Hi. I notice while I'm in bed (laying in all positions) a wheezing or gurgling sound when I exhale. Anyone familiar with this?

This all sounds like post nasal drip. I know when you think of PND you think of something relatively benign and can't possibly be the problem. But infact PND can cause all these symptons  you guys are descriping. When you lie down, the mucus drips down the back of your throat, causes a wicked tickle, makes you cough. If this happens while you are sleeping , the mucus build up in your bronchs, lungs and chest, and you get the gurgle, weezing and sensation of water in your lungs. You need a corticosteriod nasal spray to clear out your sinus and this will stop.
Wondering what you have found out about your symtoms? I to have the same as you and need to make a appt to figure this out.
I have the same thing!!!!
8/19/12A few months ago I took Zithromax to get rid of a nasty cough. After it was gone I would still cough on occasion. I would wake up at night after hearing a wheezing noise. It went away, and just a few days ago it came back. I am going to call a pulmonary doctor Monday. I'm so nervous about this.
i am very worried about my partner who i have noticed while laying down asleep has exact same symptoms gradually getting worse. he is 47 ex pro footballer looks fit and good for his age BUT he smokes
I have been sick since July with cough and cold symptoms. Never went away have been to my medical dr. and pulmonary dr. They said it takes time to heal. I have a wheez also when i exhale it sounds like a whistle and keeps me up all night. I am very fustrate and can't get any answers. I had a chest x-ray that came back fine. I was put on predisone and had a reaction to it, and a ihailer that's not working so if any one has a remedy for this it will help.
I have the same symptoms after a horrible ear infection. The ears still ich. The wheezing starts at 2 in the am after coughing for an hours it finally goes away. I blamed it on smoking cut back alot but it never goes away. I don't know what this is.
I had the same symptoms for several months and finally started investigating it with a doctor. After working through inhalers, etc. he had me see a cardiologist and have a Echocardiogram. They found I had an enlarged heart. They quickly did a catherization and found a 90+ percentage blockage in one artery and 50+% blockage in another, I also was only putting out 20% of the blood in the heart during a contraction. A stent was installed in the 90+ % blocked artery and started on heart medication for the rest. Three months later I had a pacemaker/defibulator installed as insurance against possible heart attacks. Get it checked by a cardiologist.
What was the out come to your problem as I have suffered with the same symptoms
Look into LPR
Ok so what if i wheeze and im not sick or haven't been sick? It just started happening
I have the same symptoms where my lungs are generally clear during the day and I wheeze while exhaling, but only when lying down.  My doctor says that this is caused by a form of allergy induced asthma - also called reactive airway disease.  I occasionally have tight chest and trouble breathing if I go running or exercise outdoors.  I have never really had allergies, but a few years ago I started to get sinus infections that would occur every 6 months or so.  I currently take Zyrtec on a daily basis to help with the allergies and I use a prescribed nasal inhaler which is a generic for of Flonase.  This has cured my sinus problems, but I have started to wheeze more frequently this fall.  I now have a Proventil inhaler that I use before bed and when my wheezing wakes me up at 5 am.  This seems to help and some nights are worse then others, but I haven't determined what helps to keep it to a minimum.  Finally, I took an Immunocap blood test to determine what I might be allergic to, but it came up showing not reaction.  I think that I will visit an allergist next and maybe have a more specific prick test done to see if there is anything that I react to.  I would really love to find a way to keep from wheezing on a permanent basis.  Please post if anyone has any other information relating to this.
I also have the wheezing in the throat only when I lay down I went to the hospital last night and my lungs were clear they said I have an upper respiratory infection they had given me an inhaler seems to help a bit but I still have the wheezing and the cough.
i have been expiriencing the same thing ,i had a seriou flu infection with chest conjestion. The doctor ,took exray ,was cleared ,then was prescribed inhalers.. when i work up in the morning the wheezing is quiet bad or when i lye down, and some time the more i think of it it intensifies.i think second opinion is the key ,because the doctors seem not to sure
I have been having a wheezing, only when I lay down, I do not cough very often, but when i do cough, it comes up foamy, not like a mucus. This is very strange to me, I have taken Azithromyacin, it didn't help. I look at WebMD no one had the exact symthoms as I do.  I do not smoke, never been diagnosed with Asthma, so this is very perplexing to me.
