white chunks on tonsils

I have been experiencing a recurrence of white chunks on my tonsils. They often cause discomfort to me. Also their texture resembles the white part of a popcorn kernel. I wonder what those white chunks are caused by. Do they maybe indicate some serious illness?

I get these, too, and I just take a toothpick and impale it and remove it or small knitting needle and push from the back of it to get it to pop out. Going to the d.r. for anit-biotics would be a large measure, as I try to home remedy as much as I can. I was raised to put a band aid on everything and know that too much anti-biotics can be harmful.

Hello everyone.. these white chunks are called tonsiloths ... If you take them out of your tonsils with a Qtip , you can see it has a texture like chewed up gum without the stickiness .. also it has a terrible odor .. and cause bad breath ... they are from food particles that get trapped in your throat when you eat food ... thus bacteria foor and create tonsiloths ... a way to help control it hopefully is by bushing and using mouthwash often .. every time after your eat ... i helps sometimes .. but i am getting my tonsils removed and this is one of the reasons ... i dont want bad breath!! and also my tonsils are huge ...

It's nice to know that I'm not the only one that experiences this. I first discovered I had tonsil stones a year ago when friends AND strangers started commenting on how bad my breath was. Once I scraped off the white stones my breath was normal again! Recently my sister started complaining that my breath smelled like "moth balls". I figured I had the stones again but couldn't see anything. I grabbed a flashlight and q-tips and started pushing on my tonsils. Lo and behold HUGE white and yellow balls started being pushed out of the holes in the back! It was disgusting! I developed an ulcer of some kind a few days after as I had irritated the tissue. I gargled with diluted hydrogen peroxide a few times a day and it cleared it up. I would gargle with this after you prode your tonsils to help prevent infection. It's also a great way to flush out your mouth everyday. Incorporate gargling H2O2 with your tooth brushing routine and it should help prevent the stones from coming back as quickly. I'm looking into getting my tonsils removed.

I used to have this problem when I was about 16-17, and then they up and went away. Tonight, 4 years later, I push out some of the biggest ones I've ever had. Now, the only change in my lifestyle that I can think of is that I was COMPLETELY avoiding fast food (like McDonalds/Jack in the Box) during that time up until just about a month ago. I started to eat junk food casually and here I am again. Go figure...

I found these white chunks in my tonsils too and i pulled it out with tweezers because it was as big as a bean. It smelled like dog poo and my tonsil started bleeding. Its so sore now.
I am 45 and discovered I had them when I was probably around 13 or so. After the teenage years it seems they became less common but I probably got them at least once a year or so, just knocked them off and it was done unless I had a bad cold. From my experience, it seems that when I have a bad cold coming on or some kind of upper respiratory infection they come right on back. Lately I have had a persistent caugh, post nasal drip and low and behold here come these damn cheese chunks again. I believe that they are partically the remnants of food as I have noticed that I get them if I eat crumbly bread or another example would be cake which can easily slide by your tonsils on the way down and get a few pieces stuck in those large crevices that those of us who share this condition all seem to have. So at 45 years old I have decided that the bad breath, the constant tonsil scraping and sore throats is just not worth keeping my tonsils anymore. Oh, and although I do believe that using H202 to gargle with will help in riding yourself of them and I do practice this method, I will say that I never used H202 until about a year ago as a gargle and rinse and now they are back when they were gone for at least a year or so. I believe they are a result of bacteria build up and the body trying to rid the body of same, more so than food deposits which got caught in the tonsil crevices. So in other words, they are a combination of both. On last thing, when I was a kid there was no internet so I thought I was a freak, this is more common than we realize. Personally, I am going to take care of this once and for all and get those tonsils removed, sooner the better.
I had my tonsils removed becoz of this problem 2 years ago now and thought they're gone forever. But nope they had to come back and ruin my life again:( I say that and I mean it coz I can taste and smell the damn thing all day long and I've developed a bad habit of picking on them with the tip of my tongue to try to pop them out! It just makes me involuntarily trying to fish these things out no matter what Im doing and I can't concentrate on anything or enjoy any moment in life:@ the problem is I know they r there, I can taste and smell them in the back of my throat but can't see them if I tried coz they r too deep now the tonsils are gone, and it drives me crazy wanting to get rid of them every minute of the day. Does anyone suffer the same after tonsillectomy and am I being obsessed with these buggers?!?!
my boyfriend has what sounds like this. it looks like a bunch of oatmeal stuck up on top of his tonsils. it looks gross! but his throat hurts him pretty bad and he had a really high fever last night. the fever is gone now but i dont know if it will come back...does this sound like the same thing or different?
:-|Well, ok im a teen and i have one that just occurred today, i felt it in my tonsils my mom said it was a soar and it would go away in about 3-5 days but i wanted to make sure so i looked it up and found out that other people (like you) were having the same problem. I eat a lot of junk food and stuff. So thats were it comes from. So the thing instead of picking them out (which will leave a big hole in your tonsils) so i dont reccomend taking them out it will just make more come out. i havent experienced the bad smell or breath YET.... But my mom said salt water with warm water before bed wil help kill the bacteria, also brushing your teeth after you eat and mouth wash Also from this white chunk i cant eat junk food that much anymore...she said whenever it goes away i can have a little junk food. I totally respect that as long as i dont have this white chunk again it irrates like rubbing against my tongue but doesnt hurt so thats good but i bet when i wake up tommrow i will get the bad smell i hope i cough it up naturally so it will be gone but i will still brush my teeth more. So tommorow i am going to carry around mints and gum to keep the smell out. i hope this helped i will keep this updated. Because i want to be a doctor when i grow up :-D
