Based on my research, this guy is the main expert in the country on this unique topic. He is humble, patient, polite, a gentlemen. Dr. Kibler.
This person is talking about an audible ABNORMAL sound when they swallow, also with each swallow it feels like someone is flicking you in the throat 10,000 times a day. I am a nurse and massage therapist who suffered from this for a year until I went to massage school and figured it out. This happens frequently to wrestlers who have been choked out, thats what my son playing around did to me and it happenned right after that. Your hyoid bone is deviated to the left or right. If you hold it one way or the other a millimeter or two- it should alleviate the problem. OK so you cant walk around holding your throat- but this proves that it is the ligaments, and muscles holding it out of place. Find a good theraputic massage therapist that can massage the anatomy behind the ears, neck, thraot, scalenes, etc. If this doesnt work google Eagles syndrome. Also stretch your head.neck side to side, left ear to left shoulder, look left, circle around and repeat right. If this doesnt work visit a Chiropractor, if not then go see an EENT ears, eyes nose throat doctor- he will most likely tell you it all in your head tho- like mine did- after spending $400- i massaged it out myself.

When I sat up straight (putting another pillow behind me to help me sit up straight), the popping in throat soon ended.
The only times I have experienced this is when I was not sitting up straight while swallowing food.
You ALL need to see the symptoms of Eagles Syndrome and rule it out. I am a 43 year old nurse . 6 mos ago I had a sudden onset of clicking when I swallowed (otherwise perfect health), but it didnt always click if I turned my head a certain way. I waited for it to subside on its own. I googled-found many people plagued with same thing-very much misdagnosed. Hyoid bone involvment was what I finally found may be a cause-ussually from traume-wrestlers usually get this. The treatment is somewhat dangerous surgery-shaving down the Hyoid bone and surrounding ligamenture. I finally went to an ENT-Ears nose throat Dr-(You must consult a specialist-regular Drs dont know enough) I had a CT scan with dye and without-he found calcification on one side of my neck-the Styloid ligament and Styloid process (prominence that sticks out) may be problem. These structures pull the Larxny up when swallowing. He said I might have Eagles syndrom-I googled it and found many helpful sites. Good Luck...See an ENT and fro Gods sake-DONT SMOKE!!!!T Conservative treatment may include stretching exercises, Chiropractic, Steroid injection, NSAID non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (like kicked up Motrin).
Update: I am a nurse & have since become a massage therapist & I can say without a doubt- you probably need a good massage from a deep tissue neuromuscular therapist (not a froo-froo massage) all the ligature and surrounding soft tissue is pulling the floating (strangle) bone in the neck/throat to one side-displacing it. If you push the adams apple to one side-it improves. It feels like someone is flicking you with every saliva swallow, and it is externally audible and feels unconfortable and is annoying. This is NOT the click that medical people normally hear when placing a stethesscope in the throat to listen for the normal swallow reflex. This is ABnormal. Youe need massage under chin, up near ear, neck, scalenes, maybe upper back and trapd too, and SCM. Hope this helps since so many people cant find answers. Julie
