Good luck to you all,
Kathy

i am 1 month 3 weeks after my c-section and it took me about 7 days to have my first bowel movement, and i dont remember it being to horrible but i could not go again for another 6 days and when that happened it felt like it was stuck between in and out for hours and hours it was so uncomfortable that i finally just pushed so hard for so long that it finally came but it ripped my anus open and i had a terrible throbbing pain in my bowels for 8 hours that day that did not go away until i went to sleep! then next time i went i was really scared and tried to hold it but the pain in my lower abdobmin was so severe that i had to set on the toilet for an hour, its so painful beacuse the stool is so hard and dry, and i have drank lots of water and oateal and prunes and tea, nothing helps! so once again it would feel like it was lined up to come out but was stuck so i had to put on a rubber glove and pick it out, not pleasant thing to do!, then i got and infection in my butt crack because my vaginal bleed would increase in flow everytime i would have a bowel movement, so i got like a diaper rash which turned into white puss pockets like strep throat along with the fissures, major misery!!! ii am now having bowel movement every day or other but they are still so hard and dry! i take stool softener every day drink 1/2 gallon water and eat well but every time i go i have to pick it out, which still hurts really bad but stops the re-tearing of tissue :-( the doctor says 'more water and fiber' i am starting to think i have some kind of damage or something. every time i feel like i have to go i just cry! i have to lay baby in crib and listen to him cry and scream for 20 min, while i sit on toilet and cry :-( it seems also that every time there is moore blood in my stool! they did not tell me anything before the c-section, i did not know that all of these horrible things could happen to us! i had no choice due to commplications, but i am wondering if i am a victim of malpractice or what! i have never had a poop problem in my life, not even during pregnancy! also i am taking vicadin to deal with the hours of bowel pain of every aftermath, which makes you constipated :-(*

Hi my name is michelle and im 39 years old. i had a c section over 17 yrs ago and have suffered with my bowels for that length of time on and off. I have excruciating pain in my abdomen and up my back when it flares up, i do not suffer with loose bowels but the opposite i can not go a poo for up to 8 days. When im in what i call a flare up i am sick have heartburn because everything pushes on my stomach, i suffer severe abdominal pain and back pain like stinging, this can spread up as far as my breasts both front and back! 2 yrs ago my body went into flare up and stayed that way for a year, i was diagnosed with h.pylori ( a nasty stomach bacteria) to which i was given antibiotics. this has cleared up but left me with a stomach ulcer and still the bowel condition. i have now been a year under my doctor who cannot find anything in there books that is wrong with me. We are now investigating my ovaries and womb but still not my bowels! Obviously i had been regularey going to my doctors over the years with the pain but i was always told that i had IBS (undiagnosed bowel condition sigh) or constipation. I have long wondered whether the scarring has been causing me problems as i have a apendix scar also on my abdomen. I have recently learnt that the scarring can stick to your insides thus causing problems. I am waiting for the results of a ultra sound scan on my pelvic area which i will get in a few days. I am definatley sure that the problem is with my colon, and have come to the conclusion that for whatever reason it moves at a snail pace around it and my body does not ejected it in the automatic response way. My stools are not hard and lumpy as expected in constipation or large, what i have noticed tho is that when i pass a long very thin stool my symptoms seem to ease off. Long thin stools are diffident of colon problems and cancer of the bowel or resticted or blocked colon. I am worn out and very tired now, i am having to take time off work sick which i dont get paid for. I am wholey sick of being pushed from pillar to post and think i have been more than patient with the medical proffessions of the uk. If my pelvic scan turns up nothing i am going to insist that i see a GI consultant and hold my doctors responsible for the years of suffering i have had! I intend to take legal action if i have to because 17yrs is a long time to suffer with what i have had, I am under 8 stone as i have periods of days that i cannot eat a thing and i am now serverly iron deficient. My advice to all you ladies is to push has hard as you can to get it resolved! do not let them fob you off with ibs or any other such exscuse and end up like me years down the line. The medical proffesion is responsible for diagnosing your condition correctly and clearly c sections are causing medical illness to arise from having them. Good luck to you all. If you would like to know how im going or if i can help you in any way please email me on . I am quite a expert in this condition as i have done alot of research and reading over the last 10 or so years.

well its me again, my doctor will not send me to a g.i. for some reason, maybe she is afraid she messed me up because its almost 3 months later and i am still having horrible painful bowel movements. i have found something that helps a little, magnesium citrate is for clearing your body before surgery or colonoscopy. i have to take a big drink of it after every meal and drink 16 oz of water, i have been doing this for 3 weeks now, i went off of it for 3 days to see if i was cleared out and healed up like the doctor hoped but 3 days later i had a b.m and it was huge hard and painful, i had to claw it our with my finger nails and reach up past my hemmoroid to get it out like i had been doing for the first 2 months :( it fealt like there was a blockage and it was pushing behind the blockage, the worst pain i had had yet. with the magnesium citrate it still hurts pretty bad but it is at least diarreah and actually comes out with out picking it out but i think there is something wrong. the doctor has perscribed me a few different stool softeners, and im still in bad shape if any body has similar problems or knows what is wrong please e mail me at

wow. i can relate to all of this. i had a c-section 15 months ago and a few months after the procedure i also have experienced many bowel / stomach problems. the intense cramps followed by a bowel movement of pure water almost. sometimes i also go for a week without a bowel movement at all. i have had 3 colonoscopy's and 2 endoscopy's and nothing was found. following that i had a cat scan to make sure my organs were normal. everything came back normal. on top of these procedures i have had complete blood work taken twice and still the results were normal. to this day i have been to the doctor every month and still no answer to my problems! anyone have a doctor to find ANY cause for bowel/stomach problems ? i know it has to have something to do with the c-section but i would like to find an answer and a way to get me feeling better and go on with being a mother and enjoy life!

hi im 24 and im having the same problem and a few months a go i went to the doctor because i had bad headachs for 5 weeks i felt dizzy and about to faint, had no energy and sleep for most of the day i would even wake up from sleep and was still tied so i told him all this and he couldnt find the problem he tryed to rule out cancer, or pregnacy but nothing but before i left i told him ever since i had my c section 2 years ago ive been having problem with my tummy that it hurt just before i need to go to the loo or need to fart and it really does hurt, so he told me it might be that my inside might be sticking to the wall of the tummy and if thats the case it does need sorting out coz it bad but i didnt go back to find out if it was. so now im worried because i want another child and i dont want to cause problems before i have another baby so now im going back to the doctors so i serggest you all do the same and tell them that you think that ur insides are sticking (i cant remeber what insides it was) good luck to all of you and i no how you all feel and ill let you all know how i got on best wishs beth xxxx 8)

hi again ive been to the doctor and she said that lots of people do suffor from the same problem, noew she told me that it sounds like the all the organs are sticking to each other that what causes the pain (its tryin to pull apart) she said if we op then there might be a large chance that it would make it worse and make it stick even more but she has called me in for a scan to have alook to she if its is that . and she said the more u have ops the more worse its going to get as the more they play with ur insides the more thay stick im sorry its bad news for you to all hear but i do think u should go back to the doctors and see if they are able to op or not or if there is anything else they can do luv beth :D

i just hoped it helps
