If you haven't undergone the procedure, DON"T!! It is a decision that could really affect your life in a detrimental way. I had labiaplasty about 1 month ago and I'm in discomfort and not pleased with the results. I'm disgusted with myself that I had it done and wish I could turn back time. It has affected me both physically and emotionally and I will always live with regret.

When you think about it - wouldn't you rather live with long bits of skin between your legs rather than skin which is scarred and that could affect your whole life and sex life? Don't go under the knife particularly for an area that's so sensitive.

Labiaplasty appears to be very common in America - i live in Australia, it is becoming common but it seems to be a more well known procedure in the States...

Anyway, as for Clitoroplexy - no way. Do not touch the clitoris - there are so many nerve endings there. Such a procedure will most definitely affect your sensation.

Ladies, be happy with what you've got. There are so many illness and health conditions in the world that are far worse than having long labia. I feel that from a perfectly healthy woman I've turned into someone with discomfort and emotional issues - issues that I wouldn't have had if i didn't have the procedure.
So anyone who is thinking of doing it, think twice.

I'm scheduled to have labiaplasty in June. I'm now having second thoughts even though I already paid a deposit of $500. I'm mostly worried about losing sensation. I'm going to someone who I researched really well, but then I read the stuff about Dr. Alter and he is certainly well regarded.

Missmuffet, did you do it?

by the way, local anestesia hurts like hell when you get injected.
it's not a painless surgery.
i would ask your doctor if you can use an antibiotic ointment of any sort to prevent an infection, i would use cold packs as much as possible, do not wear underwear, pads or pants.
wash the area 3 times a day gently.
and don't let your partners enjoy that area to much orally now that
it's like new again.
good luck

I am currently 6 days post-op. My plastic surgeon performed the wedge method for my labiaplasty while I was under local anesthesia. The procedure itself was relatively painless from start to finish--a local numbing cream applied to the skin made the injections of anesthesia more than bearable. The procedure itself took about 25-30 minutes. There was significant swelling by the time I got home, and for the first few days I took PO antibiotics, iced regularly, took Sitz baths, and applied antibiotic ointment. The first two days I felt okay, but by the third, the pain was worse. It's bearable, but by the afternoon I usually take a Percocet for the pain--a combination of ice and Percocet luckily do the trick (I'm not keen on using such strong painkillers, so I'm hoping the pain will subside soon so that I might use Tylenol instead). I can lift a few things (not recommended), but walking and sitting with my legs together is very uncomfortable. I still have a little bit of spotting from the stitches, and I'm a little concerned that my labia are still asymmetrical, although he cut more from one labia than the other and it seems logical that the one side should be more swollen than the other. There's some itching as the stitches heal, but mostly, I'm impatient and ready for the pain to subside. If anyone can share their stories, as well, and let me know how long their recovery for the wedge procedure took, I would be most appreciative.

I am considering having secondary labiaplasty and a clitropexy with Dr. Alter, NOT FOR AESTHETIC REASONS. I had a labiaplasty done 25 years ago at age 16 when the surgery was still very primitive (a gyn just amputated them) because they bothered me (ie pinching, rubbing, etc.) I was somewhat happy with the result although I did have some scar tissue and scalloped edges, and much of the skin still protruded. Its still very bulky down there.
In recent years I have become hyper aware again of the hood and labia in underwear and bathing suits, and find it not necessarily painful, but VERY annoying and uncomfortable. If Dr. Alter could shorten the hood and refine the labia so that much of it remains "tucked inside" the outer lips I know I would be more comfortable.

So, please - everyone who has done it I would really love to know how you have healed, what issues you have had, etc. To those of you who have said "don't do it", believe me - I don't really want to have to do this but I am so uncomfortable all the time that I may have to take the risk.

I'm prepared for a painful recovery - it wasn't any fun the first time, believe me, and I was very young. I am concerned about nerve damage, etc etc. I don't care if I don't end up with the perfect looking clitoris, I just don't want it protruding anymore!

Thanks for any and all input!

I had labiaplasty yesterday and so far so good. I was given a numbing cream to place on the area prior to surgery which numbed it quite well. I was then given a light sedation so I felt nothing. My surgeon did the wedge method which in my opinion is the only way to go after researching it and being in the medical field myself. The post op pain so far is minimal, the area is quite swollen but even so my vagina looks great! I am going to gently wash the area 2-3 times a day and apply neosporin to prevent infection. I am also on antibiotics. If I do have pain I have vicodin on hand however Motrin is working just fine for now. Ice packs help so do them every hour or so for 20- mins. If you are considering labiaplasty find a surgeon who does the wedge method, I can't stress this more...

I am 5 days post op for labiaplasty. I saw the doctor today and he said things are healing well. There was really no pain after surgery, just soreness and swelling. It was more sore on day 3 and is getting to feel better. I did not have to take the pain pills (vicodin) prescribed because it was not painful. I took motrin only. There is firmness over the suture line on both sides with more on the right. The doctor said this is normal and it should get softer in the next few weeks. So far it has been a very easy recovery. I had the wedge resection which I recommend strongly. It looks more natural and is less painful and less chance of complications. I am happy with my decision and my outcome so far. As far as how it looks, everything is on the inside now!!!! I couldn't be happier...

Hi everyone.
After 10 years of hating my labia I today went to see the doctor about it. Of course, it is in part cosmetic, but the overriding reason i want it done is that it's so sore, gets in the way of sex etc and gets caught in my underwear. It's not as bad as some I have seen on the internet but certainly bad enough to cause me massive irritation and embarrassment.
I am going to see a gynae on the nhs soon to see what they say, but the doctor told me they'd only do something if it's physical and not deemed as cosmetic. The main reason i want it done is a physical one and that it causes me pain, but i don't know how to talk to the gynae to reassure them that it's not simply a whim or cosmetic issue.
Has anyone had it done on the nhs? What will make them agree that this is a physical problem as I don't know if they;ll take me seriously.
i don't know what tosay to the gynae when i have my first appointment, aside from the fact that it hurts, gets in the way of sex/tampx. stops me from orgasiming and looks like a willy!!!
Has anyone been awake during the procedure? Does it hurt?
It's so uncomfortable and painful to have sex and where lacy knickers :-(
Many thanks xx

I have been contemplating having this procedure done for about three years now, and i finally decided to just do it. In addition to my unhappiness with the way my labia looked, I also found that it would get in the way during sex and wearing certain underwear was uncomfortable when it rubbed while I walked or ran.

I had it done a week ago at the Toronto Cosmetic Clinic. It cost me exactly $4200, which is a lot of money, except for the fact that I have been budgeting my money for about two years now, putting a little bit into a savings account every so often for this very procedure.

At the Toronto Cosmetic Clinic there are two mandatory appointments before the actual surgery, and a $500 deposit must be made on the first appointment, and the rest ($3700) on the second. I have to admit that It was a shock to give away so much money, but i felt good knowing that I had been saving up for this procedure by putting away money that I probably would have otherwise wasted on something else (a cup of coffee here, an extra drink at the bar there..)

I was pretty nervous going into the procedure, but the staff was very helpful and the nurses were comforting. To me needles are no big deal at all, so I didnt mind the small prick of the anesthesia needle and it wasn't long before I was already waking up, with the procedure all done!

Before I left, the nurse showed me in a mirror what it looked like. It was a bit swollen and red, but I could not see the stitches, and I was just pleased at how neat and tidy they looked. When i left, I felt no pain at all, but the area felt pretty swollen.

About three hours later, the area began to feel sore, not in a stinging way but more like a dull ache. I took a tylenol 3 and in an hour, I felt much better.

For the next few days, the swelling was about the same. Sitting was a bit uncomfortable, but pain medication make this a lot better. Even without the pain meds, I feel like the pain is bearable, mainly more of an annoyance or minor discomfort. Really, no big deal.

One thing that others interested in this procedure may not know is all of the instructions associated with prep and recovery for the operation. It is important to follow all the instructions given before the procedure (such as no smoking, drinking, vitamins, advil, or fish a week or two in advance) and after the procedure (take antibiotics as perscribed, apply cream twice daily, do sitz baths with epsom salts 3-4 times daily, no drinking, no hot tubs, and no sex for six weeks!), but these instructions are all inplace to ensure the success of the procedure, and I felt that they are not too difficult to follow.

I just wanted to share my story because I have read so many comments that made me nervous and unsure about the procedure. So far I'm doing great, I'm happy with the results and I'm glad I did it.

If this is something that you know you want, I would recommend going for it. BUT this is also something that should not be rushed into! Do research, and have it done at a reliable place have performed hundreds of these operations, and have recommendations. Ask about the risks involved and make sure you consider these carefully! Make sure that this is what you want. Give yourself a few years to think it over and put aside some money so it isn't too much of a sacrifice all at once.

Remember that you are beautiful no matter what! It is a big decision, but if you think it will improve your life in one way or another, then no one should tell you that it won't.

I am now 4 weeks post-op from labiaplasty. I felt like I had to post on this message board because I almost backed out of my surgery after reading some of the postings. I had been contemplating the surgery for a while and did a lot of research into doctors and techniques.

I had the procedure in a surgery center under general anesthesia (the first time for me, which I was very nervous about). My doctor performed the labiaplasty using a laser/wedge, and put in many layers of sutures for a very natural outcome. The benefit of the laser in her technique is to minimize bleeding, since the labia are very vascular and bleed a lot.

The procedure went well and I was home before I knew it. I started with the ice packs right away (for 20min, every hour). Small packages of frozen veggies works great. I took very little narcotic pain medicine because it made me nauseated, and Tylenol/alternating with Motrin did the job for me. I took 5 days off of work and did a lot of resting, which was difficult for me. As far as care of my incisions, I showered on the day after surgery and cleaned it gently with a mild soap called Purpose. I also put Neosporin on it a few times a day and did daily sitz baths with Epsom salt.

My recovery wasn't a walk in the park... on the 5th day after surgery, I got a urinary tract infection, which made me feel crummy... the antibiotics I took for that gave me a yeast infection, which made me feel horrible from the itching... and that had to be treated twice.

Little by little, it has become less tender, and less swollen. I will say the biggest complaint I have right now is still some itching, which is normal from the healing incisions and sutures that are still in. I followed up with my doctor two days ago, and she says that I'm healing beautifully, and that I'm still swollen, which is normal at 4 weeks. I can already see what the final results will look like and I'm excited.

If you are thinking about this surgery, please, please, please do your research. Ask many questions when you see the doctor.

What technique do you use?
How did you train for this procedure?
How many have you done?
How long have you been doing them?
Can I see before and after pictures?
Have you had any complications?

I strongly suggest that you do not let anyone that doesn't specialize in this procedure perform it. You also do not want to undergo a simple amputation of the labia. I thought about it, when all I cared about was having my labia "chopped off", but you will regret it. That procedure can cause excessive scarring and pain.

Like I said, my recovery wasn't a walk in the park. It was recovery from actual surgery. But now, 4 weeks out, I'm starting to be able to see the final results and I'm glad I had the procedure done.

Good luck to everyone that's contemplating this procedure. I understand how difficult a decision it is.

I live in the UK and had a labiplasty done about 3 weeks ago. I was nervous at first but took the time to find an un-commercialised surgeon who lived near by. He has been great and always available by phone if i needed to contact or see him after surgery, although i know not everyone will have such a good surgeon.
I have to say I am so HAPPY with the results, Im 18 and pleased that i have had it done now so I don't have to be bothered by it again! I've read lots of things that might put people off but if you find a decent surgeon and don't go with a big company then im sure you'll be fine. I also only paid just over £1500 when big companys had qouted me all the way up to £3500, for what seemed less care and just just another sale to them.
I took exactly 5 days of work and wasn't to bad when i returned.
I was very very swollen and bruised for about 3 days then the bruising vanished along with the swelling by about day 6. It was painful but nothing that painkillers couldn't handle although i was in bed alot of the time. My stitches are nearly all gone and im soooo happy with how i look, it looks really natural and in my eyes perfect. I know the last thing know is that having sex again for the first time since the op will probably be a bit uncomfortable as the hole is smaller.
All in all i am completely happy!
But my advice to anyone is be sure you want this, i have been for years. Research as much as you can by TV internet doctors ect..
Don't go with anyone pushy who asks for money before they ahve even examined you.
Don't get it done because you feel society needs you to please let it be your own decision not because you don't look like her or because he wants you to!
Also don't have unreal expectations.. mens magazines don't feature photos untill they have been airbrushed!!!

It is very sorry to hear that many had such a bad experience. Its unfair to discourage others from doing what can be the best decision. It just takes more careful planning, research, sufficient cash and post-operative care. I had mine done in September 2007 and travelled overseas three weeks later – removed stitches when I got back a month later. Healed perfectly following all docs instructions. DO not overwork the area, bed rest! - painkillers make you painless and you can overwork the area without knowing it even from walking. try not take a pain killer and see how much blood is pumped to that area by simple walking.

I have had discomfort from my previously enlarged labia, it was difficult to keep my hygiene, denied sexual pleasures due to the way it looked before the surgery - NOW - I am free. I enjoy life, enjoy sex, very easy to keep smelling clean and tasting good.

Most importantly - RESEARCH your DOCS !!! Make sure your doc is certified board member in this field, legitimate, don’t be shy to ask numbers of surgeries performed, statistics, success-failure stories ect! This is an out of packet expense so many settle for a cheaper doc and pay for this mistake for the rest of their lives.

I had two kids and after having the last one I did labiaplasty AND vaginal rejuvenation as the same time - the sex is awesome now. especially if your boyfriends penis is not too big to begin with. The best investment of my life. He even did what is called un-hooding – opening of the clit – which can result in a nerve damage if done incorrectly. The result is NOT YOUR LUCK– it’s the competence of the doc you selected and the number of surgeries he/she performed and their success rate.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. i would also highly recommend doing the procedure locally – you might want to see your docs without having to travel long-distance.

Hi, I had a labiaplasty 4 days ago here in Ireland where I live, I have to report I had no pain whatsoever, I still have had no pain and didnt have to take pain releif! I feel slight itching now, but its bearable, I could walk sit and stand on day one, I was released 4 hours after surgery, I was extremely tired from anesthetic for three days. I am delighted with the results but the right hand side is very swollen and rock hard like a small sausage, im sure this will go away. Anyway I just want to let people know that my female gynecologist was aslo trained in cosmetic surgery, but I did feel confident knowing it was a gynecologist as she knows the proper functioning of the vagina and how much skin is needed, maybe cosmetic surgeons dont know as much.

I've been researching clitoroplexy but can't seem to find an answer to my question. I don't have an enlarged labia or clitoris. My outer lips cover everything nicely however my clitoris is at the very top of my labia and it gets no stimulation during intercourse. I need manual or oral stimulation to climax. I've had sex with enough men to know that the size of the penis isn't the issue. I can only figure that if my clit was closer to my vaginal opening then I might be stimulated during intercourse. But I could be wrong. Does anyone know anything about this?
