Me too have this problem. I had experience this unconfort condition may times in my life. It seems like a normal hardening inside the lube, and you will feel the heat coming out from the lube. You will feel some pain if you press it.

This is what I will do if I facing this problem, is pretty easy.
JUST DONT BOTHER IT!

Give it few days time, the pain and hardening will just go off....

But if the problem did not cure for weeks for months.PLEASE SEEK DOCTOR ADVICE!!

Live healthy and HAPPY always...

I also have this ear cyst thing. I have had it for about 2 and a half years now. I have made multiple attempts to pop it. All failed. I just tried using a safety pin today sterilized with peroxide, failed again, lots of blood though.

I have an appointment in a couple weeks to see my regular doctor then I can get a referral to see the dermatologist and get the thing removed. I was told early on that it was probably a cyst and that it would go away on its own, well 2 years later I am sick of this thing. I constantly find myself trying to pop it, it is such an annoyance throughout my day. The people I work with must wonder why I am constantly touching my ear.

Oh well, hopefully all goes well in a couple weeks when I see the doctor. I hope mine is a little ball that I get to see and tons of puss too, after over 2 years with this thing, the removal had better be pretty spectacular.

These lumps are painful, yet oddly satisfying. I have had very large ones (about the size of a grape when fully inflammed). However a particularly large lump has breen slowly growing behind my left ear.

I of course went to squeeze it, pins, tweezers (for pressure), peroxide and the like.

There was of course fluid, but nothing of the substantial "Core" fluid. After all my efforts, i still could not get it. Relunctantly, i opted to go to the Doctor. After examination, she concluded it was "Cauliflower Ear". However when home i did some reseaerch and the lump behind my ear was no where close to what pictures and Illustration of Cauliflower Ear. She was wrong. What i have, is definitely Not this affliction that is on the outside of the ear.

I went to a dermatologist and they said I had a hypertrophic scar. I used to have piercings in that part of my ear, but had them removed years before this happened. She said it could have happened when a small bump or irritation may have been present and I irritated it more (I play with my ears a lot). That the scar was a result of trauma to the area. My total visit only cost me $50 and she injected steroids into the scar to help flatten it. She said the steroids will work for 4 weeks. Then after that, I can continue to go back until it's completely flat or until I'm happy with the appearance. I don't have insurance and was worried about the cost. I was relieved when the total was so little.

I have just got back from the hospital after having a lump removed from my ear lobe and it is very common,

I had it for about 2 years and never bothered me but over the past week it has become red and inflamed (infected) and has made me quite ill, fever, sickness, dizzyness so I went to the doctors after he prodded and pulled it a bit he told me to go to casualty, (he made it worst squeezing it,

By the time the ENT surgon got their it was the size of a golf ball and was spreading down my neck, It only took about 10 mins under local anastetic and he got rid of it,

He numbed the area and put a slit down the back of my ear it wasnt painful but the feeling of all that puss squirting out was horrible, its been packed with gauze and if got to go back next week to have it sticked up.

Anyway most forums will have you thinking the worse, but its more likely to be a simple abcess and unlike and abcess anywhere elese it has no where to drain to so it just gets bigger and bigger and if left long enough will become sore, infected and make you ill.

You can get them by wearing cheap earings.

Those things hurt and are very annoying!! As an initial reaction to a huge lump "growing" on the back of your ear lobe we go for needles and start poking pricking and squeezing o.O but DONT it only makes things worse!! One great solution is a product called PRID its a drawing agency and it really works!! It can be found at most wal marts close to the pharmacy. (Its in a small bright orange box) the product is in a small orange tin container.
ITS VERY MESSY THOUGH!!
make sure to have gauze and be over generous with the amount applied! YES use a large glob!! twice daily for 2-3 days.
Be sure to use the gauze because it will draw the puss out and rupture . I know it sounds horrible but I've experienced the "growing" lump on the back of my lower ear lobe and its a painful experience! Its actually a small cist that if gets poked and squeezed will become infected due to rupturing inside because of the pressure from squeezing and poking the ear becomes an enlarged inflammed throbing problem :$ that noone wants to incounter! BUT for those few that experience this here is a great solution!!

I've never worn earrings, now do I have my ears pierced, but I still get them.
As someone mentioned earlier, a great way to reduce swelling is to hold a hot cloth or compress against the area. If you use a cloth, once the cloth starts getting cool, hold it under the hot water for a little bit and then put back on the area. Do this a few times a day. This will help reduce swelling, and in fact make it less painful. I highly recommend doing this.
Tea tree oil and benzoyl peroxide seem to help speed things up too.
I also don't think picking and squeezing is a good idea! I used to do it, and it always made things worse for me.
Good luck!

I've had my ears pierced about three months ago and was doing fine cleaning them, two months in I guess I switched the studs out too soon and the next day they were infected (typical, I tell you, haha) but I got a small bump beside the piercing on the back of the earlobe that made the piercing sore and bleed whenever I cleaned them. I had to do extensive cleaning more often (like salt and an occasional neosporin) and after three weeks they finally went away and my ears look normal now.

I had tried to pop them but gave up a lot because it was hard to twist my arms around and look in the mirror at the same time %-)

whoa! I just got done popping mine and thought it was time to look into it.

So what is the general concensus?

I have had mine for years. always get a lump on the top of my one ear and sometimes in the ear lobe. Since I have been getting them for years, and just drained them and hoped for the best, I figured they were harmless but to be honest they do scare me a little. Mine pack an awful lot of puss and the puss smells horrible.

So what is the general concensus? are they just bothersome cysts?

Thought I would answer my own question. Im the above poster again, and after looking into it a little I came to the conclusion mine are Sebaceous cysts. FYI

A sebaceous cyst is a closed sac under the skin filled with a cheese-like or oily material.

The main symptom is usually a small, non-painful lump beneath the skin. However, if it becomes infected, you may have redness, tenderness, or increased temperature of the skin over the area.

Grayish-white, cheesy, foul-smelling material may drain from the cyst.

Sebaceous cysts are not dangerous and can usually be ignored. Placing a warm moist cloth (compress) over the area may help the cyst drain and heal.

If you have a small inflamed cyst, your doctor may inject it with a steroid medicine that reduces swelling.

If the cyst becomes swollen, tender, or large, your doctor may surgically remove it. This procedure is done in the doctor's office. When to contact a doctor
Call your health care provider if you notice any new growths on your body. Although cysts are not dangerous, your doctor should examine you for signs of skin cancer.
