Random itching all over my body

Hi all I'm 22 and female, and for quite a long time I have been suffering from itching all over my body, mainly during the night. It will occur almost every single night and it is so irritating that I can never sleep! The only allergy I know of is of a certain body wash that I once used...but that was a few years ago and quickly stopped using it. I have had the itching for as many years as I can remember, but it has always been extremely rare and only seems to occur at night, just when I'm trying to sleep. (Typical.) However, last year when I moved house, I suffered from it slightly more often (roughly every few weeks?). And in March this year, my boyfriend and I moved into a flat together, and since then, I have had it very nearly every single night. I have tried sleeping tablets (just the over-the-counter type) but with no luck. Doesn't matter how tired I am. I have used the same body wash and shampoo for years and like i said, it used to pretty much never occur, so I ruled out allergies to that. The same applies to washing powder for my clothes etc, and my diet has always been the same. It only seems to occur at night, and it's mainly on my legs, but it does occur all over (from head to toe!). I haven't ever had any kind of rashes or visible problems. I sometimes apply moisturiser, which can help a little but not always. I try to avoid scratching at all costs! Erm what else...my boyfriend has never seemed to suffer from it (we share a bed). One thing I've heard that can cause itching is mould, and there is a little of it in my bedroom. However, when we moved in, we slept in a different room, and also, why would I have itched last year when I lived in a different house?? ARGH every night is almost guarunteed to result in no sleep at all...it's getting me down so much and I feel so exhausted. Funnily enough though....I usually find I can sleep during the daytime! I try to avoid it so I won't mess up my sleeping pattern, but it's the only time the itching isn't too bad.

A friend told me that he had itching all over when he was on a "statin" medicine, for cholesterol. He changed to Lipitor and that took care of it.
Hi....my 18 yr old is going through this right now. She is a terribly picky eater so lack of iron may be a good call. She also suffers from an anxiety disorder so stress may be the culprit. A double whammy! :/ Cat
I have been suffering from itching all over my body and rash everywhere. It has been 2 weeks so far and I can't sleep very well because it's getting worth at night. I took a blood test and my dr. told me i have some problem with my joints so i need to see a Rheumatologiest. I will go see a rheumatologiest on thursday this week so i might be able to help you some questions... It has been painful... I don't have any allergies. I always have good energy and am very outgoing and active but alot of people told me it happend because of the stress.... Now it's about 4:17am..and my body is so itching....I can't sleep.... I had the same problem on summer or warm days itching on few area. Had two blood tests on two different doctors and neg. one doctor said, try allergies pill (zyrtec) it work for me, one pill last five days no itching. One day my co-worker lost weight by detox his body and post at the work place how to detox your body, I try just one item, two cup Green tea with senna plus add pinch of senna herd on Friday night and one cup on Saturday morning plus few time to the restroom. Notice it stop itching on the first week. Is about three week few itching here and there but not as bad before taking the tea. So I try it again two weekend taking the tea, less itching.
After 3 months? That's slow enough to be more useless than even anecdotal. Could've been all kinds of things, especially if she never thought to get an allergy test. A tree nearby producing an allergen could've been removed in that time span, there could've been mold or mildew lurking in your house that finally died off, etc... Or perhaps she was iron-deficient and a change in diet that would be a side effect of eating less sugar and gluten (= eating more meat and certain veggies, particularly spinach) masked that the iron deficiency was the true cause.
You should get rechecked for allergies if you haven't been already. Could be stress, but yeah. You can develop allergies at almost any point in your life.
I suffer from Anxiety, my body itches all over as like having my skin crawling the worst part is the base of my head and neck, I think I have itched all my hair off the back of my head it itches so badly and I have noticed bumps every once in a while while scratching the back of my head. This is a new symptom for me and thought I might have MS. Seeing my doc at the end of this month. Good luck to all you scratchers out there.
I suffer from this also. It happens at random times in random places but the worst areas are usually on my neck and back. If I have a small itch and I scratch it then everything will then get incredibly itchy. It will lead to some redness and sometimes what look like hives but they are not there until after scratching. Sometimes it lasts several minutes and sometimes not long at all and it will go away as quickly as it comes on. This started for me a couple weeks ago and has been ongoing. I dont believe it to be related to any stress as it happens randomly, meaning also at times when I am stress free.
I get the base of head and neck itching too. It gets really bad at times. Let us know what your doctor says.
This is exactly what I'm going thru every night. My arms leg back and chest constantly itch when I scratch it gets worse and leave these rash like on me and in guessing welts
I went to the doctors and asked him about it, he looked at the back of my head and said it looked irritated, I said DUH, I have been itching it. Although I do not have dandruff he said to use Selsun Blue or Head n shoulders shampoo every day for a week and see if that helps. I also suffer from anxiety and itching, burning skin is a symptom. Good luck everyone with your itching. I got no answers.
My son had EXACTLY the same symptoms and went undiagnosed for 3 years. The itching was torture...complete hell!  He also didn't sleep for the last 2 years and everyone had started to think it was anxiety induced but no drugs helped...AT ALL!  He is 22 also.  He had seen 16 doctors of every specialty field before we went to Mayo Clinic.  Within 23 hours they had done a chest CT scan and found he has Hodgkins Lymphoma.  We were so stunned we were speechless.  Who knew itching could indicate cancer?  Evidently, it is more rare but it is still on the symptom list.  I don't want to scare you but if I were you, I would run to your nearest internal medicine doctor and ask for a CT scan to rule that out.  Our son has a mediastinal mass that is the size of a grapefruit...13.5 cm!  I am really angry that one of those doctors didn't find it sooner.  Here are 2 questions to ask yourself:  Does it get worse when you take a hot shower? Does it get worse when you drink alcohol?  My son answered yes to those 2 questions and that's what made the doctor interviewing him order a CT scan.  We have learned that Hodgkins typically shows up in 21-25 yr old males or females. My son's itching went away after his second chemo treatment.  He felt like he has been given his life back because the itching is gone and he can sleep even though he is just starting into a really hard next few months of treatment.
