Thank goodness it isn't just me!!!!!!!!! I have had the most horrible odor, when I am on my period, since I got Paraguard, I have enough problems without that freaking me out. I can't take hormones at all though. Now I have weird discharge and blood. IDK but I'm going to see the doctor just to be sure. Worse, my boyfriend pointed out the weird discharge. I can't decide if I want to never speak to him out of mortification or marry him because he was so cool and thoughtful about telling me. Right now I'm mostly mortified. I don't have an STD, I know that. But, what is up? I do not know. Can't wait to see the doctor! Have to wait for them to call me back to make the appointment.

Okay, I just got the copper IUD September 2 it is now September 12...>>> 10 <<< days! I have a gross thick yellow discharge, I am starting to notice a gross smell when I pee and take my panties off to shower. I know it's not an STD because I was tested for them. I did have Bv and Yi before the IUD. Although, I don't believe the Yi went away. I was given flagyl and told to take otc meds for YI...did them both together and YI still feels like it's here after the IUD was inserted. Idk what to do. I have just recently gotten rid of the cramping, stabbing pain that had me in tears from the IUD being put in.

Thank god for this forum!!

I was 22 when i opted out of hormonal birthcontrol and got a copper IUD Multiload. I didn't have any babies yet but according to my GP this wasn't an issue. Placing the copper IUD was a hell that lasted a full hour. Finally she managed to place it and i had some serious discomfort for the rest of the day. My periods got worse but i was prepared for it. I had the copper IUD in for 4 year and i was completely happy with it. I didn't experience any side effects or nasties.

I removed the IUD and it was a year later i decided to go for another copper IUD. Again the Multiload. Only this time around i went to the gynocologist. Placing was alot better. Still painful but it only took 5 minutes. In the following weeks i experienced some slighty weird discharge and overall the iUD felt off. I contacted the gyno and she told me everything was fine and my body needed to adjust. A month later i went to my GP and checked if it was still placed in the right posision. This apperently was the case.

Over the next months i started to get a funny smell down there. Only on certain times through the month. Not when i was menstuating but after and inbetween mentruations. The smell became so foul, i try to dicribe it: Yukkie strong smelled a bit like metal and really really disgusting!! After a year i felt so imbarresed that i started googling and only found this forum.

Because of the previous posts i decided to go to my GP again. He took a swab and last week i got the results back: no STDs, fungus and bacterias. I got rid of the IUD that same day. Medical term for what i had was: Sterile infection of the uterus lining.

Apparently it is possible for a IUD to chronically irritate the lining of the uterus without any nasties such as bacterias and fungus.

There aren't any alternatives for homone and IUD free birthcontrol. So i decited on fertillity tracking and maybe i'll buy a lady-comp.

Smelling as bad as i did and others at this forum isn't healty. Unfortunately there isn't alot of awareness about this problem. I'm so gratefull to the other ladies for posting their stories here. It helped me so much and thats why i decided to share my story to help future women understand that these issues can happen and there is something you can do about it!

This has been the best response (on here) to the guest's question. I am in the same boat as u and being in tune with my body and knowing the difference in products used (& those not recommended for use), as well as dr's recommendations I've concluded that its the IUD. Since i don't have cycles anymore i believe it is a build up of the blood not naturally being released.

Yup girls it is most deffinatlythe iud. I had this happen about 3 years and 8 months after having merina implanted. It was an extremunpleastant mell coming deep from within my lady parts.. my husband insisted I see my obgyn.. I've had yeast infections , bv, and u t I more frequently since it was installed but never an odor.. I'm used take being sent less... down there so I checked in with my Dr. And to my surpriseshe said my cookie was normal and healthy she prescribedme anti biotics which helped the days I took them.. after that it was back to the bad breath of my vigina lol so I've made an appointmentt have my iud removed.Because of this smell I'm concerninga differenttype of birth cotrol. Its nice not to bleed and I'll miss that. Part but I won't miss the smell or embarrassment.
hope this helps

I have had my copper IUD in for about 2 years now and never had a problem until I began seeing my new bf. we notice the smell during sex mostly... It is so embarassing I am considering taking it out also. Thanks to this site I can confirm it's the iud. Odd though it was only through mine and his chemistry and not with my previous bf.

The copper IUD causes the same issues. If it's leading you to not want to go to work why not have it removed? That seems a bit extreme for an easily fixable problem.

I have had my Paragard in for 2 week and since then my boyfriend and i have had sex once to which he ejaculated inside my vagina. A few days later i realized this very strange odor. I have all types of vagina odor eliminator (eve) but they are not working. Yesterday I was sitting on the couch and my boyfriend stated that he smells something. He bend down and smelled my vagina.....i was embarrassed because that was where the smell was coming from. I don't know what to do. He said it smells like copper....i am very conscious. I feel dirty and nasty. I am always in the bathroom trying to wash up to mask the smell. My boyfriend think I should remove it.....what to do? I plan on calling the doctor tomorrow to see what she recommend.

I had my IUD for just over a year now & the smell is Still There. I've always had bad eating problems (chips, soda, junk food, the whole works) but I've never had a smell until after I had the IUD inserted. I've treated my vagina the same as I do now & still never had an odor. I'm going to try & change my eating habits & how well I take care of my vagina & if it doesn't work this IUD thing needs to go! Lol

Take it out and it will be gone in a day. Happened to me too. Switched to oral BC and no more issues.
