My daughter is almost 6 and she has been having these pains for the past 6 months, sometimes every night and sometimes maybe once a week, she has had water tests etc at the doctors and everything comes back normal. We have been referred to a professor of gyneacology but this is another 2 months away. She is in absolute agony and always wakes in the night about 1am, she also suffers from eczema and i have noticed that wen she wakes with vaginal pain she is scratching her body all over and comes up with a rash which i assume is her eczema, can eczema be internal and could this be the problem? I will keep you informed after our visit to hospital.
Give her a dose of the Ovex Worming treatment. You have nothing to lose.
It's a terrible pain for them and she is so right describing it like a needle pain. Mt daughter describes it like a sea urchin up there. Really sharp, shooting pains which come in waves every few minutes. All gradually subsiding over an hour or two. Not outside the vaginal area, or around their bottoms, but up inside.
Other replies from people are describing totally different symptoms, which although I see are upsetting and painful, are not the same as what our girls experience.
I nver found any trace of a worm but I took the decision that it was better to treat it as if it is pinworms and hope for the best.
Good luck.
I cannot believe I have found this post! We are in UK. My 5 year old daughter has been suffering with the same symptoms on and off for the past 18 months or so. She goes to sleep around 7 or 7.30pm and at 10pm she is awake crying, writhing in agony & saying her front and back bottom are sore inside, trying to clutch the area. The front is occasionally red but the back never looks sore. It is ALWAYS, without fail all OK in the morning.
We don't have anyone else living with us so I could rule out abuse (thankfully). We have tried every cream for thrush there is (obviously Dr's favourite explanation) but nothing works. Baths help calm her down and sooth the soreness or she wants me to wipe the areas with a baby wipe and then I put cream on, give her a dose of Calpol and cuddle until she goes back to sleep. It usually takes about 20 mins to get her back to sleep.
A friend suggested it could be threadworm several months ago and I bought Ovex but never saw any sign of worms so didn't treat. After reading all your posts, I have got the packet out and will treat us both tomorrow no matter what - at least it will rule worms out once treated & if it happens again I can go from there. Will report!
Did you ever find out why she is having the pain. My 10yr old granddaughter has similar pain and no one has any answers. All tests come back okay. We don't know what else to do for her neither do the doctors
Most likely your children are not drinking enough water. Lack of water will cause these symptoms. Many will start to say, oh my child drinks enough as you want to try and defend them and yourself but the truth is most people do not drink enough water. Kids will play and do stuff until they are dehyrdrated and not know it. As one person posted she got it after caffeine, caffeine dehydrates exactly why you would have felt it. Now you say the kids aren't drinking caffeine but neither are theyd rinking enough water. Increase the water, don't make excuses why you can't and see the difference. If they have been dehydrated it can take a few months for the body to recover and they made need electrolytes to help.
The person who warned us not to assume that all these similar symptoms have the same cause is right on! For the same reason, we should never ridicule anyone else's analysis of the problem; although their analysis may be absurd for your particular situation, it could be right on for someone else.
That said, has everyone ruled out the possibility that their child has been sexually abused at any time? It's common for children to display symptoms of their abuse only when they feel safe, such as when they are in their own bed, or are at home with their parents, or after an abuser has left, even though they've seemed normal all day long, or even have seemed normal for days, weeks, or months after the abuse.
omigosh omigosh omigosh!!! what a relief to have found this...i have been dealing with this in my 10 yo daughter since nov. 2012 and was at a loss...and i too was frustrated with doctors not paying attention to this...i haven't read everything cause i was so excited after reading just some of the posts...and it sounds like so many of you have been suffering for a long time...i am so happy to have found this resource. thank you everyone for posting. now i can go about this more methodically and develop a plan to try and figure out the right course of action...unlike the doctors.
thank you!!!!

yes this is something i have considered as well...
I need to thank this forum. My 8 years old daughter has vaginal pain at night time since she was six year old. Initially she complained that her private part is itchy in the middle of night time (between 11pm to 2am). I didn't take it seriously as I thought she may not wash her private part thoroughly during her shower. It was on and off for a year, until one night, she complained about the sharp pain. It was too painful that she cannot even stand up. At that moment, I know she was not faking it, and it is real. That's how I started searching online and found this forum. I brought her to doctor on the next day. Doctor told me it is vaginal infection and prescribed anti-biotic to her. I have pointed to doctor that it might cause by pin/thread worm (I have read the form before attending to doctor appointment). The doctor told me that it is not possible as there is no itch on her anal area. So, my daughter took the anti-biotic, and it was not working. I tried to check my daughter for pin worm in the middle of night, and cannot see anything. However, I still I decided to go ahead with treating everyone in the family with the pinworm tablets. After the treatment, the problem gone for a while (3-6 months), then same thing happens again. I have repeated the treatment, it however keeps returning few months after the treatment. So I started to question whether this is due to pin worm or something else. Until 2 months ago, she woke up in the middle of night and started crying that her private part was hurting. I have grabbed the torch light and thoroughly examined her private part and found a grown pin worm alive and wriggly around in between her private part (outer area). I quickly pluck the worm out, the pain immediately disappeared. I treat my family again with the pinworm tablets on the next day. And again 2 weeks later hoping that we have killed all worms and eggs. Since then, there is no incident happened. So, for those out there with same symptom, it is likely to cause by pin worm if it only happens in the night time.
7 months ago I discovered this forum and posted our experiences. We used the Ovex worming treatment and all has been great. But last night at 8.30 the pain started again. She had gone to bed fine and came down in agony. Exactly as before. Writhing around in such pain, crying, tensing up every minute when the soreness shot through her. I was very calm as I knew it would pass - eventually. She took a paracetamol and a dose of Nurofen and had a hot water bottle. But it lasted and hour and a half. The pains very slowly subsided. She was crying and saying to me "what can I do?"
I had one dose of Ovex left and gave her that and bought more today. I think I might just dose her once every 3 or 4 months.
Couldn't see any worms 'up there' and when she did go back to sleep the last thing I wanted to do was disturb her to sloop again.
Such a horrible thing to experience.
It is a relief to see we are not alone! My 8 year old is also experiencing these pains, she had the first one during the day while we were walking it was so sharp and sever she couldn't walk, I put some Sudocrem on her vagina and this seems to help and the pain went away. She now gets the pains regularly in the evening/ night and the Sudocrem no longer seems to work. The doctor has given her some Canesten (clotrimazole) cream, so far it hasn't helped but we will keep trying for a week or so. My daughter has told me that the pain is "deep down inside her" not on the surface area, she also has constipation as many of the other little girls and she does not drink enough water, so I am going to really encourage her to increase her water intake. She also likes the idea of the probiotics (natural yogurt) everyday so we will do that too. I will also be looking into some other the other things mentioned e.g. Pin/thread worms.
Thanks you all so much for posting and I hope we can find a solution for all our little girls.
I'll get back and let you know how we go.

Hi, I posted quite a while ago about my daughter and her problem was threadworms. I treat both my kids every school holidays. I am in Australia so that means four times a year. Threadworm is extremely contagious and so easily passed. It is inevitable in my opinion that they will pick it up continually. Obviously some kids have no symptoms but our daughters seem to have a more severe reaction. I saw the threadworm by waiting for my daughter to be asleep in the night and shining a torch on her anus....they are such tiny thin threads that you first think it is just cloth fibre from clothing perhaps but then you will see them moving. Not nice but easily treated with medication. Best wishes Kylie
