Hi. I notice while I'm in bed (laying in all positions) a wheezing or gurgling sound when I exhale. Anyone familiar with this?

My doc presribed Advair. Works great
Get checked for Lyme disease, but first take cats claw or other "anti Lyme" herb for a couple months. The lyme test actually just checks for antibodies and even if you do have Lyme you wont have antibodies unless your body has fought it some. Also since Lyme is opportunistic the cultures in the flu shot could have absolutely triggered it. Lyme disease is highly controversial with many physicians insisting its nearly an infection that lasts a few weeks and clears with antibiotics. Any Lyme literate MD will tell you that's not true and your symptoms are exactly what Lyme is famous for: a bit of everything. Good luck!

Hi all.
I know this is an old thread but I had read it a couple of months ago after finding it with a Google search for the symptoms I had.
The reason I am posting now is because I got lucky and found a doctor that finally figured out my problem. I came to realize that practically no pulmonologists or respiratory professionals ever diagnose this properly due to a systemic, glaring omission in training.
I am not saying that anyone posting in this thread has what I had, buy my guess is that some might.
It turned out that I was suffering from black mold poisoning. I had moved to a different home about the same time all of this started but I never put two and two together. After a change in environment to new housing immediately, and direct detoxification over many months, I am symptom free.
I suggest a simple home mold testing is in order if you have any suspicions there is mold in your environment. Mold exposure is serious stuff. The respiratory issues will turn into lung cancer, and anyone with a cardiac history will end up with an enlarged heart. Mold is not only serious, but it will eventually kill you if your toxicity levels are high.
Hope this may help someone. Feel free to post any questions and I will be happy to answer if can.

This sounds almost exactly what has happened to me. About 21/2 months ago I also came down with some sort of sinus / bronchial infection. Went to the doctor and he prescribed a round of Clarithromycin, Proventil inhaler, Fluticasone nasal spray, and methyl Prednisone steroid tablets. My symptoms seemed to be completely gone after about 1 week. Then, about a week later, I developed the exact same symptoms I had two weeks earlier. It seemed the sinus / bronchial infection had returned. So I went back to the same doctor and he decided that since the Clarithromicin seemed to have worked the first time, that he would simply give me the same script for a bit longer time. This time I took the Clarithromycin for about a week. But guess what? It had absolutely no effect on my symptoms whatsoever. So I suffered for about another week not wanting to return to the doctor for a 3rd time in less than a month. But after about a week of coughing a general flu-like condition, and being tired and run down by the constant symptoms and by not being able to sleep well, I decided to visit a different doctor. After describing my symptoms and still having the nagging cough, she ordered a chest x-ray to see if anything visible could be causing the cough, and she ordered a blood test to see if perhaps I had the flu. Both came back negative. She decided to try a stronger antibiotic and prescribed Levaquin. It took the Levaquin for about 1 week and it had absolutely no effect. So I went back to the same doctor for the follow-up visit and she said that, since I had already taken the strongest antibiotic she would prescribe, that my infection must not be bacterial, and that since it must be viral that I would just have to let it run its course. So now I am nearly 3 months into this thing, I still have this nagging cough and post nasal drip. I still cough up small amounts of yellow or amber sputum (but my coughs are mostly non-productive). And probably the biggest discomfort of all is the wheezing and gurgling I experience when I lie down to sleep. It absolutely ruins my ability to sleep comfortably and I usually get up 2-3 times in the wee hours of the morning and just sit so that I can rest comfortably. I get very little sleep nowadays due to these symptoms, and my nagging cough, post nasal drip, and the wheezing / gurgling still persist even nearly 3 months after the initial infection occurred. I am absolutely worn out from this experience.
Well gang, add me to the club. I got a sinus infection, about 3 months ago, and was treated for that with the Zpack knock off, which seemed to work, but I was left with a feeling of wanting to take a deep breath often, like I was not getting enough air into my lungs. I went to the ER and they diagnosed it bronchitis. They gave me another Zpack knock off and a breathing treatment. Felt ok for one day. Still have the wheezing weird sounds at night. Starts about 6pm and lasts for 12hrs....thank goodness I eventually fall asleep after coughing for an hour of so, so I can make it through the next day at work. Same thing from the GP lungs clear, take some OTC meds for coughing and see me in a month. Something wrong here and it isn't getting better. If I find the fix will pass it on…the 12 hr Delsym cough medicine does make the cough better, but does nothing for that weird wheezing. If I find the fix, will pass it on…
I am 67 year old healthy male. I have the wheezing when trying to sleep on exhale only I thought I was alone.
very similar symptoms: started a week ago in middle of the night, suddenly, then 4 days of intermittent fever & diarrhea with increasing shortness of breath. now, can't get a full breath, very hard to breathe at all when up walking around, & exhaling when lying down produces a wheeze at the end that is loud enough to wake me up and often is in rhythm with my heartbeat. sounds like a handful of tiny aliens screaming out of my mouth. others can hear it, so i'm not imagining, but dr. hears nothing (when i'm sitting up right, of course) in my lungs or heart, EKG normal. chest xray today, we'll see.
This just happen to me and its happening right now. Dr. Said its pluerasy. Fluid in lungs cause by siccness... it feels like the whole left side of my body is num at times and I can't breathe I am 20 I play sports everyday and work. This just came about.... I can't get rid of it no meds and no dr.s nothing works
For EVERYONE, 80% chance it's Walking Pneumonia/A respiratory infection
After a week of this crap, I'm ready to get in to see the doctor... How you can manage to survive 5 months and not care to figure out what it is sooner is beyond me. Lol
Could be thyroid (goiter) problems.
I awake at 1:30 or 2;00 am with sweat all around my neck and chest , just wet every night . I ALSO cough up bloody mucus and wheezing , i've been doing this for seven years and the doctors don't know why. I take symbicort, abuteral ,advair, and spriva, none of it helps. I don't smoke , but I am a welder for 34 years. I think the smoke and fumes have gotten to my lungs. I WHEEZE EVERYDAY, MORNING AND NIGHT. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME SOMETHING???
Hi there,
This is the first time I've ever posted on a topic but after reading I felt it like I must. I have similar issues.
- Jan, Feb, March 2013 was very sick. Had a chestsinus infection that wouldn't quit. Tight chest, felt difficult to breathe, coughing up a lot of phlegm (clear, yellow, brown), sever wheezing cough, irritated my asthma, night sweats, sore throat, fever onoff etc etc. was diagnosed as Bronchitis irritating my asthma from a viral infection as anti-biotics did nothing.
- Was so sick I started to stop smoking (instead of everyday, maybe only one evening a week and then less) which probly didn't help straight away as you quite often get sick before you get better when quitting
- Never really cleared up. Now I still feel tight in the chest, I have the gurglewheeze at the end of my exhale when I lie down at night, I have been having severe onoff night sweats since 2012. I cough up a lot of nasty stuff including brown spotted stuff & blood sometimes amongst other colours. I sometimes have a small fever and sore throat. I sometimes have burning in my throat (which i think is acid reflux). The centre of my chest hurts more days than not.
- This has been going on for 9 months now.
Been seeing the lung specialist throughout and it has been monitored. He has told me it is definitely not lung cancer or any form of COPD, I am not convinced. CT Scan of chest clear, Lung function tests ok. One done in March the other this month (September) and although my March one showed slight hyperinflation this one he said was all good (he said the last one was good too though). I assume the slight hyperinflation was due to me being sick at the time.
Upon searching for an answer we did a CT Scan of my head and I was sent off to an Ear, throat, nose doc. He found a multitude of problems including swelling, blockages of nasal passages, congenital bone defect allowing my right nasal cavity to collect crap and stay blocked etc etc. Now although neither my lung specialist or ETN will guarantee me this is the cause of my all my symptoms above they both think it is a strong possibility . They say quite often when your upper respiratory system is not in good working order (throat, nose etc) it can quite severely affect the lower respiratory system (lungs). I have now been booked in for surgery to clear out my nose. Trim a few bones and tissue back, straighten the septum, clear the crap out etc. 16 days away (10th October).
I am convinced I have something more serious like COPD. I am very ***ing nervous. Everyday is a struggle. I'm just waiting for the surgery and we will see what happens after that. Thinking maybe I pushed too hard, too much smoking and unhealthy living taking it's toll perhaps??
Bit of my history. 31 yr Australian Male, 110kg (solid build with a gut, not obese), asthmatic, nut allergies, bad hayfeaver sufferer with all the usual triggers and then some. Been to hospital many times pre 20's. Many ICU admissions, was a sick kid with my asthma so I am experienced with lungs problems. Heavy smoker but have but stopped this year (worst thing I ever did was smoke). Suffered chest infections before. Spring now so hayfeaver is kicking in a not helping the situation.
ANY FEEDBACK ON MY POST WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Also can any of the older posters here let us know if they have found fixes and how they are going currently. I will post here again in a couple of weeks after my surgery and let everyone know the outcome.
Take care and good luck to all with their issues....
I just a week ago started with these same symptoms. It started for me as a Ragweed pollen issue, causing post nasal drip. My usual antihistamine, Generic Claritin didn't stop it, even double dosing, which my allergist approved. The only thing to stop the PND is Veramyst Nasal Spray. It stops it quick and lasts for hours. Reapply as needed. I use the Mucinex DM 4 times a day to keep the ooze in my lungs loose so I can cough out gobs of it. Drinking lots of water is key. Eat lots of fresh fruits to build your immune system. Eat smart. Avoid alcohol. Avoid dairy, as this thickens mucus, also avoid cold drinks, they thicken mucus too. A hot coffee or tea or soup is best. Remember, if you're upright, the mucus has to travel uphill. Try lying down, breathe deeply, get the mucus rattling then cough HARD! Lying on your side can help, or on your stomach, hanging over the end of your bed with your butt elevated on pillows. Gravity will help you clear it out, but it may take days to get it all. Make sure you've hydrated with lots of water, use plain Mucinex (because you want to cough) 30 minutes before you do this. Place a towel on the floor to catch the mucus, then start breathing deeply and quickly to get the mucus moving, then cough HARD several times if necessary. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS
i have the same problem like you, plese give me advice what to do IF YOU HAVE any idea? maggie
Hello there
Since we all same symptoms there must be a source that made us this way, I've had plenty of colds and flus in my live but never such an outcome this is something else. I've noticed this started with me shortly after I used D EARTH to fight roaches I sprayed that powder throughout entire apartment knowing that since it's a natural and harm free product it would cause any problems, not that I'm saying that it's happening because of D EARTH but just want to share what I think that caused it since it said on package do not inhale. May be this way we can find out one thing we ALL have been exposed to and than it will be easier to find solution once the source of the problem recognized. Good luck all
