Dear Hope. I just had a consultation with Dr. Alter, but I have not yet made an appointment for surgery. I would also have a labiaplasty and clitoropexy done and i truly need them both. I am new to this message board thing, and I just want to make sure I am understanding your post correctly. You have had a nightmare recovery from both of those procedures? Is everything better now? I was so happy to learn that I could finally fix the problem I had, but I would be fool to move forward if what you said is true. I am bummed, and sorry for your experience. I truly hope things are better now, please let me know if they are. Thank you much.

Where did you get it done? I'm from Australia too and am a little freaked by the costs.

we are sooo lucky in the uk as we have the nhs that pays for the procedure, so unfair that u have to pay out for this yourself! 1st australian lady that sounds about right re the stitches pulling, suprised doc is removing them rather than letting the disolve naturally as that soiunds quite a painful thing to go thru. mine disolved at day 10. im day 17 now and feel almost back to normal, slight bit of itching now and then but thats all. dont regret having it done one bit. keep us updated how u get along xx

Why wouldn't anyone not want to get labioplasty if they had a problem down there? It was incredibly helpful for me because it got rid of my huge lips. Lemondae: I went to toronto cosmetic clinic, too and had no problem there! Weren't the girls at the front were super nice and the doctor excellent? I tell you, dlv is the only way to go!

sorry, what should be above 4 cm? the amount it protrudes out of the outer labia?

Like so many others on this forum, I have dealt with this problem most of my life. I honestly thought I was deformed until a few years ago when I saw a program with Dr. Alter. No one every mentioned anything to me when I was single, and I didn't even hear any of the terms until a few years ago ("meat curtains" comes to mind.) I am 44, and my labia have gotten longer/thicker recently, even without children. I am fortunate as my husband is supportive. It is hard to talk about. Seems like such a strange think to bother you, both only other women who have to constantly adjust themselves to avoid pinching, squishing, crushing would understand. I have an appointment with my GP next week to discuss and get a referral. I'm a little worried about the pain, but looking forward to not having the constant discomfort. I even wake up in the night from my pajamas binding me!
So thankful for this forum and all the information.

yep 4cms WAS the criteria of protrusion of inner labia to get this dun on the nhs - i say WAS as this procedure is slowly being removed from the NHS - im a medical sec and the whole of north east herts has had this removed, no longer available, and many other trusts are doing this, so if u do get it done u will be very luckky, i was one of the last ones to have it approved to be done and that was 5 months ago xx

I had labiaplasty 5 days ago by a plastic surgeon. It was done with no sedation under local anesthesia and took less than an hour. The first 8 hours after the freezing wore off were very painful-I recommend taking the max dose of painkillers as soon as your off the table (while still frozen) so you don't ever experience this pain! then continue taking them every four hours for the 1st 24 hours. I felt much better once the meds kicked in-woke up sore the next morning, took some painkillers off and on but was able to do house work. Had some swelling-but was walking normally-just slower. By the third day I no longer required anything for pain (a little uncomfortable) but that might be because I went out shopping all day. Returned to work (as an RN) on day four with some discomfort-but nothing major. Its only been five days and things down there look a little frightening with all the brusing/stiching etc, but I can see that it it is going to be a dramatic improvement from before. Other than some pain and bleeding on the first day I have had no complaints. If your unhappy-just do it-believe me-its worth it. I wish I would have done this ten years ago-and my reasoning was purely asthetics.

 Hi,

I had a Labiaplasty one week ago. Local Anesthetic was used rather than General as I wanted to cut the cost of surgery and I didn't think it was worth being put to sleep over. The most painful part for me was the injections of Local, so if money isn't an issue I would recommend using General. I probably could have had changes made to my clitoris, I chose not to because I didn't want any loss of sensation and there is nothing wrong with a hooded clitoris in my opinion. I just had the Inner Minora trimmed so that the tissue was slightly inside the Outer Labia. First day I took one codein capsule for pain and followed with two panadol four hourly (one codein per day) I took panandol for the first four days only. I was also prescribed anti-inflammatories and antibiotics to keep infection away and swelling down. I used a grease gauze (like a cotton gauze covered in petroleum jelly from a pharmacy) to prevent the sides from sticking to underwear or dressings, a week later and I'm still using them, changing every single time I go to the bathroom! Annoying! Also urine really stings the cuts so make sure you drink a lot of water to dilute it. Avoid soap.. Just carefully rinse.. I'm not feeling very much pain at all now, only if I sit in a certain position for too long. Most of the swelling is gone already. My advice is to get less removed rather than more, to reduce risk of nerve damage. And take a week off work or more if it is an active job. This is just my experience, hope it helps! :)

hello,
i like hope123 and many others did not have a positive experience. i had intented to have only the labiaplasty but was talked into having a clitorpexy too even though i really didn't want it. I discovered afterwards the clitoral hood was not shortened i effectively just had the clitoris stitched to my pubic bone which was incredibly painful and has perminantly effected the quality of sensation i get there. not to mention the extra cost. please please please think twice before agreeing to this surgery. i too saw dr alter.

has anyone else had a similar experience? i actually got quite depressed about it as couldn't believe my vanity had led to making a very bad decision which i am going to have to live with for the rest of life. i have tormented myself by going over it again and again in my mind but saying "yes" to the labiaplasy and "no" to the clitorpexy. i can't believe it is still advertised as a procedure that has no effect on sensation.

Hi there. I had my labiaplasty four weeks ago and I cannot walk or even roll over in bed! The first week I was on so many pain killers I don't even remember the whole week. Week 2, I was absolutely visually perfect but still in minor pain. I took Aleve instead of prescription pills. At the end of week 2/ beginning of week 3, my stitches started spliting and I started swelling. It looked like a hotdog then a stitch, hotdog then a stitch. I called my doctor (I'm in Texas) and she said it was fine since it didn't smell, ooze, or I wasn't having a temp. This whole time I stayed in bed, not even going into my kitchen to make meals. Yesterday, even though I have been getting steadily worse, I went to get my hair done, I was so tired of having dark roots. I didn't thnk it was a big deal since I would be sitting the whole time. I sat at an angle as to not put pressure on my labia. Today I am so swollen. I cannot move, literally. If I lie on my stomach the swelling is so much it presses against the bed. Even my butt hurts which has never been an issue. My husband is a doctor (but not in this field) and he says it doesn't look infected just insanely swollen. I am in bed with one leg on the bed and one leg up knee bent. I've been religious about applying Neosporin with pain relief. Has anyone ever been good and then started to get worse day by day? I have had four children and surgery before, I think I am pretty tough as far as pain. I'm 29 and in really great health so I thought I would heal quickly. When I look in the mirror it is a mangled mess. I can't tell where one part ends and the other starts. It is disgusting looking and burns like crazy. Does anyone have any thoughts?

you poor poor thing, you shouldnt be in that state after 4 weeks! my only suggestion is ice on and off every 20 mins - it really will help with the swelling. also dont know if u can get in in america, but in england we use arnica - its a herbal tablet that brings down swelling/bruising. and u really should go back and see whoever did the operation to check things are as they should be. keep us updated x

Oh my goodness lululu! The swelling went down a bit last night. I couldn't believe it the left side looked still not healed but on it's way. The right side is awful! Near the front my minora is a one inch island and the back part has grafted itself to my majora, which I also had a reduction on. I guess both pieces were raw and it just healed to the wrong piece of raw skin!! I called my doctor this morning and her nurse had never heard of this before! It's like a web of skin. I'm going to see her tomorrow even though she is a flight away and I'll have to deal with a major airport. Have you ever heard of this? I have heard of arnica on these message boards but I have no access to it. Thanks for your reply!!
