i think the problem that you are having is a prolapsed mucosa it is the lining of the bowel when you go to the toilet to pass a mosh ion the mucosa comes down with mows hon you can some times see it if you look you will see a little red lump which is soft it leaks water and sometimes times mucus it can all so bleed it will go back after a number of hours till you go again it is caused with straining it can be fixed with banding .
I've got the same leakage issues and am currently searching out a solution. One thing that can give you your life back without worrying about having to wipe so often is to get a cotton ball, sprinkle it with a little baby powder or gold bond powder and place it directly over the anus after a bowel movement. The cotton ball will stay in place until you remove it and will absorb any discharge, it also will keep your underwear and pants from smelling like the discharge. It's not a solution to the problem, but an easy and effective way to reduce the issues associated with the problem.
Hope this helps

Hi all, i am a 49 year old Male, i have read with interest all of the above comments with this problem, i too suffer with this and have had this now for a few years, i have had a colonoscopy as they initially thought this was being caused by Pollips in the Colon, however the results were all clear and they found no problem with the colon, i went back to see the specialist a few weeks later and they did not have any answers to my problem.
About 10 years ago i was diagnosed with non bacterial Prostatisis which i was told could not be treated with antibiotics because of it being non bacteria type, i was told the only way this could be helped was by manipulation/massage of the prostate gland, alternatively i should just go away and learn to live with it as it may go away by itself in time, well 10 yrs later it has not gone away and i wondered if this is connected with the acid discharge i have from my anus after visiting the toilet, my discharge is a watery discharge and also smells very strong and slightly fishy as someone said on here, i am also being treated for acid reflux and am currently taking Lansoprazol 15mg daily, these help my acid indigestion (reflux) and occasionally dry up my anus discharge but not always (for whatever reason)? Occasionally the dryness has cause pain when passing a stool caused i assume from the Lansoprasol drying out the acid in the body.
Another thing that i believe irritates the anus discharge is after ejaculation, this sometimes causes me to have stomach ache and the acid that follows over the next couple of days is very strong and burns the bottom, this could also be linked with my prostatitis though so not sure on that one. I have been told to try Canestan for the soreness and it eases the burning and itching slightly.
I play tennis at Club level and this can be very uncomfortable indeed, it does cause stress and anxiety as well, it can really get me down some days, it's also good to know i am not on my own here.

I am a 23 year old woman and i've been having the same problem, i'm a trained nurse and i've spoke to other nurses about this and we've been from a-z basically and to come on here and find there are other people with the same situation is a relief to say the least. I'm going to try the cranberry and garlic to see if that helps. I don't get the discharge, it's mainly just fluid that comes and goes, usually in the morning.
I've been bad for stomach flues lately which i've put down to a different diet due to my step dad taking over the cooking and cleaning side of things but i'm moving out soon so hopefully me eating my own choice of food and cooking methods will also help x

I am a 50 year old healthy, vey active woman and have had this problem for 3 years, every single day, and found out that it was a form of anusitis. I have done four things that have helped within the first 24 hours. First change your diet to an alkaline diet, that means no sugar, caffeine, seeds, popcorn, nuts, red meats...basically all the stuff that is fun to eat...change the diet to veggies, fruits and lean meats, grains, beans. Then go and get these three things from the pharmacy Florastor, Tucks suppositories, Tucks hemorrhodial wipes. Basically with anusitis, your anus tissue will release a discharge from swollen tissue after a bowel movement, that then causes severe itching to the point of bleeding. What I am doing is taking the Florastor twice day to rebalance my system and kill the candida yeast. Then right after a bowel movement, I insert the suppository and wipe the area with a Tucks wipe. Between all these things, I have literally seen a huge difference in the last 24 hours. First time in 3 years that I have not had a sever discharge and horrible anus itching after a bowel movement. Hope this helps, it has worked for me!
Hi just thought id add my bit. I have this issue 2 and it seems to happen if i eat lots of wheat. I have ibs anyways but the great deal of wheat does not help. Its burning and stuff and i will be going to doctors but i deff dnt recomend using fibre stuff!
well it's like this i also was going nuts when i had a leaking anus for almost a year i even ended up with a fussure i am 52 so i went for a Colonoscopy everything came up fine the Doctor gave me a butt cream still not helping so i read up on my meds i was on and found out that AMBIEN OR ZOLPIDEM WAS DOING IT stoped taking about 6 to 8 weeks ago and no more leaking and if you go to this webpage it will tell you why it happen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zolpidem this was also made for muscle relaxant
The problem you are all having is caused by internal hemroids. Your anus muscles are not closing all the way because the blood vessels which supply the anus are inflamed. The leaky stuff you speak of is in fact feces. I share in your pain. Hemeroids can go away on their own, but require some help. If you sit for long periods of time, I suggest a orthopedic donut. Stool softers are also a must, since harden stool will simply continue to aggitate the effected viens.
I have had the same problem for quite some time. I had sugery for an anal fissure. It helped stop the pain and blood during a bowel movement but didn't stop the leakage. Aften a year of suffering I finally got the courage to go to a DR. again many tests later, not the most comfortable ones I must say and there is nothing that can be done. I not only leak but have a terriable rash, not unlike a diaper rash, now I know why babies cry when they have a rash. The only thing I have found to help is of all things diaaper rash creme. I rub it on then fold a little gauze square and stick it on my butt in the crack it will stay. This does give me some realief when it gets bad. Like one of the people said, the irratation goes away for a couple of hours after a shower. I have started keeping a food diary. The Dr. said think back 48 hours, that's how long it takes for food to go through. I have found caffine, tomatoe based foods ,Pizza ,spaghetti etc, real spicy foods and sometimes citirus really set me on fire. If I avoid these I don't have nearly the problem. The other thing the Dr. said is to have about 30grams of fiber a day as someone earlier said this absorbs some of the liquid in the BM and it doesn't leak as easily. Not easy but I found a 1/2 cup of fiber one ceral in the am, I can handle and it starts the day out with 14 grams right off the bat. Keeping the area dry really helps that is why the little gauze pad helps. I am goind the health food store tomorrow and try the florajeh. I am ready to try anything! The Dr. said that with this problem I should have an annual annus checkup because years of irritation can lead to anal cancer, and it should be checked yearly. Oh Joy!
I am a 44yr old male and I have been suffering with this problem for around a year, found this forum last week and took some of the advice posted here. I am in the UK and chose Psyllium husks from Holland & Barrett that cost half the price of the branded items, I also got odour controlled garlic tablets and have been drinking ocean spray cranberry daily. I can't believe that within a week the problem has almost completely gone away. Thanks everyone.
Its a combination of things. I'll wipe with toliet paper, then a moist wipe and my anus will be clear as can be. Then take my dog for a walk and within 15 30 minutes its burning. When I get back to wipe sometimes its like I never even wiped at all. What Ive learned inthe past is that its your diet, you might be lactose intolerant or passed your limit that your body should weight. My number is 225 lbs. Ive been under that weight for 6 months and have recently took time off and have eaten everything I shouldnt have and its back again .( pizza, candy bars, CHOCOLATE,) in moderation is ok but I went nuts and weight 228 and now have that problem again. I've also used something called Probotics that puts in good bacteria into you colon and it works well. So in the end with me its a combination of being lactose intoleratent which I never though I was until I was 35 and poor dieting. I 6'1" and have never been above 190 until I was 32. that is when it started for me. I hope this helps.
Leakage problem solved!
Hi all,
I had all the symptoms described on this site. What I want to tell you is that I have solved my problem and it might help someone else. It is a bit of a long story so please be patient and read on.
I am 50+ years old and have had a very active and overall healthy life. A couple years ago I started experiencing anal leakage problems. It was driving me crazy! I would wipe and then the next time I went to the bathroom even when all I had to do is pee, I would have to stop in a stall and wipe again. It was always the same, I was wiping like I hadn’t done it the first time! I just couldn’t understand what was going on.
About the same time I was also having quite a bit of joint pain. Being active all my life I assumed my joints were retaliating for a lifetime of abuse. Over the course of the next year and a half I went to physical therapy, had numerous cortisone shots, X-rays, and MRI’s all in a futile attempt to find the cause of the joint issues. None of it was resolving the joint pain. For example I would get a cortisone shot, and the pain would go away for a period of time, just to return again. In a last ditch attempt to see if there was another source of the joint problems my Dr had me do a saliva test that found my adrenal system was basically flat lined. What this meant for the joint pain is that my body was not producing cortisone on its own. So my body would not fight off inflammation in the joints.
“Adrenal Fatigue” is the term. There are other terms used as well and I won’t elaborate on that further here. Ultimately what happened is several Dr’s started looking for the cause of the adrenal problem. In the process I was given blood tests for food allergies. The thought was that allergies may be contributing to excess strain on the adrenal system. The blood tests came up with a list of food sensitivities too numerous to list here but some of the worst include Gluten, Soy, Rice, and Pork.
I was put on a food sensitivity elimination diet. I was told to eliminate from my diet anything that was on my moderate and severe sensitivity list and avoid if at all possible anything on the mild sensitivity list. I was to do this for a minimum of 4-6 months before attempting to add anything back into my diet. Most of my problems have gone away including other problems like chronic headaches which I have suffered from most of my life.
THE KEY THING TO NOTE IS the anal leakage stopped almost right away when I went on the elimination diet! The food allergies were the obvious cause of the leakage problem. I highly recommend you have tests done, or at the minimum try an elimination diet on your own. You have to be diligent. Read every food label. You have to eliminate the allergens you are sensitive to from everything you eat. Living gluten and, or, allergy free is difficult, it is not convenient, and it can be expensive only buying foods you can tolerate. However the benefits seem to outweigh the downside.
Those of you that are younger should give thought to your food intake. If you find you have food sensitivities, then the sooner you can eliminate them from your diet the better. The rest of your life will be healthier and happier for it.
Elimination of food allergies may not be the solution for all of you, but if I can save even a few of you, years worth of Dr Visits to find a solution then this was worth the time to write. Good luck to you all.

Well, I haven't read all of the posts, but I do have a solution for you, works for me anyway.
I found that if I take 2 heaping teaspoons of additional fiber in a glass of water, my problem
is solved. I use a generic brand called equate ( same as metamucil ) but much cheaper.
The contents are psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid, 100% natural psyllium husk fiber. I don't
know exactly what it is, but it works. I wish I could do something that would correct the
problem permanently without using this stuff.
I have had the same problem. Just had a rectal exam from my doctor, and he diagnosed an anal fissure. I now apply a prescribed cream to my anus about 3 times a day, and have been taking miralax to regulate my bowel movements, as well as soften them up. We'll see what happens.
I am a man in his 60s who is desperate for help. have read through all the posts and I am surprised to find that many suffer from the same or similar problem to me. I have not known anyone before who has the same problem, which is probably because many are to embarrassed to speak about it.
There appears to be two problems here, one is the leaking of a fish smelly liquid or paste, the other - and this is the one I have suffered for the last 7 yrs - is a leakage of brown stool following a bowel movement, with difficulty in cleansing. I sometimes use a ful toilet roll in the next hour following bowel movement trying to get clean, and if I have to walk or move about following a movement then I will almost certainly make my underpants unrecoverable. It would seem that the bowel or anus cannot completely eject all the matter, and so this leaks uncontrollably for up to an hour following movement.
I am desperate to find a cure. I agree with most posts on this topic that the medical profession does not appear to have an answer and indeed the two specialists I have visited have shown surprise at the symptoms. I too, have had the unpleasant tests, all to no avail. It does seem to me that this condition is not recognised and is consequently not investigated sufficiently to understand what is happening.
Could I please implore anyone in the medical profession who may read these posts, to realise that this is a very embarrassing and distressing condition which can limit severely a sufferer's working and social life ....and please HELP.
