had my right side open inguinal hernia surgery and had a mesh placed by the surgeon. for the first 3 days I had trouble getting in and out of the bed and some discomfort because of the huge swelling of the scrotum and numbness. However after three days, I am able to get out of the bed with less discomfort but the swelling of the scrotum was still there after 3 days. This got me worried and I went to the doctor after 4 days and he indicated to give it some time.
At the end of first week, the swelling of the scrotum was much less and at the end of two weeks it was almost 70% less than the third day of swelling. Went to the Doctor and he was happy to see the swelling go down. However, while the swelling had gone down , I noticed that there was a hard lump of the testicle on the right side. The surgeon indicated to give another 4 weeks ( i.e. almost 6 weeks from the day of operation) and have another appointment. Additionally, I also try to test the equipment and to my surprise found some blood during ejaculation. Called the doctor and he said that to give it some time. ( has anyone had similar issue). While I am waiting for my six week appointment, at the moment i am almost 23 days into the surgery and the hard lump is still there. It is getting me worried. Has anyone seen similar symptoms. I am seeing the hard lump mass getting somewhat less but very slowly.
Giving all the above details to see if anyone had the same symptoms and how long did it take for the hard lump to become very less to almost gone. Any feeback from the previous experience of anyone will be helpful.

Did your testicles return to normal size. I am 23 days into my right open inguinal hernia surgery with mesh and have hard lump on the right side. just making me worried but the Doc says give it some time. Your feedback will give me some more assurance.

I have the same issue. Can you tell us what was your final outcome and how long did it take for your testicle to get back to normal.
This information was very helpful especially since everybody's off on the weekend and can't get a hold of them. Nobody told me this was going to happen. I thought something was wrong like an infection. Almost went to the ER and yes it does hurt when bumpted.

I had the inguinal surgery and the hard lump did go away at the end of three months and everything is back to normal. As a matter of fact, I just took a long vacation for two weeks and traveled overseas and had no problems as of yet. So if you have doubts, just the way I had it few weeks ago, I can tell you, that things to come back to normal. It is always making an individual anxious when they are in the first few weeks of the surgery and experiencing the symptoms and especially people who do not post follow up as they have already returned back to normal life.
So my friend, just be patient and things will be back to normal. In my case, the doctor had made my knot somewhat tight and as a result my testicle on one side is a little higher than the other. However, it does not bother me at this time because it looks and feels normal. Doctor told m that the additional tightening will make sure that the recurrence change is very negligible. I am just taking his word for the above situation.

My spouse had this surgery and I kept him loaded up with stool softeners, mirolax and milk of mag. Still, 5 days in, no BM. I was about to give him a stimulant laxative and my sister, a nurse, said PRUNE JUICE works every time. Two 8 oz. glasses and a glass of water. He did that and it worked like a dream.
Your story is identical to mine, so I’m curious the year removed from the situation what happened...

My husband had 2 ingunial and one umbilical hernias repaired with mesh 2 weeks ago today. He was in and out of pain for 12 days -on the 13 day the pain was unbearable. One of his ingunial hernias was extra large. He started icing it again yesterday with baby peas wrapped in a t shirt (for 20 minutes/5 times a day) and starting taking extra strength Tylenol along with Ibuprofen and he feels better today. He went to the Doctor this morning just to make sure he was ok- Doctor said that he was normal and that it may take up to a month for the swelling and hard lumps to go away. Also to maybe put heat on it too- to break it up. God Bless and take care
