Banana was recognized as a food allergen already about 80 years ago and IgE mediated reactions have been described by several authors since the 1970s. Several cases of anaphylactic reactions to banana have been reported. Severe reactions were recently reported to have occurred in 6-month-old children, in one of the cases the first time the fruit was eaten by the child.
Allergic reactions to banana have been observed to be common in adults and children with latex hypersensitivity. The sensitivity has been ascribed to the presence of cross-reacting IgE binding allergen epitopes in the banana fruit and in the natural rubber latex of Hevea brasiliensis. Several studies have shown that IgE binding to separated banana proteins can be inhibited by latex extracts. However, it is obvious that banana allergy can also be fully independent of latex hypersensitivity. It is clear from the comparative studies that both allergen sources are heterogeneous mixtures of several allergenic proteins and that patients, as with all other allergens, produce IgE antibodies to their own individual selection of allergenic components. The correlation between measured IgE antibody concentrations to banana and latex does not identify cross-reacting allergens as the dominating allergens.
Banana has also been suspected of sharing allergens with other fruits, like avocado and kiwi, that show antigenic relations to natural rubber latex, and with melon and ragweed pollen.
Allergen specific IgE antibodies can be quantitated in serum and testing should be considered in the investigation of suspected latex allergy, in food allergy in children, and in urticaria of unknown cause.

Wow, I thought I was the only one, I feel like dying right now. I don't normally eat bananas but eating one with ice cream never bothered me...till now, never again. You mentioned a few things that do the same to me, avacodo & melon, but there are a few more for me, mayonnaise, eggs and oats. OWWW!
Omg melon and avocados also do this to me as well. I used to be able to eat avacados with no problem I loved them. Then all of a sudden serious pain was happening after eating them. Bananas and cantelope have always done this but now it has moved on to all melons, pineapple and some berries. People think you are crazy when you say you cannot eat fruit.
I experienced the same problem now that I'm older. Bananas used to be my favourite fruit when I was a child. However, things changed when I started college. Now if I dare to eat a fresh banana, it's basicaly asking for trouble. I get horrible cramps and pain in my stomach.
However, I noticed that if I eat dried bananas (in muesli) I don't experience any abdominal discomfort. The same goes for cookies that have a fresh banana as their ingredient. It's quite confusing as to why this happens. It probably has something to do with the baking/drying process banana goes through - at least that is what I think.
I discovered that I am now intolerant to bananas about 7-8 months ago. I randomly ate one by itself and an hour later I had adominal cramps that had me in a fetal position crying (worse than PMS). I just assumed it was gas until it happened again when I had one with cereal. I assumed it was the milk (my family has a history of lactose intolerance). Then I went on a juice diet for 7 days and drank green juice that has banana puree in it. Adominal cramping, vomiting and diahrehea until it was completely out of my system. Haven't had a RAW banana since. I can eat bananas as long as they are cooked. Which makes since since it's enzymes(proteins) and they are denatured with heat.
My school served green bananas and I ate one around 12:27 pm. I instantly got stomach aches and am sick to my stomach with major gas. What the hell is happening?
but what kind of smoothie?
