white chunks on tonsils

I have been experiencing a recurrence of white chunks on my tonsils. They often cause discomfort to me. Also their texture resembles the white part of a popcorn kernel. I wonder what those white chunks are caused by. Do they maybe indicate some serious illness?

You can also use your middle finger to apply pressure and pop them out.
I got my tonsils removed 5 days ago for this very reason. Tried getting them done years ago but my doctor didn't even know what tonsilloliths were! This past year I have been able to remove up to 20 of these a day! If I left it a week and particularly after drinking alcohol I could easily remove about 50 quite large ones in one go. I started making a video diary which I took to an ENT clinic a year ago in desperation as ammo to get them out. The surgeon reluctantly agreed and told me I'd have the op within 3 months. I never heard anything but then with planning my wedding kind of put it to the back of my mind. 6 weeks ago my close friends sat me down to tell me that my breath had got really bad and some aquaintancesof ours who didn't know of my problem had made some nasty comments. As you can imagine I was devastated. I phoned the hospital who couldn't explain why I hadn't been sent for my op. It seems I had got lost in the system. Had them out on fri and despite unbearable pain and also a very scary episode where I had a bad bleed I am hopeful that within two weeks I will be rid of this problem forever and I can get my confidence back. Don't suffer, and make your doctors listen to you!!!
I get these tonsil stones all the time too. I'm only 18, but I have enormous tonsils. I'm still getting over a case of tonsillitis but today I noticed that I had the stones in my right tonsil again (that's where I usually get them). Now all of the other times that I've found them in my throat I've had to leave them because the first time I tried removing them with tweezers, I ended up making my tonsils bleed--not a good thing to do. But tonight, I got the idea to look it up online and found this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonsilloliths (I know, wikipedia isn't a marvelous source but it helped!). It gives a few ideas on how to treat the stones without resorting to surgery. All I had to do was use a Q-tip--you put it gently under your tonsil and push up and to the front of your mouth and the stone pops right on out! It's a lot safer than the stylus for a DS, welded tweezers or toothpicks taped together. I hope this information helps you all as well as it helped me. :D
I kept having bad breath and then one day I felt something in my throat.I went to look and I had a white clump that was really gross in the little hole on my left tonsil.I removed it and THAT was the bad breath! I was relieved to find the cause but now I have to worry with keeping my tonsil clean...Fresh breath, life is good!
i have the same exact thing that you have. im getting surgery to get my tonsils removed next month. i'd suggest you do the same.
i have the same white stuff coming from my throat. i know they are there because when i swallow i feel them. i sing and i was told that if i remove my tonsils i may not be able to sing as well as before is that true? i also heard that removing the tonsils will cause you to get infection such as the flu easily is that true too?
You can try a water pick as well to flush the tonsils. I am planning to see an ENT, however, because I get frequent tonsilitis due to this problem. I am hoping for a tonsillectomy, as painful as it may be... it will solve both problems.
My understanding is that the little pits do NOT cause tonsilitis. The fact that you get them is actually a wholly separate issue. I know it's hard to believe but that's what I understand it to be. Does that make any sense?
these are called tonsil stones...
Over the past month I have been having several problems with my throat. It was always sore, and was getting difficult to swallow. Just yesterday I was poking around with a q-tip, and I found these awful white chunks inside of the flaps of both my tonsils. There were three large white chucks on the right side and two medium chunks on the left. I pulled them all out, which caused my throat to be sensitive, but a while after, it felt better. For the first time in months, my throat did not hurt at all. I have recently had a CT scan to see if there are any other complications with my throat, of which I have not learned the results. I am praying that this is the only problem. These white chucks range from very soft to somewhat rigid, and they are very fowl smelling. When they touched my tongue, I had a horrible taste left in my mouth for hours. I have been researching non-stop and found that they do not often remove the tonsils, and doctors recommend that you gargle with warm salt water after EVERY meal if they become painful. I hope that this has helped. I will update regarding any other throat problems this may have!
I have the same exact thing theyre nasty whiteish yellow chunks that come out of your tonsils they smell worse than anything and they have been getting alot worse in the past few months i want medicine or my tonsils gone
I just found a white bump on my right tonsil hole. freaked me out i thought i had the cancer!! This is the first time it's occurd and when i pryd it out with a Qtip, i noticed the huge whole in my tonsil!! The hole is healing now, kind of like when they yank your tooth out.. is that normal?? I noticed everyone saying they will occur in the holes again but my hole is almost complety gone. This couldn't be infection could it?? I have another hole on the left side, i have never even noticed these befor!! Most of you are saying that they will just come back again and again, like i said it's the first time it's happened, should i get my tonsils yanked??? I'm going to gargle some peroxid and just pay attention to them but if it will only get worse what do i do to get rid of it??
Can msg cause this???
I hate tonsil stones, this morning i had 3 gigantic ones in my tonsil ! They were all .5 cm, how many can your tonsil hold??
Hi, I just want to let people know how I get them out of my tonsils. If you look at some of your kitchen utensils, some of them may have a loop at the end that you use to hang them up. I use the loop to push on my tonsils and the pressure pushes them right out. I had tried several other ways (spoon, popsicle stick) and the kitchen utensil loop has been the easiest and best. I happen to use our whisk. Hope this may help someone on here.
