Hello! I need advice, because something strange is happening to me. For the past two months I am smelling smoke all the time. I keep on asking people around me if they smell it too, but the answer is no. I smell it everywhere/ in gym, in office, at home… Does anyone have any advice what this might be?

I've wondered if this isn't a sinus issue as my grandfather had major sinus problems. I plan on talking to my ENT doc this week about that. I did have a sinus infection last summer but another round of antibiotics has not helped . Nothing abnormal has shown up in any brain tests.
I started Bupropion (Anti-depressant) almost 4 weeks ago. The last 2 weeks I have had the smoke smell pretty bad where it affects me talking and seem to limit my breathing. I'm a non smoker, had nasal surgery last year. I've read reports the med may cause it. I'm also going to bring this up to my doctor next week.
I have had this for the last 2 days. I picked up a virus that had me bedridden for 36 hours with aching all over and a fever that kept coming and going. I have also had head pain behind my left eye (like someone is trying to suck my eye out) and this smell of cigarette smoke that is burning my nose so much. I usually have a good sense of smell but my partner said he smelt cat wee (we have 2) and I cannot smell a thing, even cleaning out their litter box and nadda. However I can taste when I eat (just)
It is call phantosmia, you would want to look for it. Smelling something that's not there – can be triggered by temporal lobe seizures, epilepsy, or head trauma. Phantosmia is also associated with Alzheimer's and occasionally with the onset of a migraine. Common olfactory hallucinations include lots of icky odors.
I've had this happening to me for the past week. I got the flu nearly 2 weeks ago. After I got over the bad part and was on the mend, I thought somehow the neighbors going outside to smoke was affecting me... that the smoke was getting in. I think realized that if I step outside and "clear my nose" then step back inside, the smell is gone briefly and then begins to come back. Sometimes I barely notice it and other times it's so strong I forget for a moment that it's not really there. I only smell it IN the home, nowhere outside. And since I can clear my nose outside and come back in and not smell anything for a few minutes, it leads me to believe something is going on in my sinuses connected to the flu. 2 weeks later I still have some coughing, stuffiness and am tired. I will be interested to see if the smell goes away when I am completely healed.
I know this post is old, but in case you happen to check back...I've been suffering from the same "smelling smoke" as y'all have. Mostly in my office at work. It struck me as I read the above post re: coffee. My office is one floor directly above a Starbucks! To be fair, and before any "Aha!" moments, I've been in the same office for 15 years and the Starbucks has been there for about the past 6 years and I've only recently experienced the smoke smell thing. I guess they could have begun doing things differently lately??? I doubt that though..??
My VW Jetta emits a smell that reminds me of heated up crayons! Not all the time, but more than once a day. I do have the smoky smell issue though, in my office at work.
For 3 weeks I've been smelling smoke, but only at home. When I go out of the house I don't smell it. Please share your journey as you continue.
I had this happen recently where I was constantly smelling smoke. One of coworkers mentioned using a sinus rinse and I did and the smell went away instantly. You might have some residual smoke or particulates in your sinus cavities. Try that first and see if it goes away.
I’ve been experiencing this for a very long time and I think your on the right tract about serotonin, mine seems to get worse when I’m stressed or trying to make a big decision. I too take an anti depressant and have angsity. I’m relieved to know that I’m not alone and believe I know understand more
I had a very bad sinus infection and once I was well, I began smelling smoke. I went to an ENT and he put a tube down my throat and checked everything. I was fine. Then he sent me for a brain MRI and that was also fine. Its been a few years since this happened so my thought is that its going to happen occasionally. I still smell it once in a while, especially when I am not feeling well. Its more annoying than anything.
Thank you! I am definitely trying the Sulphur.
I have a sinus infection and i went to the casino. Very smokey. I’m hoping these antibiotics work and the smelling of smoke leaves me. I’ll let you know. ;)
