I have had these hard bumps in my right lobe for most of my life. I don't know what it is but I ignore it and it goes away. It happens maybe a few times a year and then disappears. It's annoying but, for met at least, doesn't worry me. I'm not recommending that others ignore it though. If you are concerned, definitely see a doctor and have it checked out.
It's very very unlikely it's a tumor. It is either a cyst or an infected gland. I've had two which I treated at home with a sterile needle, some hydrogen peroxide, and some pressure. Currently I have a third one which I attempted to treat but kept missing it. Now it looks like I have a whole bunch of ear piercings. All well.
If you have a low pain tolerance, or are squeemish around needles go to the doctor and get it taken care of. Otherwise it might be easier to fix yourself.
This is one of the only times I'm going to say you don't have to go to the doctor because people pierce their ears all the time, professional piercers do not have a PhD and are still able to do their job. As long as you use some common sense and clear the wound regularly (like you would a new ear piercing) you'll be fine. Promise.

I had a sis in my ear, so I used a hot washcloth and a pin to pop it, the next morning the tip of my earlobe is all purple and the area that was popped is sore, but the purple spot is not. Its really starting to hurt, but not the purple spqot, did I puncture a vessel or something?
I have it too. (Welcome to the club...lol) It developed in the past 10 days. I'll be seeing an ENT doc tomorrow.
i had the exact same thing and was there for months finally it became about the size of a dime and i poked it with a needle and it all drained out was full of puss. i also had this problem on the front side as well on the other ear a few years ago and i constantly have to drain it
I have them on one of my ears....im like a teenager so im freaking out what they are!i hope its has something to do with hormones cause if its cancer i willl flip!its rlly painful big and annoying..plz someone help me!
I've never had my ears pierced but I too have this little painful lump growing right in the middle of my left earlobe. I was squeezing it thinking it was a pimple but when nothing came to surface and the pain increased I stopped squeezing it. Feeling it with my fingers and looking in the mirror, I can tell this is no pimple. However, I wish I could just squeeze this little hard bump and get the pain over with after sanitizing the area. This really hurts!
Same problem with me as well. In the right earlobe right where your ear is supposed to be pierced. I've never had my ears pierced and this cyst is really irritating. Also I was wondering - after this is all cured and stuff-m is it okay to get your ears pierced? Does it cause infection as well? I don't have any known allergies...
I am under 14 yrs old, and I have a bump on my right ear, above where you get your ear pierced, right next to your, -ear canal-? on the outside of my ear. I think it may be a bug bite, and I think it has gone down. I noticed it.. either yesterday, or the day before I can't remember. I'm pretty sure it's red.. and it's the only one i have.. I think It could possibly be a flea bite from my dog. Any idea what it is?
About 6 months ago my son had a rather large red lump come up on the back of his ear lobe. He has never had any piercings or anything. It was very painful. I took him to the Dr. and they lanced and drained it. Took several days for it to heal but he still had a hard knot in there. Now its back again. I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa, a skin disorder or sweat gland disorder (which ever you prefer) there isn't enough research on it to know what causes it. But, I have large, painful, sometimes disabling boil like lumps on my inner thighs. This lump on my sons ear looks similar. Just wondering if maybe it could be one of the same? When they lanced the lump on my sons ear last time it was full of blood, creamy white fluid and some other junk. They never could tell me what it was. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it!! Thanks :)
If you've had it for five years you should really go to the doctor!
(someone may have asked this question before but), I've got this small lump infront of my right ear lobe, at the moment it I not visible but I can feel it inside my skin. It is painful when I touch it and I seems to be growing. Help, I'm freaking out at the moment!!

Hi. I have had these cysts in both ears since I was about 19. I am 47 now and have them most all the time. It has nothing with how you clean or dry your ears. You have a susbacious gland behind your ear that ca be over active and release a yellowish puss deep in the ear tissue. Believe me, I know it sucks but they will not harm you unless you keep squeezing them. Then they COULD get infected and cause blood poisoning which is harmful if you have a heart condition. Lucky for me I have all. And sometimes you can't help but pick at them while you sleep. That's the hard part. I had several removed when I was younger but I don't recommend it at the drop of a hat. Unless the Doctor can remove 100% including puss, it will just come back. And then you have stitched scar tissue behind your ear that just makes them worse. One Dr put me on an antibiotic for a year straight which would not let me go out in the sun without burning. I have had some basic medical training and in very steril environments I have used a scalpel to lance them myself. I DO NOT ADVISE this. I have only done it when they have been infected and as a last resort. Your best bet is to not touch them and wait it out.
