I wasn't expecting this surgery and recovery to be as difficult as it has been. I was hoping to be back to work within 48hrs....ha!! Despite what my surgeon said, 48hrs wasn't even feasible. I have been off all week and hoping I can return Tuesday. I need to be back at work, as I cannot afford being off this long. Has created quite a hardship.
Please tell me these symptoms will pass and i will feel normal again soon. I was hesitant to have the surgery in the first place, but eager to fix the problem and get rid of the chronic pain I had with my gallbladder. Hoping I won't regret my decision....
They have a "after gallbladder removal kit" that I'm going to try. After reading it, makes alot of since. Some of these Dr's just want our money, we have to look after ourselves!
Good luck everybody!
Blessings
I had my lapcol surgery 4 weeks ago. Everything went fine and I walked to the toilet 2.5 hours after the procedure (drugs are great!), no-one warned me abot the lack of bladder cooperation after surgery though. You just sit there and wait until your bladder decide it's time to go :) This improves after a couple of weeks.
But regarding the diet, I spoke to my surgeon and my G.P and they both said the same thing. Cut down on the foods that got me in trouble to start with! I was weighing 17 & 3/4 stone at 5'11 and now I'm down to 15 & 1/2 and still going. I can eat anything without pain but I am avoiding fatty/fried food as much as possible eventhough I have not cut them out totally! I do feel bloated if I eat a large meal but I look at this as a good thing it's a constant reminder not to overeat almost like an alarm system. I now try to eat more often and smaller amounts, I tend to feel more full after eating than I did before so I find that I'm not eating large portions now anyway.
There is one strange side effect. If I don't eat I get a weird spasm in my right side where the gallbladder was. It's not very painfull but it feels very strange, makes me jump out of my seat everytime. I find eating a slice of bread cures it straight away, not sure what causes it but if I find out I'll post it.
I just wanted to post this to let anyone who is thinking of getting the op know that it's not always life changing for the worse. Granted it's not long since my surgery and if anything changes I'll let you know but so far so good. But compared to the pain I was suffering this is a massive improvement.
i have some great news for everyone here asking about the pain and bloating after eating :D
I too was experiencing the same issues, (after removal of my gallbladder) but started taking DIGESTIVE ENZYMES after every meal.....miraculously, they work brilliantly. They help with the digestion of fat, protein and lactose.
You can buy them online, or from your local vitamin/health food store.
Give them a go, they worked wonders for me.
Good luck x
You need to understand how your body works, what is now not working to fully understand your condition and correct it.
Your liver secretes bile( digestive enzymes )slowly and it is stored in the Gallbladder (reservoir)to give one large shot when you have a meal.
When you have it removed, your meal you have just eaten does not have these Digestive Enzymes in the large quantity to digest your meal. Some of the foods you eat are particulary difficult to digest, such as red meat and pork for example.
In patients with Gallbladder removal, they deal with these complex proteins by putrification( Rotting in the body) which produces excess gasses and fluid and causes a swollen appearance around the stomach.
It is beneficial to go on a diet that reduces meat and pork, increases vegatables, pulses and grains, but the main change is the taking of Digestive Enzymes that deal completely with Proteins, Carbohydrates and fats. This will greatly improve your well being, appearance and 90% cure the condition.
I find it absolutely amazing that doctors do not prescibe these as a matter of course after such operations, its appalling!
Anyone wanting these on a regular basis can contact me, I can supply 6 weeks supply for just £42 UK sterling including shipping world wide for free. I will also include a partial restricted diet, but its not that neccessary when taking these tablets.
Also its very benefical to take Milk Thistle and selenium which helps clean the liver of toxins and to drink plenty of fluids, especially water!

Prof Howe
Thank you so much for your post. I had my gallbladder taken out a month ago, and am still bloated beyond belief. Between that, and not being able to regularly go to the bathroom, it's very uncomfortable. I got the ok to start working out again about 2 weeks ago, but that has only made my stomach look bigger. Starting the probiotics and digestive enzymes tomorrow, and will be picking up some milk thistle and selenium. I wonder why the surgeon never mentioned the digestive enzymes. Hopefully this takes care of the issue! Good luck to everyone in their recovery, and thanks again Prof Howe!!
hi i,m Dot i,m 19..has anyone used Kangen water or ionized ph adjusted water as a helpfull solution. I did,t know it could help with my daily diet till chatting with my dad who drinks it for his heartburn and he knows a guy at work who is drinking the same stuff as my dad for his gall bladder removal issues and a lady he knows as well with the same gall bladder story and so now he has me to share his super water with. They all claim good things with it. I just know dad aint got the heartburn he use to have and is getting his beauty sleep and aint so grouchy at my sisters and me. It will be a while till i get my own machine for making the water so I have someone else making it for me and i made room in my fridge for it.
I had my gall bladder just removed and i am now looking for diet help within the internet world. still in pain from the surgery and the blown up stomach thing,.

But I'm still dealing with the bloating -- sometimes it's more of a problem than others, but I haven't yet found the common denominator in the foods I'm eating that seems to cause it. However, I know that less meat/more vegetables is a healthy diet anyway, so I'm going to start trying that approach -- along with the digestive enzymes.
Again, I'm so glad I found this website - it's really frustrating to eat right and exercise and then sometimes look like you're pregnant! Major bummer. Hopefully, this new approach will work -
Good luck to all -
