I had a coughing infection caught from grandchildren. Could not stop coughing. Stayed around for 4 weeks and just before finished as still coughing my throat closed over and I felt I could not breath.
I went to hospital - they said that I would not die from it as it is a natural thing for the body to breathe.
Scared the heck out of me - making me panick though.
I do wake up if eat late at night - sometimes from horrible food acid but not frequent - cure eat early.
I think you can have some skin removed from the throat if you have too much - see dr.
Another thing is apnea. I have a mouth gaurd that will push your lower jaw back which stops the apnea. opens up the throat. Good luck
Laryngospasm?
I'm trying to figure it out for myself. My husband would mock me calling me a hypochondriac saying I have issues about choking. I would say yes... I like to breathe. He couldn't understand why I had this problem once in a while. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night frantically gasping for air but I had the worst episode last night before bed while I was awake. I was washing my face. Thought that was my final breath. Couldn't breathe in or out. Anyway I do notice that it happens sporadically if I am eating chocolate, things that are vinegary like salad dressing or has a citric component (lemon/limes). So I'm figuring it's an acid reaction to foods and at night it could be acid re-flux from foods that tickle the larynx and cause a spasm. Now when I eat those kind of foods I am more careful about chewing slowly and swallowing with careful eating. I also make sure I have water nearby in case I need to wash food down. I've been having such a dry mouth lately and that doesn't help to swallow things. I have to drink more water it seems. Just my theory but scary as hell and my husband (now ex) is a jerk for not sympathizing or considering my real condition.
