you describe what happened to me several days ago, except i was able to stretch it out over a period of very long minutes because it is so painful, sudden, and unexpected. I hadn't had one in years. I associate its occurrence with cold weather, and stress. I was late for work and leapt out of bed, almost! I have hypothyroidism and am researching a possible connection to this tendency to spasm.

hi all

i was getting these "leg cramps" 2 times a week! THEY ARE NOT A CRAMP!! ITS MORE THAN A CRAMP!!

I HAD ENOUGH AND WENT TO A VITAMIN STORE. THEY GAVE ME MAGNESEUM PILLS.

I HAVE NOT HAD A "LEG CRAMP" FOR 3 MONTHS NOW! THANK GOD!!!!!

I WOULD PASS OUT AND WAKE UP WITH MY WIFE HOLDING ICE PACKS ON MY LEGS

DR'S SAID I HAD RLS AND GAVE ME PILLS THAT WOULD MAKE ME FEEL DOPY. I DID NOT LIKE THAT. SO I QUIT TAKING THEM. THE CRAMPS GOT REAL BAD SO THATS WHEN I STARTED TAKING THE MAGNESEUM TWICE A DAY WITH MEALS. NOW I TAKE IT ONCE A DAY IN THE MORNING. GOOD LUCK ALL.

THANKS

STEVE

I also get these cramps, usually the morning after a round of golf. It is off the scale pain in the inner thigh I can't straighten or bend the leg no matter what the pain gets worst.

To stop them I have found few minutes on a stationary bike before bed also Valerian taken before bed. seems to help

If I forget to do these  and get a cramp the only thing that helps is a heating pad (I keep one by the bed) and a pill called "Leg Cramps"

Hope this helps.

I feel for you as I get the same cramps. I've been told by a vascular surgeon that it's vein related. I have not been to this surgeon because at the time, it wasn't necessary for me. Now I wish I had talked to him more about it and how to treat it. I'm sure it would take some sort of vein re-assignment surgery. It's your veins not flowing the blood well.

Thankyou for this information as I also had a gastric bypass and suffer malabsorption. I suffer these horrific inner thigh cramps which reduce me to tears even though I am tolerant of pain generally. I will seek advice regarding deficiencies now from my GP.

I had my first experience with this October of 2013. It brought me to the floor in seconds. I honestly thought the muscle in my thigh exploded. I still get them. It switches back and forth between thighs. One time it happened in both at the same time. That was fun! Now, when I feel it happening, I only have a few seconds to get on my feet and stand as tall as possible. If I give into the urge to bend, it seems to get worse. Also I manage to hobble into a hot shower, clothes and all. The hot water relaxes my body and I seem to recover from the spasam more quickly. I have a constant tingle in my thigh where the pain usually begins. My thigh is tender to the touch for a few days after too. I read the suggestions some of you have posted and will try them. Best of luck to all.

Teree, I get these spasms also. Excrutiating is right!!! One thing that I have found to help me is using a sock with three tennis balls in it. Tie the end of the sock and when you feel them start to come place the tennis balls under your back just to the right or left of the mid spine. Move them around until you find some relief. This often helps me. Then I can move my leg out to the side, from a lying position and usually that relieves them. At least for me. I hope this helps.

I also get these nasty cramps in my legs after a long day of riding. Here is a solution I was given by an old biker. Before you go to bed drink a bottle of Nestles water or Smart water, they contain trace calcium and (i know this sounds strange) but it helps a 2 ounce shot of Dill Pickle Juice. If you don't and want to wait for a cramp to occur ,hobble to the kitchen and get a shot of pickle juice. This seems to relax the cramping within 30 to 45 seconds and you can go back to sleep.
