Random itching all over my body

Hi all
I'm 22 and female, and for quite a long time I have been suffering from itching all over my body, mainly during the night. It will occur almost every single night and it is so irritating that I can never sleep!
The only allergy I know of is of a certain body wash that I once used...but that was a few years ago and quickly stopped using it. I have had the itching for as many years as I can remember, but it has always been extremely rare and only seems to occur at night, just when I'm trying to sleep. (Typical.) However, last year when I moved house, I suffered from it slightly more often (roughly every few weeks?). And in March this year, my boyfriend and I moved into a flat together, and since then, I have had it very nearly every single night. I have tried sleeping tablets (just the over-the-counter type) but with no luck. Doesn't matter how tired I am.
I have used the same body wash and shampoo for years and like i said, it used to pretty much never occur, so I ruled out allergies to that. The same applies to washing powder for my clothes etc, and my diet has always been the same.
It only seems to occur at night, and it's mainly on my legs, but it does occur all over (from head to toe!). I haven't ever had any kind of rashes or visible problems. I sometimes apply moisturiser, which can help a little but not always. I try to avoid scratching at all costs!
Erm what else...my boyfriend has never seemed to suffer from it (we share a bed). One thing I've heard that can cause itching is mould, and there is a little of it in my bedroom. However, when we moved in, we slept in a different room, and also, why would I have itched last year when I lived in a different house??
ARGH every night is almost guarunteed to result in no sleep at all...it's getting me down so much and I feel so exhausted. Funnily enough though....I usually find I can sleep during the daytime! I try to avoid it so I won't mess up my sleeping pattern, but it's the only time the itching isn't too bad.

hi , you are suffering from a build up of histamine, this can be poor diet or outside reaction to something in the air or clothing, at night your body starts it cleansing cycle and while you sleep or try to, it releases anti toxins to break up your body intake of undesirables and extra histamine is released to assist this bodily function.that is why the anti histamine tablets zirtek you have tried work for a while but not always, they are good but sometimes to strong, try the cheaper version , from tesco or asda, they are milder and 1 a night should help relax your body, it works for me,best of luck

I have had random itching for 6 years now...began at a time when I quit drinking soda, and acquired a taste for beer.
My dermatologist prescribed Allegra, and it works, but I've had to take it daily, or twice daily, depending, and it's getting old.
I'd like to track it down and be done with it...so I saw my allergist from years ago who helped me with airborne allergies.
She gave me a few years of shots that helped alot, but does not "cure", she also prescribed Allegra for bad seasons.
I am now trying out a gluten free diet, am one month in, and have no relief yet, but am going to hang in there,
as another poster said it took his wife 3 months.
I'm sure what ever has built up in me that I'm allergic too will require some time to flush out.
Gluten free is not that difficult, and is probably good for you even if it does not stop the itching.
this is the best answer.
one possibility is you might be pregnant
hello! my symptoms match urs as well. as if i have invisible fleas or knats jumping spontaneously throughout my body! its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING! n thats cuz let alone i suffer from depression, bipolar disorder and high anxiety! im B E G G I N G 4 sumone 2 help me out since this has caused me 2 try committing suicide 3 times already. yeah its that bad!!!!!!! n like u said i more typically can get sleep during the day but who can afford 2 sleep away their days right? i have no health insurance so i feel freakin hopeless. i take 1 mg of clonazepam n 100 mg of vistaril but it seems that lately it hasnt been able 2 keep consistently rested night after night. i called the suicide hotline last night cuz i was thinking about committing suicide again but i dont want 2 hurt my family that way. if sumone has an answer to what ive posted PLEEEEESE HELP! my life is at stake cus im tired of always being tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no joke!! please help!!!!!!!!!!
I can understand how you must feel. If it were not for anti-histamines being able to control my itching (albeit, not perfectly), I'd be a goner too. If ever I was in a bad financial shape and couldn't afford allegra or Zirtek, insanity and suicide would surely follow.
I finally looked online to see if I was the only one. The itch starts about the same time every evening about 6:30 or so. Vaginal, ankles, face, arms, etc. Is there anything besides antihistimes? I am already so dry. I had shingles 3 years ago in the eye and optical nerve. I still have eye problems. I had/have vaginal itch at the same time as everything else inches. I have fibromyalgia and on hydrocodone. I don't itch like that during the day when taking a pain pill. My armpits got so bad I stopped using deodorant I thought it was a bacteria problem since then it cleared up, about a month. I am pretty ill and in pain most the time and have tried all the fibromyalgia meds. I am tired of the throbbing itch. Help!
I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in Janurary of this year. I also suffer from RLS (restless leg sydrome) which has been going on for several years. Just last Wednesday night (almost a week ago from when I posted this) I began to itch all over and now from time to time my body feels really warm. The itching calms down at night time though. At first I thought it was a reaction to some acne medication that I started using that same night all of this started, but I have left it off of my skin now for almost three days and I still have this problem. IT'S IRRITATING! Could my anxiety be the cause of it?
I've have rashes, especially during the night and pimple outbreaks since I was 7 years old. I still have them at the age of 67. I think it's because I had Pneumonia when I was a baby and had too much antibiotics. Since April of last year, I started a diet to get more minerals into my body due to cavities developing in my many of my teeth. In researching ways to heal tooth decay, I discovered a book called CURE TOOTH DECAY by Ramiel Nagel based on the research of Dr Weston A Price who went all over the world to see why certain cultures have no tooth decay. He discovered it was our diet. In the book, Nagel talked about grains containing phytic acid that bind with the minerals and take them out of your body. Along with making you mineral deficient, many people develop Leaky Gut Syndrome, or Celiac Disease. Since I was losing many of my teeth, I decided to go on the diet. Though my teeth started to get stronger, I still have problems with them, but to my amazement, when I stopped eating grains, especially wheat, my pimples disappeared. Giving up grains is not easy and I often cheat, the minute I do, I start to get little outbreaks and rashes all over my body, especially at night when I sleep. You could be developing an intolerance to grains. Try cutting them out for a week and see what happens.
I have had this same problem for as long as I could remember. Mine is relaxed to body hair (I'm a female). I have more hair follicles that usual, sometimes multiple hairs breaking through the same "hole" in the skin. The only way I could sleep at night was if I show revered, shaved and lotions right before bed, but even then it was tough. I started getting laser hair removal and the itching went away immediately. Laser hair removal is every 6 weeks and at week 5 hair starts breaking through the skin again and it he itching starts.
only relief is that in a few months treatments will be over and the itching will be gone for good! My nerve endings are extremely sensitive to the growing hair and it causes such intense itching. I have to shave my arms, stomach, legs, etc.
i should also add that I have PCOS that causes excess testosterone in females. It means much more hair than most females!
I've had the same problem as the original post, except it's only been going on for about a week. I'm sick of it and can't sleep. It seems that right when I hit the sheets I begin to itch but have no whelps and no bumps anywhere that I'm itching. It seems to start in small places on my back, then armpits, then groin area, feet, buttocks...it's a freaking nightmare! I seem to be the only male here experiencing this problem, but my girlfriend of whom I sleep with sleeps like a baby. There have been no changes to my diet, detergent, shampoo, soap...nothing! I washed my sheets twice in hot water yesterday and still suffering from this! I feel helpless and just want a good night of sleep!!! I can't believe that this has gone on for years for some of these people...I really feel for you.
