A friend bought me blush and I have no idea how to use it!

Just in case this wasn't obvious:

Apply blush after doing the rest of your makeup. I think it looks best if you do wear at least a BB cream and some eyebrow pencil.

Start from the apples of your cheeks, then gradually blend outwards. To do it properly, you do need a well lit space. The outer end of your blush can reach almost to your ears, but very faintly. Less is more. You want to be able to see it, but it shouldn't look like you've been playing with your mommy's makeup, LOL.

Hiya, if you're pretty much not into makeup blush is probably the best thing your friend could have bought you. I disagree that you need any kind of foundation or BB cream if your skin tone naturally looks good. It just adds a little bit of oomph to your face, makes it more alive as it were. If you have naturally really read cheeks that's a different matter of course, then you do need the whole lot... Yeah, what I do, I smile and then apply it outwards from the roundest part of my cheeks and it works well.

There are actually lots of different ways to apply brush depending on your face shape.

If you have a long face, apply it to your apples and then brush out toward your temples. If you have an oval face, stick to the apples only. For a round face, make it more bold with angles upwards like a triangle. Women with strong jaw lines benefit from blush applied to go straight out to the sides. This softens the face.

If you have never used blush before, I would suggest experimenting and finding out what your face shape is.

I did buy a brush for the blush. I am not very handy with it yet though I did try the blush out a few times and definitely like the color. I tried some of the tips that you gave, so thank you for replying to this thread, but I am not a pro yet. I find it very difficult to put an equal amount of blush on both cheeks and generally not to make the whole thing look horribly artificial, which is just not a look I am trying to achieve. Basically I want to look like me with a little bit of color on my face. So what am I doing wrong, please? I just kind of swipe the brush along the blush palette or whatever you would call that and then apply. Is that not good?

I'm pretty much the opposite of you by the looks of things. I honestly love makeup and have tried almost everything on the market! I do have very red cheeks (rosacea) and you are quite right that you don't want your blush to mimic that in any way. Just lightly touching the product with your brush, barely enough to pick it up, will do. Then go over your cheek and cheek bones once or twice, lightly! Don't rub it in until you look like your alcoholic grandpa or your angry neighbor!

I am sure using blush is on some "things to learn before you're 30" list somewhere. Oh well. I'm an odd one. My red cheeks don't "follow" the same pattern that people usually seem to use for blush and I don't want to look like a two-tone circus clown, which is worse than the alcoholic neighbor. Come to mention it, I saw a lady in town the other day who literally looked like... No, never mind, there are no words to describe that. Not what I want to look like, anyway. At least I know what not to do.

What are the advantages of making an account here? Considering that you obviously weren't able to enter your name when you replied directly to me, I think you have pretty much answered your own question there. All you need is to enter an email address, and it takes no more than a minute or so.

You know, you don't have to look like the lady who is apparently too fond of too much blush. That is easily avoided by not putting that much of it on your face. You will be OK. Be brave!
