Audible noise when moving my eyes

This doesn't happen always, but between 5-10 times a week I will hear (or appear to hear) a noise which vaguely sounds like someone quickly ripping a piece of paper or cloth when I move my eyes from one point to another (left to right, up to down, etc). I guess I'm just trying to figure out is this really happening, or am I suffering from some type of auditory hallucination? There doesn't seem to be any single set of circumstances it occurs in. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

I am also experiencing this swish sound with eye movement. I stopped all antidepressants over 5 years ago as that is when this started. The recent episodes seemed to come about during high stress periods. Doctors have been no help so I have up on finding an answer.  ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed*** Please read our Terms of Use

For me, I hear a purring noise when I touch, or even bring my finger near as if to touch any area around my eyes.  This only happens when there is not other noise around.  I think I am the only one in the world who experiences this phenomenon.
I have developed a light sabor sound behind my eyes, When it happens it also feels like a vibration on my brain along with ears ringing loudly. I am glad I am not alone. Did anyone ever find a cure or something that would help? Or do I just need to put up with it and hope it goes away?
I tried to find the site listed below.. The site has either moved , stopped or doesn't exist anymore. Does anyone know where to find an updated version or site?
I have the SAME EXACT thing and the light saber noise is how I describe it as well. It is driving me absolutely crazy.
Wow, glad i found this site. I only get the "sandpaper on wood noise" when i move my eyes either left or right, never up or down, at least so far. A little background. I have suffered with ringing in the ears for about 30 years now and it gets a little worse every year. Its in both ears and rarely varies, but when it does it gets louder and higher in tone. I am retired USAF (right after Desert Storm) but don't think anything from the Air Force has anything to do with this. I have suffered from depression for over 40 years. I am now 64. The eye problem started, as best i can remember as my memory has been going bad for some time now, after starting on some antidepressants and i don't remember which ones, somewhere around 2000. At that time it got so bad I actually felt an electric shock go thru my body along with the very loud sandpaper sound with dizziness/disorienting. Nobody believed me and no doctors would listen, it got so bad I had to quit my job at a papermill. After about 2 years it went away, but has resurfaced at random over the years and I am suffering from it right now. It is getting worse but has not gotten to the electric shock part yet and hopefully won't. About 3 or 4 years ago I found out thru eye tests that i am losing fluid in both eyes and this is causing what is called "epi retinal membrane" and the eye surgeon will have to go to the back of the eyes and do some surgery to remove the membrane. Since the sandpaper problem started many years before the epi problem I don't think the 2 are related. One of the replies to this subject post mentioned Zyrtec and I will definitely try that. I have never been able to pin down what starts and stops it. And lastly, i have suffered from teeth grinding when sleeping, somtimes severe but have not got TMJ yet, thank you God! Have recently discovered that 1 vallium before going to bed almost completely stops my teeth gringing. I am not worried about being addicted to it due to my age and declining health/memory. Maybe all this "extra" info will allow someone to be better able to pin this down. I am sure it's more prevalent than people know.
I can also hear my eyes move (a kind of swishing, zipper sort of noise) when I move them back & forth & up & down when closed. This is usually when I first wake up. I also feel off-balance when I move my head quickly or look upwards with open eyes. Headaches, feeling nauseous, and dizzy have become regular. About four years ago I Googled my symptoms and found almost nothing, I also saw my GP who referred me to the ear, nose & throat dept in hospital for tests. ENT said I had a mini-stroke and referred me to the neurological (stroke) clinic where, after MRI scans I was told I had had a mini-strokes. I don't believe for a moment that I've had a mini-stroke (TIA) because my symptoms have "crept" up over a long period of time and gradually worsened - stroke symptoms come suddenly (at the time of the stroke and sometimes improve not get worse! Recently I again Googled "I can hear my eyes move" and many, many pages appeared on the subject. A doctor in the United States has discovered a condition that fits all my symptoms and may be enlightening to many of the people who have posted here. For more information simply search SCDS on Google or "I can hear my eyes move" as I did. I have since seen my GP, shown him my findings and he has made me an appointment at Southampton General Hospital on 3rd June 2015.
I did a search of SCDS and am pretty sure that is not what I have.
ADDENDUM: I tired using Zyrtec the same night I read this, got up the next morning and no eye movement noise! I was very happy. Did not take one the next night and felt it coming on again so started taking Zyrtec every night, but alas it got worse, not better. So I am taking it very night and really hoping it goes away again.
wow, great description! I get this whooshing from moving my eyes L and R but not up and down too!
On too of the constant hissng, I too suffer this zapping sound behind my eyes and in the front of the brain. I've suffered with migraine for most of my adult life. The hissing started about two months ago, the zapping just recently. I thought I was alone with the zappy issue. I too desire information to deal with this demon.
I've had this zzt-zzt sound while looking left or right with or with out turning my head for years! My eyes actually move with the sound like a camera trying to focus. It's very annoying and scary! Is it the blood pressure meds. I take maybe?
That's the same description I have but unfortunately this is new to me and have not yet bothered to get advice. Makes reading a nightmare
Last week I went to the ER due to pain in my joints and unable to move my right shoulder (cold weather, middle-age, and bad luck). As I was getting released, my head started buzzing. As I turned my eyes in all directions, a sound like zshew zshew zshew, usually about 3 in a row, would be in my ears, loudly. I had been experiencing the lightsaber noise for about a week before that, but nothing like the night I left the ER. Now it is constant as I move my eyes. I tried staring in one direction, or staring at the floor as I am walking, and the sound disappears. I am on venlafaxine and tamoxifin. The venlafaxine is being weaned off. This could be the culprit. I have tinnitus that just started 6 mos. ago after chemo and before radiation. I am otherwise very healthy, working, going to nursing school, and have a very full life. Except for the fact I could be Darth Vader's sister. I have tried diet changes, etc. Nothing is helping. Has anyone been successful in getting this sound to stop?
