the best thing thats worked for me, is drinking alot of water, and not washing your hands too much, because the soap and stuff can dry out the skin.
but thats only worked for me, i guess it could be a factor of dehydration?

Hi, i have sufferd with this condition for almost a year now. im 28 and it is getting annoying and embarrassing to say the least. The skin on the palm of my right hand, and all fingers just dries up, cracks and peels off within days off new skin forming. i cant say i feel any discomfort during the peeling process but the skin on my fingers is starting to feel almost rubbery. the sight of these white bubbles of dry, dead skin is really getting to me now :-(
Any help / advice will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

since i have dogs that sleep inside. i use clorox to clean the house and i also like using it for cleaning the bathroom etc..
i never used gloves the times i used clorox and it fell on my hands a few times and i use to keep cleaning and wash my hand later on.
i started noticing on my right hand my pinky and palm started itching a lot and peeling and months when past and it started spreading to other fingers on my right hand and i really get embarrassed.

I had this from about 13 til now (18).. It comes and goes and i don't know if it a seasonal thing or just due to the fact that i am using a lot of detergents etc. I do wash my hands a lot and it does have a tendency to get worse sometimes as well.
I get dryness on my fingertips and after a couple of weeks it usually spreads to my palms. When people ask what it is i just say its from when i go to the gym and the weights peal my skin away..
It isn't REALLY bad but it is reasonably bad and does make me self consicne about shaking peoples hands etc
The only thing i do is sometimes try not to wash my hands and i will try and moisturize a lot, but my mum said she had it wen she was younger and grew out of it...
soo hopefully goes soon, helpful tips ppz about the creams etc i will try and use them

i am fairly young and i have this problem with pealing fingers.it happens alot and it is verry painful since we use our hands so much. somdays my fingers feel like they've been rubbed raw. i have used this stuff called "O'Keiffes working hands cream" and its amazing my fingers don't hurt alot, but it only works if you aply it alot. hope you all with the same problem use this stuff
i have had this for a couple of years now and it is really annoying. i notice that it usually occurs after a night of drinking but that may just be a coincidence. i've tried all sorts of lotions but nothing really works. drinking a lot of water does help but the condition lasts a week or two before it goes away. the worst part is the itching : ( if anyone has a remedy please let me know. thanks.
I've had this problem off and on since I was a child (I'm now 33). My parents used to tell me it was Athletes foot and make me wear socks on my hands with anti-fungal cream all night, needless to say this didnt help. The older I get the longer period of time there is between outbreaks and the shorter each one lasts but this time has been particularly long. I've noticed that if I take a bath and let them soak then exfoliate them with pumice that helps, I also put A&D ointment on them before bed but those things only seem to tame it a bit, not cure it. It does make me feel better that I'm not the only one and good luck to all of us to find something that works.
I just developed this problem of peeling hands. I just got over the flu and now my hands are peeling uncontrolably. They itch and peel. I have put on aquaphor and vasaine but it works temporarily. I have been told its dead skin and tried saltrubs and that worked temporarily. Why are my hands peeling?
I had this problem for a long time and no matter what lotions i used it wouldnt clear up, so i resigned myself to the fact it wasnt going to go away fast. However recently I started using bio oil for stretch marks and found that as i was using my hands to rub it in, it really helped my peeling fingers. My hands are stil a little dry but the peeling has virtually stopped. Maybe a coincidence but worth a try. I hope this is useful.

I can't even remember when my hands started becoming horribly dry and peeled. I do know that I have had this condition for at least 7 years because I remember worrying about touching my newborn son with such rough hands thinking it would hurt his delicate new skin (he is now almost 8). I was diagnosed with Hashimotos disease 4 years ago which is a thyroid disease but I don't see the relation. I have seen a dermatologist 4 times now where they shrug their shoulders and prescribe me a steroid cream that doesn't work. In fact the last doctor I saw said don't use the steroid cream that it is only making it worse. I pretty much have it all year long through winter and summer however I live in a climate that doesn't have 4 seasons so I don't know if that even matters. I notice that I have severe outbreaks after exercising where my palms get sweaty. Also swimming in pools trigger more peeling. My job requires me to shake hands constantly and it is terribly embarrassing when I shake a mans hand that is softer than mine. I wonder if only I am aware of it because I am self conscious. All I know is I have done everything possible with using mild soap, detergents, hired a cleaning lady so I don't have to clean with harsh chemicals, taken lots of vitamins and minerals, stopped taking vitamins and minerals, all kinds of lotions that just leave a greasy residue that make my hands feel clammy and gross. It seems like I have done it all. I wish I had a answer but I am looking on these forums for an answer myself. Please someone say there is a cure!
i have had this problem since i was an adolescent until present time. My skin also peels on the bottom of my feet. A couple years ago I went vegetarian for a a year or two and it went away. Now im not saying you have to go vegetarian to beat this..my point is this; The body works from the inside out. So when I was a veggie eater full time i was giving my body the nutrients and minerals and vitamins i needed for my body to operate properly. And thats just one of many possible solutions, it worked for me, it may not work for everyone but if your tired of it i recommend stop eating red meat altogether and get healthy about your diet. It could also be stress related as well, but I have not done research in that area.
i am no longer a vegetarian and the problem has re-surfaced. I also started eating red meat and that is when i noticed its re-occurrence.

I'm not a doctor, but I have an answer. Mine have been doing this for 8 years. Most of the time it is in the winter when the heat is turned up a little bit higher than usual. My doctor gave me a creme, but since the refill ran out, I have felt very lazy about getting another prescribed. Petroleum Jelly, aka Vaseline, has been working. How I apply it is, first, I make sure I have some winter gloves handy. I put the Vaseline on my hands before bed, and I put gloves on my hands to make sure I don't get it everywhere when I'm sleeping. Try that. It always seems to clear it up after a couple of days. It will probably come back later, but you can always fix it again. I don't know if that will help you guys, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Doctors never seem to know what it is, but they always get me a cream that fixes it. If this doesn't help, Google it.
I've been dealing with dry and peeling skin on my hands for three weeks now, too. I've done tons of research and while I haven't found a cure for whatever the hell it is that's got my hands all messed up, I think I might know what is going on with yours, DQ....
I've found a few resources that talk about the body retaining sweat. Since the skin on our palms and the soles of our feet is the thickest on our bodies, sweat that doesn't leave though our pores can accumulate and "pool" under the skin. Eventually the skin above the "pooled" sweat cracks and voila, you have a waterlike discharge. Of course, there are no explanations anywhere as to why the sweat pools in the first place, but it may be an answer to your blister-like troubles.
Good luck. To all of us. Peeling hands are the worst! They really do! God forbid you've got to shake someone's hand... "Uh, hello sir, my name is Bob and I don't have leprosy, I swear. What do I have? Well, gee, I don't know. Actually, nobody knows. Not my general doctor, my oncologist OR my dermatologist. Nobody knows. You see, there are times, just like this meeting with you, where I'm quite certain that me and all my friends on steadyhealth.com are doomed to a life of cracked hands and waterlike discharges. You still love me though, don't you?"
Ugh. No fun. None at all.

I have the same problem. What it is, is eczema of the hand, or hand dermatitis. It can be genetic or not. It can also come from stress, No one else, that I know of, in my family has it. For all I know, I'm the first. And it stinks. My skin gets dry and rough then I start to produce small callus'. Not being able to contain myself I start to peel them off which causes the rest of my skin on my palm to peel as well. It irritating and it can hurt because of the dryness. Alcoholic substances, such as purell, burns when applied.
what to do?
