Hi, I've had this on and off for about 4 years, but only in the last 3 weeks has it become constant and seems to be worse in the evenings. I've had MRI and CT scans which have found nothing, but like you can stop the noise by pressure over the right artery. I've been to see 3 ENT specialists - all have given me different diagnoses. The first said he was not a vein specialist, but he'd shown the MRI to one who said all was fine. The second who did a CT scan spotted a high jugular bulb and said this was the cause. But he also said I was probably born with this so there was no explanation as to why I was hearing this now. The third said 'maybe there is a blockage in a tiny artery, but it's definitely not a jugular vein problem. Veins are soft and whooshy, the hard heartbeat noise you hear is an artery'. He gave me no indication of what the blockage could be or no recommendations for de-blocking. I've since found it could be cholesterol (an obvious one) or calcium deposits from lack of vitamins - K2 comes up in many articles. However it was my cranial osteopath who whilst not helping with the treatment he gave me, suggested a link between my wisdom teeth being taken out 4 years ago and the onset of this sound. I am currently researching this and will be seeing both my dentist and my GP again to present him with my theories. No-one is going to help unless you help yourself I've found so far!!! As an aside, I've been taking sleeping pills as the noise is so bad at night times, but I've found that over-the-counter water tablets seem to reduce the pressure in my arteries, and therefore quietening the noise at night. I have read that water pills reduce blood pressure, so I'm not recommending this at all, I'm just saying for the time being, it's helping to stop my noise.
I have exactly the same problem. The wisdom tooth diagnosis sounds interesting but I see no cure. I use soft earplugs at nite and it really helps. They are cheap and really work. Sometimes, like the last week, I have not had to use them. I believe it has to do with the atmospheric pressure and weather conditions.
Hi there, unfortunately for me, earplugs just accentuate the noise. I'm determined to see a vascular surgeon, despite the one I was referred to refusing to see me as he thought it was an ENT issue!! I won't stop til I find out what's going on!

Have the same problem with my right ear. I read all the threads and evidently there is no cure (???) :( - Surely something will help me? My nights are uncomfortable and much of the time during the day I hear this pulse...July 1, 2007
I was diagnosed with Tinninus in my left ear about 5 months ago, which started as ringing and a fullness feeling in the ear. The pulsing came later and it is much harder to ignore. I have noticed that sweating during yard work or whatever stops the pulsing and reduces the ring for most of the day. I still have the pulsing during the night as I sleep, but stops after I get out of bed. Sometimes I take a Lunesta to help me sleep, but I rather not. I had a perfusion performed at Shea's Clinic a couple of weeks ago, but so far it has only helped the fullness. They say it can take up to 3 months before the final results are seen. As of now, I'm not very hopefully. The pulsing seems to be worst since the perfusion. I may try sleeping in a more upright position to see if that helps. I really lost a lot of confidence in the medical profession trying to get answers. Hang it there and don't let this ruin your life.
I've had the heart beating loudly in my right ear now for about 7 months. My husband passed away in Jan, so don't know if it's tress or not. Went to an ENT, they cleaned the ear out, but it did nothing to help. It is so loud it drives me nuts sometimes. I have no insurance so I don't know what to do next. Sounds like none of you have found any relief. I am almost 63 and never had this problem before.

I m 70 y.o. and have this pulsing problem for a few years. The only thing I can do to sleep is to take one puff of "pot" and the sound goes away and I can sleep. I feel sort of like I disobeying the law but if this is the only solution I can find (doctors can't find anything) . . then I am going to use it.
I have the pusling in my ear right when I wake up in the morning, and all around my ears is sensitive to touch, if I do, its too loud. Then throughout the day it makes me dizzy all day long and its combined with a bit of a headache which also makes me feel light headed. But its all happening on the left side of my head. The pain goes from my jaw all around my ear, then to the base of my skull and onto my neck, al on the left side. If I press really hard right under my ear and by my jaw bone, the puslisng loud noise comes back. Its almost like the pain you get when your lymph nodes are swollen, but all in the areas I said, and my lymph nodes arent swollen....I waited 6 hours in emerg the other night, got a CT scan and blood work and all is fine, blood pressure fine, no fever...so he diagnosed me with cluster headaches...when I asked what I do, he literally said go home and look at home...I waited 6 hours to hear that...I looked it up...they aint no cluster headaches! Ive also been treated for vertigo...Ive had my ears flushed...Im happy Im not the only one out there....all docs should read these, get togehter, and figure something out! Its been 2 months, IM SICK OF IT. Arg.
PLEASE DO CONTACT ON MY E-MAIL AS WELL WISHER, WHAT TO DO?
THANKS
Hello . . I had the heart beat pulsing in my left ear for over a year. I never went to the doctor because I knew he couldn't figure it out because he hadn't figured out too much previously. However, I was watching a doctor tv show and he was talking about magnesium deficiency and being tired. I tried what he said and ate a lot of magnesium rich food. I took magnesium supplement four times a day. The pulsing went away within a week. It is amazing. . . now I can sleep. Try it . . it's cheap and may work for someone else.
I have had every test like everyone else on this panel. The only thing that helps is a soft ear plug at night when going to sleep. I get them at Walmart and after 10 years of this, believe me when I say that it works for me. I am going to try the Magnesium supplements and see what they do.
Ck to see if oyu rhave an infection, My ENT did and gave me Anitbotics for 2 wks and cleared up the Ear and Pulsing went away as well.. The other ear, having Tinnititus? Not so much Luck.. Still buzzes and rings.. Gets worse in the late afternoons and evenings... Difficult to concentrate on watching Tv.. and Quite Anoying to say the least..Quote:
Put your quote text here...And try Popping your Ears 3-4x a day..
My daugher is 20 and she has had the whooshig and pulsing sound in her left hear for about 7 years. Had an MRI when she was 15 but they did not find anything and 1st ENT dr pretty much said she was crazy. was not happy about that at all. Went to see a new ENT dr and he also said there is an artery that runs very close to the eardrum. In some people the artery is closer than it normally is and that is why she hears her own pulse or whooshing sound. Unfortunately you can't move your artery so she just has to deal with it. I may have her try the magnesium too just to see if it helps any.
