Getting cyst on scalp removed -- questions?

Hi there, I have had a benign cyst on my scalp for a few years now. I am finally getting it removed next week. My question is, has anybody has this done? I am wondering what the aftercare will be? Will I have to wear a big bandage on my hair for days? Can I wash my hair? The doc said it would be about a 1 cm incision with 2, maximum 3 stitches. He will just shave the hair exactly where the cyst is (about 1 cm). I'm worried I will have to walk around with a big bandage on my hair and stitches sticking out. Thanks!

I had a large cyst removed from the top of my head yesterday. It has been there for almost 50 years (started out small & grew over the years). I am so relieved it is gone. The procedure took about 30 minutes in the surgeon's office. It was completely painless. I have a little discomfort now, but no pain. I have no idea why I waited so long to do this.
I know this post is a year old. I am going for the procedure Wednesday and I am wondering if your grew back?
DO YOU THINK THE CYST WILL GROW BACK
Did the doctor advise you that i could grow back? My brother had his lanced in the past and it grew back.
I just had a scalp cyst removed today and the procedure was very simple and nothing to be worried about. They did not do a head scan prior as they said as long as its movable it is not necessary. The only part of this procedure I would say was uncomfortable was when they inserted the needle to do the local freezing. It pinched and stung quite a bit, not unbearable by any means but uncomfortable for sure. The actual procedure from star to finish was about twenty mins. My cyst was rather large, it was 3 cm diameter and my incision has 9 stitches. They shaved a small portion of my hair and the stitches are dissolving. My surgeon says to take Tylenol for pain and not Advil as it promotes bleeding. He also said don't exercise for one week. All in all this was a very simple procedure and I would recommended that if anyone is going to do this to not worry or be scared. And no, there was no bandage. I put pressure on it for ten mins after it was completed with a tissue and that was it. I am very glad to write on one of these boards about my experience because before I went for this I read many boards. Good luck to you all you will be fine!
I just had a sebaceous cyst removed this morning. It was directly on top of my head (button on a baseball cap) and went a lot better than expected! I have had it for ~5 years and got it removed as I started getting a little insecure about it if I was not wearing a hat at sporting events, restaurants, etc. It was roughly 3cm and cost about $600 from a plastic surgeon as that was the best way to go from my research. He first marked the site, used local to numb it then made an incision and removed it whole. Decent amount of blood but from my research and what the Dr. said I expected it. Took about an hour. A little pain towards the end when suturing but other than that not bad. I recommend when getting stuck with needles (I HATE needles) to pinch yourself really hard in your arm. That way the pinch hurts worse than the needle and you do not notice it too much. I was prescribed anti-biotics to start 5 days prior and for the next couple days. I will return to get the stiches out in 2 week. I was also prescribed Hydrocodone but I never take any medication of any kind so will take an ibuprofen if need be but 15hrs later and I have been able to "tough it out." I am happy I got it done and wish I had done it sooner. That being said, from guy who never goes to doctors, I hope I never get another one!
I had mine removed yesterday and it still swollen like if the syst still there..... was it the same for you???? No antibiotics or meds for me only ice compression, what about you???
Getting mine done tomorrow morning! Will try to remember to update everyone here. I'm only really worried about having a bald patch for a few weeks
I've had two scalp cysts removed in the past, both rather small. They had started to develop small bald spots where the skin was stretched. The larger one had drained on its own once but quickly refilled, so I opted to have a professional take care of them. The doctor used local anesthesia and excised them intact. He only snipped off a tiny amount of hair. A little blood ran from the site during the operation, but not too much. He used the type of sutures that don't have to be removed. He also applied a huge glob of antibiotic ointment over each wound site. I was told not to wash my hair for 24 hours. The ointment made my hair disgusting, and I had to wash it with olive oil and then Dawn soap to remove the greasy residue. Not fun. The wounds were a little tender, but no more than any other stitched wound. One of them looked like it was reopening a week later, but it was just the body pushing the last suture out rather than dissolving it. Neither cyst came back, but, thankfully, my hair did. Unfortunately, I get them from hitting my head, and I now have four new ones, including one that became inflamed and started draining three months ago and is always either scabbed over or oozing, never healing, so I will have to have it excised. The hard contents will not squeeze out, just plasma, pus, and a little blood. I'll have all four of them removed if the copay is not too high. When they're not draining, they're harmless, and are hidden under my hair, but they're annoying. If you have scalp cysts, I recommend getting them excised while they're still small, as the wound will be smaller, and less connective tissue will have to be torn to remove them, making them much less bloody and painful to remove than larger cysts.
On the scalp, cyst are not that may grow. Lypoma(how it is pronounced) tumors, mass of fat can occur. It is disturbing yet fascinating how they got there. Recommended to have dr/dermatologist/surgeon to have an image where and how deep it is. Would not be surprised if attach to the muscle or skull. General anesthesia is need to reduce pain in case.
I had a scalp cyst drained and sack removed today. It ruptured last night while sleeping. I had no stitches and he gave me some gauze and told me to use a hat or headband to hold gauze in place until no more drainage seen on dressings. He told me I can shower, wash my hair etc. He did not shave area. Because it had ruptured he could not remove all the casing. Told me if it felt like it was growing back in 4-6 weeks he could remove it then after the area has healed.
Over many years I have had four cysts removed. It is a quick procedure, no bandages, no pain. A week later, the few stitches are removed and that is it! I have two more about to be removed.....Otherwise, I am in excellent health at 79 years! Fear not.....
Thank you so much ,
I just had mine removed this morning and aftercare is very simple. No bandage and my Dr didn't shave my hair. She just pulled most hair away from and taped it down then snipped just the few hairs around the cyst. She put few staples and few sutures since my cyst was slightly larger than a cm and she had to cut 2 1/2 cm to remove it. Just. Lean with hydrogen peroxide daily and apply antibiotic ointment daily with q-tip.. when I left dr office couldn't even tell anything done
