I had GL surgery on Dec 18th Cath out the next day a little bleeding the first few days things seem to be well at this point Jan 6. Dr said may have some light bleeding from time to time for sometime as the healing takes place but I haven't beyond the first week.

Hi all, I'm 5 days after green light by one of the best urologists in New England. He was straight forward and warned me of the aftermath, (Peeing razor blades and needles) He was right. The surgery was totally painless (took 2 hours because of my Jumbo prostate) the worst part was the catheter, 4 solid days of a 3/8inch rigid tube inserted (feels as rigid as a piece of PEX pipe used by plumbers) It's only been a couple of days since surgery and although bloody pee seems to be O.K. I would truly recommend this type of surgery, as I suffered needlessly for 8 years, most times getting up 6-7 times a night.

In my case doctors in australia said it takes 4 to 6 weeks to heal, since I had heart attacck and was on blood thinners so it is taking more time to tò be normal taking it day by day, worried lost weight sagy skin but atleast I dont have to take flomextra for the time being waiting to see urologist.

I'm 71 and had GL surgery 1 month ago. Everything has been fine except incontinence. Small amount of bleeding that lasted about 7-10 days; some swelling in my penis and soreness and a small amount of incontinence. All has resolved itself except the incontinence. It has increased from a small amount of leaking to leaking whenever I walk or stand. I've refrained from lifting and focused entirely on just walking, but had to stop and obtain Depends Pads for Men. So far they have worked, but the incontinence does not seem to be lessening. The only way I've lessened it is to almost dehydrate myself by limiting my liquid intake to about 16 ounces a day. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it is considerably less that what I used to drink. I've always had a couple cups of coffee each morning, following by approximately 32 ounces the remainder of the day. Can't do that any longer. I have discovered that sitting and reclining stops the leaking, but it restarts as soon as I stand for more than a couple of minutes and almost immediately if I walk. Emailed my doctor and he said it will improve. Have a followup appointment in a couple of weeks and will see what he has to say. Very disappointed with incontinence which was indicated pre-surgery as risk, but as a really low risk possibility

I’m 65, had the green light laser surgery 9 days ago , and all is well. Recovery depends considerably on each individuals health. I still have a fast metabolism and heal quickly. The catheter came out the day after, I’ve had minimal bleeding, and slight discomfort at the tip after urinating. I plan on doing a little bit of construction and wait until my follow up doctors appointment before any real heavy lifting. If your father is in good health generally, the green light method will most likely resolve his issues.
God bless you for watching over him.

Thank you for this post. I am 48 years old and an ICU nurse and am scheduled to have this surgery in 06/2019. My prostate is large at 100gm and I have explored all options for my BPH. Any surgery on the prostate is never 100% and without complications. I too am active between swimming, running, and yoga and have a job where I can easily put in 5 miles a day. I am completely obstructed and have been catherterizing myself 3-4 times a day. So hopefully, I have minimal post op symptoms and and uneventful recovery.

The Doctor told me sometime you can get a clot and you will have to come back and they will have to put a catheter in

I've had it done twice about 8 years apart. The best thing I ever did. Was getting up 3 to 4 times a night before but after still getting up 1 or 2 times. Where I noticed the most improvement was during the day where I could wait 4 to 6 hours between peeing. So long car rides, movies, concerts etc etc were no longer a thing to fear. I think BPH sufferers even though able to get relief will never be like they were when in their 20s. But you are right, no way is your dad getting any sleep getting up 6-7 times a night so I would go for it and talk to the urologist about the options

I have had GL twice now. First one 8 years ago then another 7 years ago. No backward ejaculation the first time but the second time there is, not the end of the world, sex is still fun. No incontinence either time. I would recommend the procedure to anyone as it was one of the best decisions I made, just make sure the urologist you go to has a lot of experience cuz I had heard a few horror stories. I still get up 1 to 2 times a night but my stream is strong. I would probably be up only once a night if I didn't like my nightly glass of wine. During the day I can hold off going up to 6 hours at times if I am active. The catheter after the procedure is not that fun but it is crucial to leave it in for the 3 or 4 days recommended as it will help stop the bleeding and potential for clots, drink lots of water. I think once you have had bad BPH you will never get back to what you were in your 20s but the GL will greatly improve your quality of life.
