Audible noise when moving my eyes

This doesn't happen always, but between 5-10 times a week I will hear (or appear to hear) a noise which vaguely sounds like someone quickly ripping a piece of paper or cloth when I move my eyes from one point to another (left to right, up to down, etc). I guess I'm just trying to figure out is this really happening, or am I suffering from some type of auditory hallucination? There doesn't seem to be any single set of circumstances it occurs in. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

THANK YOU! I thought I was losing my mind. I am weaning off of several anti-depressants and have had these symptoms. When I look left and right there is the "crunching" sound. Couldn't figure it out. Got on here and found this site. Saved me a trip to the Dr and trying to explain what was going on.
I've been having the same thing - I have been reading on other forums and others that had the same problem were on antidepressants or anti anxiety meds. I am specifically on Zoloft and have noticed this the most when I have missed my meds for a couple of days. Are you currently on any of those types of meds?
Thank you all. I've had terrible sinus congestion the last couple of days and attributed the noise to just being overly congested, not even realizing it could be that i missed taking the anti depressant. Good to know for future reference. The noise i hear sounds similar to ya'lls but i always described it as a light saber sound, whoon, whoon, left to right whenever i moved my eyes. I never noticed that it doesnt do it up and down, gottta be the same thing. Thank you all.
Now, I just weaned myself off of zoloft a couple weeks ago. This seems to have started since then (light saber noise and vertigo/ nausea when looking far to right, left, up and down). I've noticed my sinus pressure and eye gook problem has worsened since the wean, too.
Yea I may have to go with weaning as well... I went through a heck of a time with a wife that made (and still makes) really bad choices.  I just completed my last dose of effexor and have begun welbutrin.  I have never had my eyes make my a noise until now.  I am a healthy guy that does a LOT of fight sports.  Not sure if head trauma has anything to do with it.  Alcohol may have an effect as well if you take these drugs. Yes vertigo, yes nausea as well.
My eye noise symptoms when shifting my eyes extremely right or left is not as severe now. It's been 30 days since the 100mg zoloft step down last pill. My sinus pressure is still there but not making me nauseous though I now get vertigo right when I lay down or get up too fast. I am convinced the extreme head swelling sinus pressure triggered by zoloft withdrawals is the underlying cause of the eye noise and all these ear, nose, throat symptoms. All of a sudden, my thyroid is acting up, too. Hooray.
I went off Effexor, Klonopin, Seroquel & Adderall in July and one of the worst withdrawal symptoms was the light saber noise. That's now gone but I still have some eye problems (strange tight sensation between my eyes periodically) and ears -they seem to still be trying to get rid of congestion. Off meds my balance is actually back.
It's weird the global inflammation I've felt since the Wean, swollen ancles, achey joints, distended abdomen, puffy face, and the whole head/sinus/eye blow up. It's true that antihistamines help, but they'll dry your sinuses and still leave you next morning with a horrible sinus mold breath and still congestion. Tried mucinex sinus...it's like I took a placebo.
I too was SO sore in my back and legs everyday. Thankfully that is now gone. So is the creepy crawly feeling I had at night (like there were ants crawling on me), During the end of the light saber sound in my eyes (they call those "brain zaps" or "brain shivers"), I also use to wake up because I thought I heard a door or drawer slam but no one was there. The good news is that all this crazy stuff DOES go away. Time seems to be the best medicine of all for any of it. When I went off 6 months ago, I found a website geared towards recovery and withdrawal symptoms. It helped me know I wasn't going nuts. It's called Surviving Antidepressants and I've found so much great info on it. Hang in there, peeps :-)
I have also noticed this eye-moving-noise, during the past week or so.  I did see a site that suggested coming off anti-depressants can be the cause.  I have just finished my prescription of Zoloft, for anti-anxiety, and wonder if this is the cause?  Sometimes when I move my eyes left or right, I will hear the "noise".  For me, the noise reminds me of what an Etch-a-Sketch sounds like when you shake it once; sounds like sand moving against a smooth surface.  It is my left ear that seems to "hear" this noise more so.  Also, I am perimenopausal, so not sure if there is a connection there or not. I am monitoring this curiosity for a bit longer to see if it disappears soon.
It's 45 days now since my last zoloft and the eye noise has stopped altogether. I still have the swollen ankles and abdomen and they seem worse than ever. Still have swollen sinuses. I would like to say I can live with these symptoms...I can't. I am going to start researching inflammation cures and report back on success.
i have the exactly same symptoms, when i move my eyes up down, left right it sounds as though in my head behind my eyes like ripping paper, or a buzzing sensation. it makes me dizzy and i find it hard to concentrate even read. Have you heard anything about what it may be???
Hello there. Im coming of antidepressants and propanalol. With the noise behind my eyes ive also felt dizzy, slurred speach and difficulty ready !
I too have started noticing the "ripping" sound though I was described as a gnawing sound. When I look left it "gnaws" 3 times, when I look to the right it only seems to do it twice. When the house was quiet last night and I finally realized what I was hearing all I could think was, "This is f---ing crazy, I can hear my eyeballs moving!" I too, have no insurance, but was recently prescribed venlafaxine and amitriptyline both at low doses, but I can not afford to refill them so I am cold turkey for less than a week now. I have developed nausea(expected) but the tinnitus and "gnawing" are terrible along with dizziness and what I say is a lack of body temperature regulation. I am hoping this is withdrawal symptoms and will pass soon, although flu-like symptoms are creeping in, and this is starting to creep me out because it is impossible to go through the day without moving my eyeballs. Any suggestions would be great.
just curious have any of you recently stopped taking effexor? or are you on wellbutrin?  the reason I ask is I've started having the same problem with hearing my eyes shortly after stopping effexor.  I believe it to be a withdrawl symptom or a side effect of wellbutrin that wasn't present while i was still on the effexor
