Uncomfortable pressure under left rib cage

Hi --
For the last six months or so I have had uncomfortable pressure under my left rib cage. When I first noticed it I was sick with the flu and my husband made me go to the doctor. They did an MRI and ruled out any problems with my spleen, etc. It seemed to go away after that, but lately I have been noticing it again. I feel it when I am lying down and sitting down. I try to stretch or move into a more comfortable position but it just won't go away. Not painful exactly, just a dull ache and pressure. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Wow! I'm actually in the hospital for the same feeling. I can't believe you had a tumor! I'm definitely going to have them do more test.
For me, this little presure pain under my last left ribs, started with presure in my throat wich my doctor discovered that i have problem with my tyroid. This pressure was very light than grater and grater with the feeling of not beeing able to bread well, high pulse and transpiration. I am on tyroid medicine for almost 2 years, and every time this feeling of pressure comes back, i know is because my tyroid doesnt work properly.

Wow, I am very amazed at what I have read. I am experiencing the same problems. I contracted the flu and I noticed a pre sure in my side. It is not underneath my ribs but it is often just below the ribs. Sometimes I feel it just above my left hip. When I sit in the car sometimes it feels like I am sitting on something, and a pressure in my back. Many times I have felt behind me to see if there is something in my seat. Sometimes the pressure feels like it is in my back sometimes it feels like it is almost on the left side of my spine. At night sometime I lay on my right side and the pressure feels like it is on my spine then I shift to the left side and it feels like it is on my left side. I have no idea what this is. I never experience any health problems, it is rare for me to even get sick. It is not uncommon for me to not make a Dr.visit for an entire year or 2. However this has ne concerned, it is uncomfortable. Here is what I have noticed it is somewhat food related if I eat bad it feels worse. Also I have noticed the pressure is alway lighter after night when I am on empty stomach. I have tried fasting 24 and even 48 hours. Water fasting this alway makes it feel better. If it starts to feel inflamed I will fast and that makes it better. I do have insurance now so I will make a trip to Dr. And Chiropractor and let you know what I findbout.
I have had what I call a baby's foot pushing on my left ribcage I had Mir and it showed nothing. It doesn't,t hurt its just hard to set or stand at long.
Sounds like a pulled intercostal muscle. There really isn't any treatment except ibuprophen and time. Took mine about 6 weeks to heal. Happened again 2 years later.
I've had the same pressure under my left ribcage. I've had every test imaginable and been to a gastro specialist. I was told I had a fatty liver and was told with abstinence from any liquor and a low-fat diet the pressure would go away. That was a year ago I changed my diet and no longer drink my nightly glass of red but the pressure is still there. Not sure what to do next!
I experienced same as you have, 2 years ago I went to all the test as recommended by the Doctor.
But found nothing. Until now I have still that feeling, on and off. Probably this is a muscle thing.
I have the same problem, I'm 35 and male.
Started when my wife divorced me, 3 years ago.
It first became uncomfortable when I rode 300 miles up north to visit someone, and sitting in the bucket seat of the car so long seemed to have aggravated it.
If it's a tumor, then this will be the way to go, I thought...
I noticed that since then I gained weight, both fatty and muscular.
I also almost always sleep on my belly, left side up.
Hope someone finds out what it is...
A friend of mine passed away 3 months ago with something similar. He thought it was an ulcer in the stomach, but he said his came with a light burning sensation of pain, and it didn't go away.
By the time he got it checked out, it had spread all over.
He managed to live for 6 more months... he was 38.
Not to freak anyone out, I have it for 3 years+ now, and eat healthy.
Still don't know what it is...
I FOUND MY CURE!! For the last year I suffered from pressure on the left side (under rib cage) and upper middle abdominal area. It got to the point that I could barely eat or drink because that area would feel distended and would hurt when I ate/drank something. I had a HIDA scan to determine if I had a problem with my gallbladder. It showed that my gallbladder’s ejection fraction was only 2% (extremely low). However, my doctor didn’t recommend removing the gallbladder because I really had no pain attacks to speak of and the HIDA test didn’t show gallstones. I am glad I didn’t have the gallbladder removed. Well, it turned out that the unbearable pressure and resulting pain was due to poor digestion and gas accumulation (although I never felt like wanting to pass gas). The following has helped me a lot:
1) 125 mg. SIMETHICONE (bought over the counter) taken 15 minutes after a meal and/or before going to bed. It helps with moving the gases out. (Do not take more than 500 mgs. during a day) (If 125 mg. Simethicone is too much for you, then use “Infant’s Gas Relief Simethicone” that comes in 20 mg. drops)
2) “TOTAL TEA GENTLE DETOX.” It helps tremendously with digestion and bowel movement. Note: If it causes too much bowel movement, then A) decrease the steep time or amount taken; or B) take also Calcium Carbonate (such as TUMS) which tends to constipate; or C) Don’t take “Total Tea Gentle Detox” and take only Simethicone.
3) If the above doesn’t work, then take some digestive supplement such as “PANCREATIN” from Twinlabs, especially when eating animal protein. (I never take the entire capsule because it is too strong for me. So I buy empty vegetable capsules sold at health food stores, and divide the content of a capsule among several empty capsules).
I hope it helps!
I have the same exact problem on BOTH sides of my rib I don't know what is causing it but I can feel it a lot especially when I'm sitting down. It may be from pressure but I would like to get rid of it.

Thank you. Does it ever feel like something gets caught in your ribs? I am going to try the gas relief medicine. I am on several medications and have had several test. Doctors say IBS and also found inflamation in my stomach. MRI found a benign nodule on my thyriod and i'm on thyroid medicine now for under active thyroid. Not sure if that has anything to do with the pressure on my left side. Sometimes I get surges (lack of anything else to call them) in left side and numb, tingling left hand and pinky. I had blood clots in my left leg 7 years ago. I do have to take blood thinner the rest of my life. Other medicine cholesterol and prescription prilosec. I forgot to mention I'm 50 and in menopause. Having several hot flashes a day. The doctors want me on antidepressants but I am not depressed just desperate for answers. Wish everyone the best. Thank you.
Everyone here should search hypochlorhydria, or low stomach acid and its symptoms. It's not something often searched for by physicians. I learned about it via an alternative health news letter and it is this to a tee. There are home tests and home remedies, or more costly and more accurate tests your physician may be able to perform. I hope this helps!
