I wonder if you had a fissure. Sounds like what my daughter has. It makes sense that a cream would help. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

I think this is pain from a different part of the body to what my daughter experiences, and from what I have read of most of the others. The pain my daughter has is internal. Her description of knives inside her or 'giving birth to a sea urchin' are all up inside. Creams and soothing lotions/oils make no difference.
Hopefully you have got to the root of your problem. It is so upsetting when they are in pain. I'm hoping the worming treatment has worked here, but who knows!

Thank goodness we are not alone! The same thing is happening with my 11 year old daughter. We've been blown off by Emerg twice, and our NP only did blood work. It came back completely normal. The spasms are so strong they wake her from her sleep (when she finally gets to sleep) I hope someone has some feedback!

Amen! I have researched the same things, and receive the same level of concern from our health care providers. I am having no luck coming up with answers either.

Hello ladies

My daughter has been having similar problems for nearly 2 years now and I have sought comfort and answers on this thread in the middle of the night on many occasions although I have never posted. Our GP has given us a possible diagnosis today which I'd like to share with you all incase it helps anyone...

The pain my daughter suffers from is as you all describe - waking in complete agony in the middle of the night, nothing helping although sometimes a bath seemed to ease it after a while. The pain was around her anus, sometimes around the vagina area but most often on her perenium. We looked into threadworms and, on one occasion, she did have them (I saw them one night) so she we treated her accordingly, she has also been treated for worms on 2 other occasions 'just incase' - you are willing to try anything to help get rid of this awful pain for them.

Yesterday I had to keep her off school as for the first time she awoke in the morning and was suffering with the pain during the day, so we were back at the GP today where we saw a different doctor. The Doctor thinks she may have a condition called Lichen Sclerosus which is rare in children. We are being referred to the hospital for further investigation and in the meantime she has been prescribed a canestan cream with steroids to try and help. I have googled the condition and one of the symptoms is white spots or patches around the bottom... my daughter does not have this although the skin around her perenium is quite shiny so please don't discount this if you can't see spots!

We did also see an alternative therapy practitioner about 6 months ago who wasnt sure what it was, but thought it could be thrush and did mention that my daughter had a low immune system. Again, to me, this fits with the Lichen Sclerosus diagnosis as it is thought to be an auto immune disease. Some of the articles I've read today say that in 2 out of 3 children the problem clears up when puberty kicks in which would make sense for those of you who have posted that you had it as children and it stopped during puberty.

We will wait and see if the cream helps and what the hospital say but I wanted to share this with you all to give you another avenue to explore. It is the worst thing in the world seeing your child in so much pain and feeling so helpless, and even doubting the pain being 'real'. I hope some of you get some answers soon xxx

Sounds very much like pinworms. Often ignored but very common. Over the counter treatments work great and a paste of crushes garlic cloves and Vaseline will ease the immediate symptoms like nothing else. Good luck!

HI there, did you find out why it was happening?

Thank you for posting this, I was able to figure out that my daughter had pinworms on the second night of her complaint. We received an extra and she is doing much better!

HI, We just went through this with my 6 year old daughter. We changed all her detergents to Perfume Free and ran all her sheets, towels, underwear through an extra rinse cycle with no detergent. We changed her bath soap to All Natural, and stopped giving her baths, only showers so she is not sitting in anything. We made her go to the bathroom more often. It has been about 4 weeks since we have been to the Urologist and she seems back to her old self.

Only found this discussion thread last night while trying to determine why our 5 year old daughter was in so much pain / stinging and we were totally unable to help her despite nurofen and calpol. It was her 4th or 5th such 'attack' in the past 2 years. Crying ++ for about 4 hours. After arming myself with a torch and having a good look at her anus and vagina I saw 2 tiny little thin white 'worms'. I managed to catch one using a tissue and, following someone else's idea on here, I stuck it on a piece of Sellotape. I was unable to catch the other as it disappeared quickly after I shone the torch. I feel so relieved that I found something, and hope that this IS the cause of the pain as it's easy to treat. Also put my 5 year old'smind at ease a litte as she understood what was causing the pain. We saw the GP this morning who prescribed a worming liquid medication for us all to take. Both our daughters have to have another does next wk. I have changed all the bedding, towels, pjs etc so hopefully will prevent re-infection occurring. GP advised us that worms in children is very common but was unable to tell us why it has only caused pain so infrequently. I forgot to ask the GP how long the medication takes to work, and whether I need to change the bedding and towels every day for the next couple of weeks. Any opinions from anyone? Thank you to whoever started this discussion and to all who have contributed in a constructive manner.

My 6 years old had few same episodes.. in her case it could be allergy to antibiotic /penicilin she was prescribed as this was happening when she was going through the virus infections/cold etc...we did examine the vagina and it was found red ish maybe lack of proper wash also...so wiped off with water and soap..and sudocream seems to be helping a bit  too...

If your getting really worried about this is to make sure she doesn't do it any more the problem with the her is she shouldn't be using toys like that with her body, because she is in a young age the problems of that are death and she may get really sore if she does that 3 or 2 times a week.

If she does that often pur those toys away but if I may say I have a question for you how did she get the toy (sex toy)?
