I have an the same lump in my ear for 2 years and sometimes it hurt other times it didn't. As of recent it grew to be quite large tender and it hurt very much.

I went to a simple walk-in clinic and the doctor froze my ear, cut it open and drained it. A lot of puss blood and a cyst came out of my ear. He left it open to drain and said it will slowly heal from the inside out.

It's not that we're trying to scare people that it 'could be a tumor'

Even though I've never heard of someone getting "Ear Lobe Cancer" before, but IF it were, the ear lobe is pretty darn close to the lymph nodes, and that's pretty scary if it were malignant.

I have had a cyst now for a few months. At first my doctor gave me
atibiotics and the sweeling eventually went down only to return.

Tha pain was intense and I must have scratched it or sumthing, as it burst
and brown fluid came out. Then this was proceded by lots of blood.

Since that time, it has shrunk and swelled up repeatedly only to burst
again and again. This is starting to become tiresome and disturbing
at the same time. Is this something I am going to have to live with for
the rest of my life, or is there something that can be done for this?

I really am hesitant to continue using antibiotics all the time for this.
After all the reports of over using these, I wonder if I can find an
alternative therapy or maybe this is something more serious?

Here's food for thought:

as a biological living thing, our bodies are designed in such a way that our immune system will fight against any foriegn and strange objects that are placed - or punctured - in our body.

Now, onto the lumps. ;-)

Purple/blue/black lumps are usually a sign of poor blood flow/infection, and should be checked out ASAP; poor blood flow in any body part is dangerous, and could lead to more serious complications (You laugh now, but in three months when you don't have an earlobe, try it then!).

Cysts are one of the three most common things in the 'Lump Ranking' charts. They're painful, annoying, and above all, just down right unpredictable. They can appear anywhere, anytime, and feel like fatty lumps under the skin. They can also be mistaken for other, more serious signs - like breast cancer - but you can start to tell the difference if you've had as many as I've had. (I have a total of 22 piercings in my ears, and cysts are almost like family to me now...)

The only thing is, however, is that if you want it gone, you're either going to have to get it yourself, or let a professional take care of it.

Believe it or not, pimples can also form in the earlobe. These are easy to get rid of - just with good hygine - but refrain from squeezing and or lancing them. Results can turn rear-up; infections, scabs, scars and nerve damage are possibilities.

Finally, the lumps that are actually scars. These are terrific little sodding things. They appear after ear piercing if you:

- Have done a piercing yourself, but have done a shoddy job
- Have had the tops and or stiffer parts of your ears pierced
- Gotten a bacterial infection while the new piercing was still healing
- Or have sensitive skin.

They're most common on the tops of your ears, and take a few months/years to heal. If you have any concerns though, see a DOCTOR (I cannot stress this enough.)

:-P Happy Lump Hunting, guys

P.S

Now you know why mother always told you to wash behind your ears.

wow this is really common i see.

i started getting them a year a go. i lanced mine myself, once it got really big and i was like WTF? man what a mess. lol it seemed like i sprung a leak in my head. lol always the right earlobe too.
i see here that the right earlobe is common as well. hmmmm... i really am curious about this phenomenon.

i wonder how much diet has to do with it?

I see that most of this is fairly common, but I'm still concerned. I've noticed a small bump in my left ear for months. There is a tiny little one in my right ear, but is not causing pain, even when squeezed. The left one gets larger, and then smaller over a period of days or weeks. There is (similarly to a guest to said this on one of the previous pages) a harder bump on the bottom of my left earlobe that is a bit painful to touch or apply pressure to. I'm going to the doctor about it in the next few days and I will be sure to come back and let you all know what I found out. I've heard (from this site's posts) that it's pretty common, and when it has to be removed, it takes about 15 or 20 minutes. I'll let you know what I find out...

that sounds like a keloid scar. there isn't much you can do to get rid of one, but there are some treatments to reduce size. you can try soaking your earlobe in a gentle saline solution, that may reduce the size and is one of the cheaper options. try not to use too much soap, as it's too harsh and will encourage the growth of scar tissue. i had one on my eyebrow after i got it pierced, but when i took out the barbel and let the hole close up, it went down to regular scar tissue.

as far as earlobe cysts, i get them often. for the most part i try to leave them alone for as long as possible, and at some point they usually come close enough to the skin that i can squeeze them empty. they've always healed up fine after that. i don't recommend trying to puncture one or squeeze something that isn't ready to be squeezed. too much trying can cause scarring, infection and tons of other fun problems. if it gets to the point that it's distracting you, just go see a doctor.

Has anyone experienced the bottom of their earlobe turning purple? i usually wear earrings all the time for like 16 years...and suddenly i put in these new earrings and took them off after one day. the next morning i found a little lump next to my pierce ...so i though it was just a pimple. i was squeezing it all day between my thumb and my pointer finger.. by 7pm-esh ... i looked in the mirror and found that the bottom of my lobe was PURPLE and was not even near the pimple (or lump) i previously noticed before (which does infact have a small amount of puss). I AM STILL IN PAIN ..today is the second day. i found dark dots and one tiny white dot inside the purply-brown looking bruise. I don't know what to do..or what it is..but its hot..and when i put ice..i can't feel the coldness..i feel nothing but pain...

PLEASE HELP! :-(

hi, i noticed a small lump in my right ear lobe underneath the skin a while ago, i figured it was just a spot so i left it a while thinking it would come up and i could squeeze it...but just now i was feeling it and thought i could squeeze it so i did, it...i dunno...i seems like it popped but it felt like a kinda deflating feeling...nothing came out, the skin was not broken but the lump has gone down in size, not competely but it has gone down and im confused 'coz whatever was there before isn't there now?

ps

it didnt hurt or anything, only hurt the 1st few days it appeared then i didnt really notice it was there unless i touched my ear and felt the lump. didnt hurt when i squeezed it either, except the usual pinching feeling, just felt this deflating feeling.

i squeezed the lump on my earlobe tonite, i have been wearing the same earings for over a decade without ever taking them off, and when i squeezed a lot of puss came out. and when i squeezed harder i hit the jackpot!!! a small brown thing squeezed out, a hard brown shell around what looks like puss. but damn! the thing looks like a bug or something. or a seed. what the f is this???

saw the doc today... turns out it was a crusted shell surrounding puss, got that way from exposure to air, might've been in there a while too.

but it was hellacool to squeeze that b****r out! it was the size of a hemp seed, looked an awful lot like a hemp seed actually, except with oodles of puss squeezin' outta it. yum!

I also have had an ear-lobe cyst develop over the past year or two. I shrugged it off until a few weeks ago, when it began to really hurt. At that point, I became more concerned and made an appointment with my Dermatologist.

I expected that the cyst would have to be "cut out," but instead was given a shot through a VERY fine-gage needle.

A few hours later, the cyst began dissipating. A waxy-feeling discharge seeped back out of the tiny hole that had been made by the needle.

As I was impatient to have that "thing" gone, I squeezed gently to see it that would speed things up... and it did.

The lump that had been there for so long is now almost completely gone... and it has been only 7 hours since I got the shot...

There WAS a "twinge" while getting the shot, but far less painful than when I got an ear-piercing in London 15 years ago... and with almost no after-the-fact sensitivity.

I have no idea whether or not you have the same sort of issue that caused me to go to a doctor... so I would suggest having a professional take a look... but in case you are afraid of "going under the knife," I can say that from at least my own experience, such was not required.

Wishing you all the best...
