To be someone who has experienced and gone through an abortion, i have to strongly disagree with you there. fair enough everyone has their own veiws blah blah, but the pain and suffering, emotionally and physically is bad enough without people like you critising the woman who have to make this decision, usually all by their selves. before i had to terminate my baby, i admit, i thought abortion was cruel and unnatural. but once your in the situation yourself, its a completly different story. i have had possibly the worst few months of my life, and im still not over it completly, but people like you, saying how you wish the woman who do this to their babies were dead, make this type of problem alot worse. would you say the same if you got yourself into this situation?
honestly i just think whoever feels that they need to get an abortion they have their own reason and just because some of you think you are all high and holy and say that you would never have an abortion.. well some people out there cant consider adoption because that means carrying the baby to full term and also telling their parents. some young women know if they tell their parents they wont live to even have the baby.. no joke. right now i am in a very difficult situation my bf and i are pregnant but i cant have this baby my father is very abusive and he swore on my mothers grave that if i had ever gotten pregnant at a young age he would put my in the ground. so i cant tell him. i cant leave and so i am choosing to have an abortion. you should not judge me for fearing my father. if i didn't have a crazy father than i would carry the baby to full term and give it up for adoption but i just cant. so do not judge what you do not know.
yes that is true that those things do prevent pregnancy, but they also dont kill the unborn baby inside of these women do they. if a women is not ready to have a baby then she should not have sex until she is ready. and i think that if you do have sex without using protection or something that will help prevent pregnancy and you get pregnant then you should have that baby. you shouldnt have been so stupid to have sex like that if you were concerned about having a baby. it is not the babies fault that you were careless. you should never kill an unborn baby unless it was medical problems, rape, or incest.
I would like to add just a bit of"2 cents" worth to the forum, if I may. FIRST OF ALL.. this information comes from a friend whom husband is a OBGYN....women generally do not know they are pregnant until they are passed their first missed period. Just some information (not condescending...ok) A "fetus" is FULLY formed at 10 weeks of gestation, but continues to grow larger. The life, wether it be 2 weeks or ten weeks is life. The baby has a heart, a formed spine, a brain, and ready to just grow.

Now, on the topic of rape. I personnaly know a young lady who was raped at the age of 15 years old. We did her pregnancy test together, and it was positive. We sat in silence and she smiles. She said "Mrs. I know this is going to be a difficult road to travel, and I know that it is going to be scary extremely at times, but this baby had N0 CH0ICE about how she was concieved, and i am not going to kill my baby. She has every right to live. I am going to raise her the best I can and fight for her. THis is going to be a tough road, but I know God will get me through it." I was speechless, nothing t0o say. She is now a strong young woman, doing EXTREMELY well. She told me that she knew that being pregnant WAS NOT about her, she need to be strong.
I am not sure who posted this information, but you are not correct. The CHILD is completely formed at 10 weeks of gestation...check into some RELIABLE medical facts information services. The child continues to grow. As a matter of fact, the brain, the spine, the heart and other functioning organs are completely formed. There is NO opinion in these facts. I do not place this post to be nasty or otherwise, but I think, as women we ALLL really need to be made aware of the truth of these things.

There are MANY different conclusions about morality or such in this issue, however, I truly believe that women need to know of the emotional "scarring" that does occur. Yes, I do believe a woman should be able to choose, but we are not one anothers enemy. We should all face the truth together. I have been on both sides of the spectrum, and I have seen the truth of these facts and studied ALOT about this. Lets have some peace about this ladies and not attack one another
"Abortion" is a very sensitve and emotiional topic. While non of us can really predict the future, it is not easy to bring a child into the world in unfortunate circumstances for that parent and child to suffer in every sense of the word. Ok a woman acted irresponsible and got pregnant- she should know better next time but you see everyone makes mistakes. what if she doesn't have the money or emotional support? What about depression - something that can affect the proper development of a baby? That baby is being denied a lot of things before it's even born if you read me. (And I'm not saying abortion is right)
It is one of the most hurtful thing for a mother to watch her child suffer whether it's her fault or not. So many people brought their children into the world and they died having very little or nothing. Some turned out violent & like monsters because all they faced in life was stress, depravation, hunger and everything unpleasant. Yes I know many turn out fine and I can mention so much more..but the point I want to make is this. People should be careful about how they address topics like this because you just never know what you what do if you were in a certain situation - trust me we just never know.
Hi Guest,

I am reading your post here this late, and I was pretty amazed at the comments that I am reading from you. Have you ever seen a 4=D SONOGRAM? Did you know that a baby is COMPLETELY FORMED by 10 weeks? Perhaps reading other selections than the lies that planned parenthood purports. I am not judging you at all, just concerned where you are getting your facts. God does not need to be defended or "bashed". Ugly and defensive comments toward God are your right to say, but they dont sound to be coming from someone who ENTIRELY has researched and understand the conpexities and TRUTH of either subject.
IT IS NOT compeletely formed, LOOK UP fetal medicine websites, those pro life websites are not accurate.

I work in the healthcare field, I KNOW fetal development.

Read this, as I am not allowed to link information..

Fourth Month
At this stage, the fetus is fully formed and looks much more human although his head is still large in proportion to body. Now the baby is far less likely to be harmed by infections or other drugs. All the organs will start growing and improving their activities. The muscles are developing, so the baby moves much more. The kidneys are producing urine which is discharged from time to time into the aminotic fluid. Aminotic fluid is also continually added to by seepage through the surface of the placenta and from the fetal surfaces. The fetus swallows the fluid which is absorbed through his intestine. The fluid is thus being changed continually. The fetus is now practicing breathing movements. A thin, transparent and downy air called lanugo begins to cover him. His eyelashes and eyebrows is forming and has a bridge to his nose. Teeth are beginning to form in his gums and finger and toe nails are more definite. The baby has vocal cords and taste buds and can now suck her thumb. The heart is beating about 120 to 160 beats a minute. By the end of this month he weighs 140 gms (approx) and measures about 15-17 cm.
Hi Carifairy,

I am also in the healthcare field, NOT in the abortion field. I believe these resources to be reliable, and I also know an OBGYN as he is husband to a very dear friend. You claim to be non-judgemental, why do you then refer to my resources as either pro-life or pro-"choice"? THE FACTS speak for themselves, have you ever seen a 4 D sonogram? How can you lie to these girls? Do you give them a step by step reading of what they are going to have done to their bodies? Do you show them anything? Do you let them see the sonograms? Do you explain to them EXACTLY the tools that will be used, what they are used for? Do babies not have heart beats and formed spines at (at least partially) at 10 weeks? If you want to tell these girls on this site the truth, how about posting EXACTLY what the tools are that you people use, and EXACTLY what you are going to be doing?

I have read both sides of the "coin" so to speak. I have researched for MANY years both by myself and with the help of fellow colleagues and with PROFESSIONAL OBGyN doctors. I think my next post is going to explan IN DETAIL what is done to these womens bodies. I know EXACTLY what is done. I think of myself NO BETTER than anyone else; however, it absolutely disgusts me to see women taking advantage of and lying to other women.

Yes, we are DEFINETELY entitiled to speak our minds, but WE SHOULD all be presenting FACTS. The fact that you mentioned what you thought to be "pro-life" information tells me that you indeed are not very much non judgmental with others. I didnt state wether or not I was pro choice or pro life.

I hold NO JUDGEMENT OR DISDAIN toward ANY woman who has chosen abortion, my heart goes out to them. I hold disdain for those who purport lies and deceipt in the way for the "mighty dollar".
At 'my' clinic, ALL women are offered to look at their ultrasound, and about 80% do wish to look.

We thoroughly explain every detail about the abortion procedure, including anesthesia risks, HOW the procedure is performed, and birth control counseling. Why would someone not explain this?

There are 'bad' doctors in abortion, there are BAD cosmetic surgeons, and there are other physicians that are only concerned with money.

Hackjob doctors exist in any medical specialty.

On a side note, I have had an abortion, more than one actually, and am fully able to explain the procedure to women with first hand knowledge, not just 'facts'.

Education is of extreme importance to me, education on STD prevention, pregnancy prevention, condom use, and contraception, are things that are necessary.
Carifairy,

Remember that everyone is going to have a different experience in things. My thumbs up to you that education is of extreme importance to you. That is great, however, WE ALL need to make sure that we are giving the women ALL the options, NOT JUST condom use and contraception, I am hoping you offer them the thought of abstinence also, because that is one of the options....NOT the easiest, but a good one. I think that most women who TRULY want to know information about the procedure will want the FACTS, because as you stated each persons experience with the procedure is different.

I have wanted to ask you some questions. You stated you work in an abortion clinic. I know that the clinics perform abortions up to a certaint trimester....others up to 9 months, I cannot remember I will have to look at my information....at any rate... you have seen the little bodies that come out and you have had to account for them and send them to labs. What comes across your mind when you see the complexities with each?

I urge you to place a TRUTHFUL post on the abortion procedure....AT EACH TRIMESTER IN PREGNANCY..INCLUDING the partial birth abortion procedure.

Explaining what is used in each procedure. Explaining what is done to the fetus in order to remove them from the womb and the cervix. I am going to gather my information from my studies and post what is done in each trimester of the abortion.

I WILL NOT place judgement on these girls, as a woman, we need to be helping these ladies. We need to give them the TRUTH.

Yes, I do totally agree that firsthand information is a great help and tool, but each and every human being is TOTALLY DIFFERENT, and each person is going to feel different things and go through different things. One woman cannot guage what her experience is going to be through another woman.

THESE GIRLS WANT THE FACTS. THEY DESERVE IT.

Carifairy, I pray that you are well after the procedures you had done. I only wish you well. Blessings.

Hizgrace
We do not send tissue off to a lab, unless the woman is having an abortion for fetal deformity.

We ensure that the pregnancy is terminated through ultrasound technology.

Our clinic goes up to 20 weeks in gestation. I have only seen 5 aboritons past 14 weeks in the last 8 months, 3 were due to early caught deformity/fetal anomaly.

"PBA" or the so called partial birth abortion is MAINLY used in ONE select scenario. There is something called a Labor and delivery induction abortion, which most clinics do not do, and if the fetus has Hydrocephalus, it may not be able to be delivered unless the skull is collapsed.

D&E abortion is done for later term abortions, the fetus is dismembered inside of the uterus, and the parts are suctioned out.

Here are the different types of abortions...

I want to write a post discussing Abortion, the procedures which are offered NOWADAYS(like my word?), and how it has changed in the past 30+ years.

Right now abortion is safe, it is performed by LISCENSED doctors in sterile conditions, and is regulated by local health departments.

Techniques.... There are 3 ways an abortion is performed in THE US today, SURGICAL, medications, and "Labor and delivery induction". Today, abortion is not known as the PAINFUL procedure it once was known as. There are Anesthesia options available at MOST nicer clinics, and more women take advantage of this extra option. My abortion was painless 100%. Back in the 1980's, abortion was given a painful reputation due to the lack of anesthetics being offered by abortion providers.
**Todays Abortion:
*Surgical abortion is the most effective way to terminate a pregnancy, and it is performed with Suction Aspiration which is applied via a suction curretage machine. For most early abortions from 4-12 weeks, no metal insturments are needed inside of the uterus, ONLY suction is used. Some clinics offer MANUAL vacuum pumps for an early abortion from 3 through 7/8 weeks, and these are not as noisy as the machines. FROM 12 weeks to about 15 weeks, the same suction is used, but the cervix must be dilated a bit large to allow a larger suction cannula into the uterus. Some doctors also use an overnight seaweed dilator for the cervix, which softens the cervix prior to the abortion procedure day. This technique can make dilation easier. FROM 16 WEEKS through--- Whenever the law accepts, D&E is used. D&E uses SUCTION ASPIRATION, but there are metal instruments isnerted into the uterus to dismember the fetus and ensure ALL parts are completely suctioned out. NOTHING IS PARTIALLY BORN.
*** Medication abortion--abortion by pill** A woman is given a drug to STOP the fetus from growing, and it is killed thorugh this process. In 24-48 hours, she uses another drug which creates contractions which expel the fetus. the contrcations last an average of 4 hours.

***Labor and delivery abortion** There are women who do WANT Their babies, and were happy about the pregnancy, but they find out that their baby has a defect. Trisomy 18, Anencephaly, Hydrocephalus, Dandy walker syndrome, these are only a few terribly disfiguring diseases whick women may terminate for. These were wanted pregnancies, so many women want to hodl their "BABY" and have closure. Many women also choose other perosnal ceremonies, cremation, and even autopsy to see if they can recieve any new info. Their Labor is induced with Pitocin, just like any other labor which is induced. Their membranes may be stripped, and they will eventually deliver a stillborn baby. The baby is born stillborn due to a shot of Digoxin into the heart. Sometimes the baby has a defect which causes its head to be filled with massive amount of fluid, and it cannot be delivered through the cervix, so the head is collapsed to allow safe passage. This is the SUPPOSED PBA technique, which is highly misunderstood among even pro choicers.

SO..WHAT about "Back Then"??
Back in the 'day', abortion was done a little bit differently, and often most women did not recieve anesthesia, they were awake. Suction abortion was used, but D&C via a metal loop currette was often used as well. Suction is easier, and it creates fewer bleeding problems than a D&C with metal currettes would. Later abortions past 12/13 weeks were done VIA SALINE Amniocentesis, or Saline abortion. This was basically a "Labor and delivery" abortion done in a different way than we do today, and it carried many risks. SALINE was inserted into the amniotic fluid, this would kill the fetus and cause the woman to soon deliver a stillborn baby. The fetus was not euthanized beforehand though, so it is safe to say that there were live births recorded. Saline also created risks for the woman and her health as well. D&E is safer thah SALINE abortion, and it has replaced it. SALINE abortion is no longer needed or performed thanks to better techniques.
I am stunned.
I have never been an advocate of abortion but i have always believed that it should be offered for medical or genuine necessities, like a pregnancy where the mother has been raped and is unable to continue the pregnancy.
But, honestly after reading the above post, i have thought more about it.
I feel so much for the poor foetuses/babies who go through this. And yes, to me a foetus is a baby.
It sounds barbaric and very wrong.
I suppose when you actually hear of the way it is carried out, it makes it more real.
It is scary to think there are actually doctors/medical persons who can carry out any of these procedures.
I am a mother so i suppose it hits me harder.

An important scientific gathering was convened in October 1967 in Washington D.C. to decide this question. Medical professionals, biological scientists and authorities in the fields of law, ethics and the social sciences gathered together to settle the matter. This was the First International Conference on Abortion. The first major question considered was this: "When does human life begin?" And this is an important question, for we all know that we should not kill human beings. But when does an unborn child become a human being? At conception when the two cells unite, at birth forty weeks later, or at some point between the two?

Here was the decision of this group (composed of biochemists, professors of obstetrics and gynecology, geneticists, etc.):

"The majority of our group could find no point in time between the union of sperm and egg, or at least the blastocyst stage [shortly after fertilization, when twinning might occur] and the birth of the infant at which point we could say that this was not a human life. The changes occurring between implantation, a six-weeks embryo, a six months fetus, a one week-old child, or a mature adult are merely stages of development and maturation."—First International Conference on Abortion, Washington B.C., October 1967.
Abortions in the United States for rape, incest, to protect the life of the mother, or to void a defective fetus comprise less than five percent of all abortions. The rest are performed just for convenience. And we're talking about one million abortions a year.
