Interesting thread. 47 year old male, I should lose 15 pounds but otherwise good health. Like so many here, I've had non-vertigo lightheadedness for over a year. I just feel weird, like I'm about to faint but have not. It's strange that for some of you, driving makes it better. For me, driving makes it worse.

For those of you with genuine room-spinning vertigo and 'ear fullness,' investigate Meniere's Disease, which my sister suffers from. I don't have any answers for my own condition, but after I see a neurologist I'll let this group know. I'm also going to cut back on the alcohol, I have a drink every a day.

Nice to know I'm not alone, but this sure is disconcerting when I've never been sick in my life. Thanks for listening!

I've got the same problem. It's not making me feel any better to see that there are so many others with it and with no solution to it. It's making me a little bit less careful as a responsible person. Today, I started driving at a cross light even though the light hadn't turned green yet, all because I somehow "thought" it had turned green....until the cars behind me started honking at me, I realized that it hadn't yet turned!! These kindo f silly misstakes seam to become more of a pattern for me ever since I started feeling lightheaded and dizziness. They come over me every now and then. I started taking vitamins with lots of iron and vitamin B, zink.....for a while I thought they were making me better, until a week later and I'm back to where I started with the constant feeling of beeing a little "drunk". It's so frustrating because I feel like I can't really trust myself with work or even people or places. Hope all of you who are getting tests done keep writing your findings. I'm more than curious to know who it went for you. I get back my blood tests on friday! I can't wait! And HOPING they will find something so that it doesn't loose itself into an endless search for a problem that is imposible to find!

Lightheadness it can be caused by three things. High blood pressure, that occurs from too much coffee, unhealth eating or smoking or because of alchohol the consumption which lowers the blood temprature temporarily and it raises it next day. Ot it can be from vision problem because you might need glasses. Also anxiety and panic attacks can cause it, thinking "something is wrong with me?", did my time come? Do i smoke too much? Do i have an incurable disease? All these thoughs raise the heartbeats and blood pressure so it's causing lightheadness. Garlic helps a lot to lower blood pressure, try to add more salads into your nutrition, drink only one coffee a day. For those of you who are planning to quit smoking don't drink coffee at all. Swap it with hearbal teas. Each time you wanna smoke drink herbal tea. Sage is really good and anti-cancer if that is what you worry about. And most of all, change a mindset and start to excersise daily instead of sitting home on the PC drinking smoking or having negative thoughts. Negative thoughts cause high blood pressure. If you are lazy start with a simple walk in the park for 40 min or drive somewere where are not many people if people cause you stress and start walking everyday and once your body starts to get use to it pick up the pace. Push your self to complete the 40min walk daily even if you are bored to go for a walk. Pushing your self to walk by force will help you change bad habits as smoking and unhealthy eating. For alchohol drinkers try to stop it and start drinking thyme tea. (Thyme herb in boiled water. The more fresh the better.) Do not get to temptation to drink alchohol or smoke after the walk. Have a herbal tea instead or something nice. Its ok to eat but avoid the over greasy stuff and walk everyday. Your daily walking should be your walking and don't let anything interupt your schedule for "ANY" reason. Try not to think to much about your financial issues because they worsten stress to your body. Stop worrying, have a nice bath and listen to slow music. Avoid watching TV programs that cause emotional overload or stress such as commercials, soap-operas.Excercise will improve your health and your lightheadness will start to dissapear. If it insists you must quit smoking. Its better to die while exerscising out in nature than in a small hospital room. Think about it...

One thing that can cause lightheadness is poor posture and holding your head forward from working at a computer all day. As this article states:

"Bending the spine forward pinches vertebrae closer in front and farther apart in back, creating unequal pressure that over time, wedges and squeezes discs rearward and outward, like squeezing a tube of toothpaste."

http://www.healthline.com/health-blogs/fitness-fixer/vertebral-artery-compression-dizziness-discs-and-forward-head

This puts pressure on nerves and can also reduce oxygen to the brain.

Also, if anyone is taking a magnesium citrate supplement, this could also cause lightheadeness.

I learned that personally. After I quit taking Magnesium Citrate and started watching my posture my lightheadedness went away.

I have been experiencing the same thing. I had an anxiety attack about a month in a half ago and a few symptoms of anxiety here and there after the attack. But the lightheaded feeling is really annoying and nobody is telling me anything to help. What are you thinking?

Another problem could very well be how much people here are starring at monitor screens up close all day long. Starring at a monitor screen all day up close causes neurological issues involved in processing images into electrical signals that go to the brain. By starring at monitors up close for several hours, the eyes have to repeatedly track vertically and horizontally up close in a very small area for too long. The lens inside the eyes adjusts to focus on the close target for too long. Each eye turns inward to focus and the pupil constricts. Muscles are involved in this process that get fatigued.

I do these things that have helped me with dizziness:

1. I repeatedly turn OFF my work monitor when not using it for work so I am not tempted to waste time serfing the net

2. I take breaks every 30 minutes when using pc at work

3. I make sure all monitors at home and work are far enough back and at lower bright and contrast

4. I do neck strtching exercises during the day

5.I try to keep good posture with my head and shoulders back

Here is another point that everyone should consider. Inner ear issues.

Inner ear problems are notorious for causing all sorts of issues such as vertigo, dizziness, lightheadness, and anxiety. Try some Dramamine (less drowsy formula that has Meclizine) and see if your dizziness and lightheadness gets any better.

Also, maintain good posture, get good sleep on a comfortable pillow that keeps your neck aligned, and do some neck stretches that stretch the sternocleidomastoid muscles. When these muscles are strained or shortened, problems are referred to the head, neck, ears, eyes, nose and throat. The astonishing laundry-list of pain and dysfunction includes severe dizziness and other neurological symptoms.

EVERYTHING is related in the head; eyes, ears, muscles, nerves, everything. Eye strain, poor posture, too much computing for long periods of time, and inner ear issues could all be working together to cause constant lightheadedness and dizziness.

Inner ear problems can even cause anxiety. Dr. Harold Levinson has written an excellent book on how inner ear problems can cause anxiety called "Phobia Free."

Veeday, my lightheadedness started right after I had an anxiety/panic attack. That was almost two years ago. The symptoms slowly started going away (very slowly). I used to exercise and still did after my anxiety attack, but in the past 6 months I have really stepped it up and watching my diet and calorie intake very closely. So I lost 25 lbs, but at the same time noticed that I haven't had a single occurrence of this lightheadedness in over 4 months. I don't know if this is related, but healthy eating, bringing your weight down (if your BMI is not in the green zone), and exercising surely can't hurt and may be the solution.

I know a lot of people say that they cannot exercise because of their lightheadedness, but I pushed myself through it and it was ok. But that's me, and maybe it doesn't apply to everyone. Just a suggestion, though.

Exercise seems the best way to go. I've had slight lightheadedness feelings for about 10 years now. On and off during most of those years. Last 4 years its with me everyday. It's much worse at 'that time of the month' and way, way worse if I have had even one glass of alcohol. Next day I'm too c**p to drive even. Feel slightly panicky if I go over 50kph in the car. Choose not to drive if it's like that. This has all lead to me not driving far from home, avoiding traffic lights. Don't like to feel trapped in traffic, as I once got so lightheaded I had a major panic attack..........never again. I exercise, avoid alcolhol, and except this is my lot with only driving to local shop and back. Given up work.

I find I can handle speeds of 50 to 60 kph. ...but not anything more. Therefore avoid main traffic.....eg highways.. safer to catch a bus. I used to have this lightheadedness come for a few days, then disapear completely, and be able to drive any speed. For years this went on. Now it seems to be permanent. I potter around local area to shop etc, but no further.

I appreciate your feedback but I have had this Lightheadedness for over 5 years now and even though at times it seems to not be as bad, it never went away and I spent about $30,000 trying to figure out what it was. So Im not sure you had the same thing.

HOWEVER I WILL SHARE MY 5 YEAR EXPERIENCE

started when I was 22 and now im 27.
It was pretty bad for a year without knowing what to do. My nuralogist suggested Zoloft to me but I wouldnt take it, he kept suggesting it but I refused. So Because of my anxiety and this lightheadedness I got very depressed, I was even suicidal. I had just had trouble going through with it because I felt so bad for my 2 younger sisters if I did it. Anyways, I was weak and not caring about anything anymore so I said fine ill take it. After a few months It completely changed my life, I never new this before but I must have been depressed and had a bad anxiety problem most of my life because I never felt so normal and stable. I even started my own business its called ZooGue and It has done extremely well. Yes I am still lightheaded but it is tolerable.

I am very convinced it has to do with anxiety, I notice that whenever I am in a situation where it causes me anxiety I can tell my lightheadedness gets worse and if I start to worry and think about it, then it gets even worse. But when I am alone in my room I can tell I am the least lightheaded because I am not in any kind of anxiety causing environment.

Even though I still carry this crappy lightheadedness with me still to this day I can say that Zoloft has made me feel more normal than ever before and life is great.

Btw I did alot of research and found that stress and anxiety deteriorates part of your brain. And Zoloft balances your brains chemicals so your anxiety and stress decrease allowing your brain to repair itself.

I was sooo against antidepressants I almost killed myself before giving them a chance, but now I realize how VERY wrong I was and that they not only saved my life but made my life better.

TimAng, did you find that Zoloft had any emotional side-effects (e.g. feeling too emotionally balanced with neither highs nor lows)?
