hi i know this is a long while ago but i just found out I have gallstones today. My stomach always looks bloated and pregnant. Is this related in any way? thanks

My stomach looked bloated and pregnant when they found out my gallbladder crystallized. It has been one year since my surgery and like others I have horrible swelling and bloating and even swelling in my legs at times. I watch what I eat and try not to eat any salt. I would ask your Dr. about this if it could be a future issue. If anyone knows how to get rid of this bloating please respond. The Dr. told me he couldn't find anything and just see if this continues, he said maybe in the future we can run a few more tests. I feel lost not knowing what to do for the bloating and swelling.

I had similar problems after I had my gallbladder removed, but then - after reading the posts on this website - I tried taking digestive enzymes with every meal (and snack). It has helped immensely with the bloating and swelling. Nothing else I tried seemed to work, but the digestive enzymes sure do. Hope this helps!

In my experience, yes, it is related. I had to have my gall bladder removed, and the only thing that seemed to help with the bloating was taking digestive enzymes. Taking them has been a genuine help!

What dose do you take and is it the ones from like GNC? I would do anything to get this to subside it is very painful.

I think perhaps my specific recommendations might be "blocked out" by this site, but I take Natural Sources Digestive Enzmes. I used to just take one or two as directed, but then I started taking more - before the meal and than also after the meal - and it helped even more.
I think you probably just have to see what works best for you - good luck!

Thank you so much for the chuckle! I need it. I just had my gallbladder out 5 days. I stupidly ate homemade beef stew for dinner tonight and one hour later I am also, blown up like a puffer fish! And in pain even on a Vicodin! I started to feel really fat and I look at my stomach and got real scared because of it's size. So I thank you and everyone else for posting (and throwing some humor in). Your posts has helped me. It made me laugh instead of cry. I now know NO RED MEAT!! The stuff is bad for us anyways! Just so people know I did have bloating problems before they took my gallbladder out but not to this degree. This is the worst I have ever seen my self bloated. I do hope it does go away This is horrible I am afraid I am going to pop a stitch! I have learned my lesson I will stick to the non offensive food!

wow all this is great information,i had my gall bladder removed almost a year ago.I feel horrible and couldnt figure out why i look like i have gained 40 pounds yet the scale still read the same.will try low fat low carb and no red meat, was told i did not have to change my diet at all.well there goes steak and beer night but anything to feel better.

I also was told I didn't have to change my diet. I even went back and seen the surgeon three times asking what was going on and what could I do. Every time he said I don't understand, he did some tests and well nothing was wrong. I'm with the rest of you this swelling and bloating hurts really bad, I have swelled as much to look fully pregnant. I have even stayed home because my clothes were way to tight from the swelling. Yesterday I went to the Dr. as I have been a little under the weather with a cold (different dr) and I asked him about this swelling. The Dr told me to try taking something like Metamucil to keep my bowels moving good as sometimes people have issues with bloating after gall bladder surgery. I'm not sure this will work as my bowels move fine....lol But, at this point in time I am willing to try anything, along with never eating red meat again.

I ordered NOW Foods Super Enzymes I really hope this helps. I have been taking ox bile also. Is really recommended after GB removal I hope with the combination of these two supplements, I can put an end to this  nightmare. If you ask me, I rather deal with the pain of GB stones than with this bloat, diarrhea and everything else associated post surgeryOx Bile

I am so glad that I found these posts, and to know that I am not alone with this bloating, I had my gall bladder removed in 2012, and I look like I am about seven months pregnant. My doctor said I could eat anything, as in a regular diet, but I see that is not true. What is the solution to this problem? Had I known this before surgery, I don't think I would have gone through with it.

I had gall bladder sugery two weeks ago and like the others who have posted I am experiencing great discomfort with bloating.  However, this was a symptom for me prior to the surgery.  Has anyone else had it prior to surgery?

OMG!!  I also used to have awesome abs, and was always a size 4-5 before my surgery over 3 years ago.  I've gained about 30 lbs, and my mom is convinced I'm dying of liver disease because my stomach is so bloated.  I am sooo relieved I'm not the only one, except that I would love a solution.  Unerlying mesh??  Damn, that's serious, but I guess I'd consider it because I'd like to have my body back.  My sister is several months pregnant, and keeps pointing out that I'm still bigger than her.  Not that I'm extremely concerned about appearance, but I feel really out of shape and tired as well.

OMG I had surgery 3 years ago and I awoke after surgery with a very bloated tummy and to this day everyone asks if I am pregnant even though I am 51 years old.  I have a tiny waist size 12 in clothes until u get to my tummy and then I need size 16 pants to go around my tummy but my butt and legs I take a size 11 pants.  I wish I had never had the operation.  Unfortunately they don't make enough swing tops out there to cover the stomach.  I would do anything to have a flat tummy again.
