It is very strange, I have had this problem on/off for I don't know how long and usually doesn't last that long (I do feel very gassy in that end around the time it happens, so maybe trapped gas). Occasionally it lasts for several minutes. I have recently started eating healthier (fiber included) and have had to push hard at times during bowel movements, but it is annoying.  I am actually going tomorrow to Dr. for Over Active Bladder that I've always had (and mentioned to dr's but no one said much) but I will mention this as well tmr. The bladder thing didn't bother me that much but has become even more frequent and I am only 36, but if something can be helped to make this better.   I am amazed at how many people have had this same 'vibrating' feelin.

I have this type of issue! Only mine feels extremely faint, sometimes feel almost like a tiny bubble in there pops, or a tiny buzz. Mine only seems to be like 1 or 2 seconds and maybe 5 times on and off a day?

Mainly writing to provide re-assurance to others who are worried as I 34y old male) was: I had for many months experienced an increasing and incredible amount of gassiness, along with increasing urge to go to the toilet during the day espescially shortly after eating (maybe 5x a day). One day I woke up and had the buzzing butt - every 7 seconds, buzz for 2 seconds. Went to my gp who referred me to a specialist (I am fortunate to have amazing private health care via BUPA). Notable components of my diet include a lot of caffeine (5 teas per day at work, and I leave the bag in, plus homemade white bread every day for lunch and generally a fair amount of things like potatoes, onions, garllic.) I also travelled to India in November, but didin't eat any meat and as far as I'm aware didn't bring anything back.  I had noticed that my symptoms weren't so bad on the weekends (when I got more sleep, probably didn't have as much caffeine, and didn't have my homemade bread). In the meantime, after researching here, I eliminated the caffeine at work and also the home made bread (bought store sandwiches). Buzzing butt symptoms began to become sporadic after a day or two, and completely gone in 4-5 days.

I described the situation to the gastrointestinal specialist and he felt confident the issue was completely diet related, likely very much owing to the home made bread (which has yeast but also transforms into sugars when being digested which will feed stomach bacteria). However, to rule out other things like celiac disease, he took blood samples and fecal samples which i am still awaiting the results on.

Anyway, for those suffering... take a look not just at caffeine (which may or may not be related) but also things like breads which convert into sugars.

My thought is that it is circulatory, so riding a bike, pushing, hemorrhoids, anything that causes an acute pressure may start an episode. But what do I know, I'm just an herbalist.

If you are experiencing an itching sensation around your anus and a 'moving' or 'biting' sensation in this region then it could be parasites like pinworms or even worse hookworms which can both be treated with medication.

That vibration that you felt could just be gas.

Oh my word ... I felt really strange typing this into Google, but I am so glad I found this old thread. I am a long-term Crohnnie, but have never had any symptoms like this until the last couple of weeks - and yes, I was starting to think I had either swallowed or was sitting on my phone. I don't feel overly concerned, but it sure is aggravating. Maybe I am about to receive my own spiritual awakening, lol.

Quite a relieve to know there's many other people experiencing the same symptom mine. My anus have been twitching on and off for many years. Today, it got a little overly annoying that I decided to do a google search on it.

I noticed that I started experiencing off and on the strange light buzzing in anal area maybe for a month now.  Seems to happen when sitting, lying down or standing. I believe it could be a spasm.  I had the same feeling on in my leg last year, I happened to be at my doctors office for a routine exam and she asked me "Is anything else troubling me."   I told her,  "Yes there's this light buzzing feeling on my right leg in the chin area." but funny how it was happening in the waiting room all that time but was not present all of a sudden.  Then it happened, I shouted excitedly "there it is! there it is! " She felt it, then said to me that appears to be a spasm, she urged to start taking magnesium.  I was taking 200mg as well as B12 2000mcg but ran out.  I guess I have to refill my medicine cabinet.  I found out that it did help.  .  I have experienced spasms in unusual places, like diaphram area, under my right eye.

The following are a good source of magnesium

Green leafy vegetables are rich sources of magnesium. Some examples include  Swiss chard, spinach, mustard greens and broccoli. A half cup of cooked spinach  provides 75 mg of magnesium, or 20 percent of the Recommended Daily Value, or  RDA. Significant sources of magnesium can also be found in various legumes, nuts  and seeds, such as flaxseed, peas, lentils, beans, cashews and almonds. One  ounce of dry-roasted cashews provides 75 mg of magnesium. Other sources of  magnesium include fruits and whole  grains. One  medium-size banana provides 30 mg of magnesium.

Magnesium is required for the proper growth and maintenance of bones. Magnesium is also required for the proper function of nerves, muscles, and many other parts of the body. In the stomach, magnesium helps neutralize stomach acid and moves stools through the intestine.
