I have just come out of hospital after a full knee replacement. I went under a genral anaesthetic. When i came around i felt i had a lump of dry bread at the back of my throat and it wouldnt go no matter what i drank or ate. After a couple of days the feeling moved from my throat and down to my chest (right side) same felling you all mention above. Because i had tubes down my throat during anaesthetic, this caused a lot of irratation to my throat and left the feeling of a lump afterwards. It has been two weeks since my op and the chest feeling has also eased off.
My advise to all of you is to not wait on the internet for any medical dialisis, but to speak to your own doctor. I wish you all the best and hope the suffering stops soon.

I am an 18 year old female, i just started experiencing pain in my chest when i eat or drink, my throat doesnt hurt but the pain lingers for a few minutes after i finish drinking or eating, i thought it might be heart burn but i get the pain as soon as i swallow the first bite or sip and it goes away a few minutes after i finish eating or drinking, it doesnt happen with water as far as i can tell. i dont have insurance or the money to afford antacid

Did anyone find out what the problem was or a solution? I have just read this and experienceing the same discomfort when I swallow. It is in my chest and feels like the food I eat is scraping the sides when it goes down at a certain point. It also hurts when I swallow liquids - including saliva. I have had some pain breathing and lying on my side at night. Would really appreciate it if anyone has a solution, as this is starting to put me off eating too! Thankyou :)

I have the same symptoms as many of you, hard to swallow any solids or liquids. It hurts when I breathe heavy or lay down. I have not been to a doctor and wish most of the people who said they would come back to this post for a follow up so that tells me that either they healed and it became a non issue or they just died. I also think, like some of the posters before me that the esophagus might of gotten scratched by some sharp food or something. I had some nachos some fried food and felt this pain the next day so I believe it relates. If I do not die within the next few days and feel better, I will come back and post a follow up. Farewell.

UPDATE: I'm still alive, the pain in my esophagus is gone but I now have a cold. Whoever is having this issue, give it a few days to let your body try to handle it. Good luck!

I'm 13 (female), and have an extremely high metabolism. I'm very fit, and I run a lot. But the past 2-3 Days, I have been having this terrible pain, only when I swallow, either, food, drink, or even sometimes just swallow my own saliva. I highly doubt it's the gastroesophageal reflux. I haven't been having any gas or intestinal problems, mostly just chest pain and left side/heart pain. I have been having a little difficulty breathing but I don't feel
like I have a cold or flu. How ever my lungs feel like the same as when I have a cold, like when they are filled with mucus, but I have had no problems breathing through my nose
and no intestinal problems. So it's all in the chest area, any diagnosis, or and same symptoms let me know, I'll try to do some research and figure out what it is plus how to prevent it, if I figure it out, I'll be sure to up date.
Thanks ;)

I am 17 year old male.. i drank on friday and the next morning i started puking for hours non stop, right after that i literally sounded like i got beat the f**k up i cud barely say words everytime i speak my throat hurts. As I got home everytime i swallow it hurt my throat and it felt like part of the liquid always forces back up its been 4 days... i havent ate anything everytime i eat i feel pain from my chest to my stomach.. it feels like i screwed up heart burn.. but now im starting to talk again but its getting better really really slowly and u see slow progress evveryday . For me I drank warm liquids like tea, or honey water cuz cold water just makes it hurt for some reason, everytime i try to eat something smooth to go down my throat i feel the pain when it goes down my throat that lasts for around 3-4 seconds i hate this feeling. But my friend is a nurse and she said that stomach acid is really bad to throw up the fact that i didnt eat anything and the only thing i threw up was a mixture of alchol and stomach acid(perfect combo to burn the f**k outta ur throat) i can still feel burn after 4 days and it sucks I know how yall feel. but in my case it was gettin drunk. But i still feell all yall pain... =( =( =( =( =( +(

Im 18, female. I have never had heart burn or anything. Im skinny and active. Every time i eat or drink it feels like i just dry swallowed a huge pill.. it happens for each bit or drink i take, then simply goes away. I dont know if its exactly what that feels like for everyone else, just want to know if anyone knew what it could be.

I have the same issue. It hurts in the area under my sternum when I eat. Its gotten pretty bad now, I can feel something in that area all the time. It actually sounds like it might be GERD, I think I'll try a medication for that.

I guess that it pain you feel in your mid chest may be caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease, so called gerd, you’ve probably heard about it. I was diagnosed gerd a year ago, when was 27. Before diagnosis was made, I had heartburn only for 2 or 3 times. That chest pain associated with swallowing was the only symptom I had constantly. Antacids are helpful in gerd, but I think that you should check this because it may be something else, like esophagitis which doesn’t respond on antacids, as I know.

im ten and it hurts to swallow one my right side of my chest

I have been having the same issues as many of you. I noticed that my chest hurt every time I would swallow food or water. The pain isn't extreme, but it is there. Because I don't have insurance right now I'm trying the whole Mylanta + lots of water - spicy foods routine and I'm hoping my body will heal itself. It is quite frightening when the issue is right in the center of your chest. Hope everyone starts feeling better!
