The pain that the men get is from the strings from the iud. Wifes or girlfriends can have the doctor cut them shorter and it shouldnt bother you then.
Okay ladies not sure how I can help but I have had the iud going on 4 years now. Got it put in a few months after my son was born! I have had many problems with major cramping and some cyst problem but I have forgotten the name anyway I have had my share of pain and crazy wacky periods! When I got the iud it was all great for a while till pain during sex happened and even if I went to exercise at the gym! I could even sit up with out a sharp pain to my stomach at one point! Went to the hospital and had apt and ultra sounds for a min they couldn't even find it! Than later results showed it had moved places further up in my uterus! The doc told me that it can and will happen! When ur over active! And when you have sex Thats one way of knocking it out of place! For the guys you just get poked. That's the risk you take when u stick it in to unknown area especially at a piece of plastic that can and defiantly poke the c**p out of your penis! Now ladies um I still have it and yeah the pain hurts occasionally but it does go away now if it don't after a few days go SEE A DOCTOR could have pushed it where it don't belong! Ut tissue in ur uterus can rip easily so don't think if you have sex that there is not a chance of it poking places and tearing or bruising cause it can and has happened to me! Nothing that the body won't heal it self. If a doc tells you something other than what you have researched doesn't mean they are right people can be wrong! Go see some one else get another opinion!!!!! Hope this post is helpful to someone!
wow...it's not just the tip that hurts..the whole head is painful...i noticed having pain after the first 3 days of sex. at first it was not as noticeable but after having sex 2-4 times a day for a week, i had to stop. i bled from it. it was that bad. now i've only been having sex 2 or 3 times a week and it's STILL painful, and it just gets worse every time, even after no sex for a week. i don't know how this thing is still on the market when it's that painful to have sex with.... :-/
Hi everyone,
I don't get why some people are recommending removal of the mirena coil straight away! Ok, it may not have worked well with your body, but that's the same for all manner of contraception, some agree better than others; hence lots of people spend years finding the method that's best for them. I got the coil inserted yesterday, after a trainee took 2 attempts and finally the doctor took over. I have had sever cramping, but i've experienced this using some varieties of the combined pill.
As for the threads, I read on a different site that you can tuck them back yourself, instead or waiting for them to settle on their own. Is this possible without dislodging the coil? My threads sound like they're a good length not too short and not 'hanging out'.
Any help would be great.

Hello everyone,
I got the Mirana IUD about 3 months after my second child. I was on DepoVera and the two birth controls actually overlapped. The doctor I visited was awesome and reassured of the effectiveness of the IUD because she too had one. Throughout the consultation and immediately following the procedure, the doctor kept insisting I do not tell my husband the details. She advised me most men are afraid when the procedure is explained to them. Of course, I paid it no mind and was excited to share all the details with him. During sex, my hubby moved a certain way then screamed out an awful scream and needless to say the session was over. He explained something was poking him. I had no pain and still have none to this day. I went back to the doc after several complaints from my husband and she cut the string (fish wire) down as far as it could go. After that, my hubby still complained about it and our sex life dwindled a bit. I called the doc and she told me to tell him I went back to the doc to have it cut back some more just to see if it was psychological. I did, and it worked! I believe he felt something at first however he was scared from then on. I have had the Mirana for 2 yrs. It took an entire year for my period to stop completely then it started back 6 months later. But it is very light. I like the Mirana a lot and recommend it to anyone.

I've has the mirena a few months I'm 19 and have never been pregnant. For the first 2months I bled non stop, then one day poof it was gone. I have had alot of painful sex, I've only ever been with one guy, an the sex never hurt before but it gets so bad I cry sometimes. If I. Give it a bit of time inbeteeen the sex its starting to feel ok but it needs to be kept short like 10min or the pleasure turns into tears. I ble today after sex, it wasn't rough or long just simple and to the point (more oral than anything) but it shocked me! I think it has stopped but I'm not having much pain, I'm feeling a little raw though. Oh and my bf felt the string the first week and never felt it again.
With the mirena I've been getting alot of infections, like this yeast infection that will come and go as it pleases! Never had this issue before!
Does it get better?? Someone say yes I forked out a pretty penny so I wouldn't have to Take a pill

I have had a vaginal delivery and still experience a lot of pain and bleeding some during and always after sex. I don't think this is unique to those who haven't vaginally delivered.
Hi,
Thanks guys, that really reassured me. I think I must be one of the very few who hasn't had painful sex or a partner ever complaining about the strings, and he knew exactly what went on, as he came with me. I'm due in for my 6 week check up on wednesday, so hopefully everything will be fine. :-)

I have an iud and when I have sex it hurts sometimes it even feels literaly like it's scrapping the walls. I even bleed after sex if its to rough. I dont think there is anything the dr can do anything about the pain without taking it out. I hope they come up with a good idea.
I have had my IUD for 3 years now and never had any complaints from my boyfriend that he feels a poke or any other discomfort during sex UNLESS we have rough sex. I think that the positions and roughness of the sex definetly plays a huge part in whether it's felt and a painful experience.
For those who have not been warned before getting the IUD inserted, then you should really do your research a little better be sure the device is for you.
My only side effects were heavy bleeding on the first 2 periods after insertion, ovarian pain before my period, and occassional yeast infections from the device. I have been told that the yeast infections may go on for some time, because it's an object your body is not use to.
Hope this helps. Good luck all!

Yup. Girlfriend just got hers in. Painful indeed. We don't know what we're going to do about it yet...
Only thing I know so far is that missionary is the worst position (most painful). Also, not to brag or be dishonest (really, what the hell is the point!?) but I'm noticeably larger than average, and I don't think many people take that into account when considering them... if you're above average fellas, it's going to poke you, and it won't feel good!
Also, doggy is the least painful position, in my opinion.

I have had my Minera for 10 months now and had no discomfort with my previous boyfriend who was average sized. My current boyfriend is longer and I have pain when he goes deep. I would think this was just because of his size, but I had boyfriend in the past who was even larger when I didn't have the Minera and I didn't have pain or bleeding after sex. The most disturbing part for me is that I bleed for a while (anywhere from an hour to a few days) after we have sex. There have been a few times that the condom we use (new relationship - safe sex) has come out coated in blood. I am considering getting my Minera removed because of this.
I have been using an IUD for 3 years now and while I have noticed a bit more pain occasionally during sex, last night the pain afterwards was unbearable! For hours I was scared to move due to the stabbing pain in my uterus area, worried that the IUD was somehow tearing into me. This is the first time anything like that has happened. I have also had MUCH heavier and more painful periods since having the IUD. My boyfriend does not complain about the IUD during sex - the strings are pretty long and wrap around inside so his head doesn't push up against anything spiky coming from my uterus.
Hello,
My wife has had Mirena in for almost 2 years now. I have to say that this Mirena thing is about the most uncomfortable feeling thing i've ever felt in my life. I do happen to be well endowed, so when she got the IUD I expressed to her that I could actually feel something that felt as though it were poking threw the opening of my penis, which was pretty painful. At 1st it didn't irritate me for long periods of time. But as of lately I've notice that the irritation last a couple of days at a time. I've researched other things on what could be causing it, and the only thing that resemble the irritation would be chlamydia, but I don't have an S.T.D's because I had test done, and there were no other signs of any S.T.D's just the irritating Itchy feeling it seemed to cause after sexual intercourse. I don't really know at this point what else we should try being as she's already had the strings cut back as far as they would allow them to be cut. My question is this, can these strings cause any long term damage to me, because at this point in time it's becoming quite and issue. Don't really know what else we should try so could you please let me know where to go from here. Thanks.

Hello i'm a male, my wife had the IUD put in after the breif wait, after the delivery of our daughter. I felt it shortly after I got the green light to go on in. But the pain was crazy. She went back to the doctor a couple of days later. The doctor talked my wife down, telling her it's proably just mental. The IUD can't be sticking him. A week later we went to the doctor, and I explained to him my pain's myself. He agreed to trim the string. Long be hold here we are 6 months, down the line. Sex has decrease dramactily, and im still having the pains. I think a choice has to be made. I-U-D, or L-A-R-G-E. >:( Comments Please.
