I too experience this. After drinking, the next day I feel bruised all over. Especially my chest, neck ribs, vocal lair bone. Even my arms. I think i feel it more when I'm dehydrated as well. I am Caucasian and female, which most posts state that it is usually found in Asian males. I think if I drink more water while drinking it will helpband I will try it and let you all know if that helps
My daughter suffers the same thing and it takes very little alcohol to have this effect. We wondered if she was allergic to something in the alcohol. Also, a friend who has an intolerance to nightshade ( potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and aubergine ) tells us she suffers the same thing after drinking alcohol. But as yet we can't seem to identify the connection.
I am a 30 year old caucasion female and have had similar symptoms to some of the posts here.
Key points are;
It is always 24 hours after I drink alcohol (usually after the normal hangover)It is not improved by drinking loads of waterIt is worse with white wine and mixed drinksThe sensation is bruised skin around the neck area, shoulders, ribs and sometimes armsThe areas can be very painful to touch and I feel generally stiff and tired (regardless of sleep)It lasts for somewhere between 12 and 24 hours
I have been concerned about this for a while and have seen a few doctors, etc. Obviously the solution is not to drink (so please don't respond with that!) I don't drink that much anymore but it would be nice to know what is going on - as it is a pretty extreme reaction. Sometimes I get a massage to try and relieve the feeling but I am not sure if this helps or not.
I have read the articles on the suggested causes and nothing seems to quite fit - as it is not the muscles. I have assumed it is the lymphatic system but really I have no clue. It would be great to find out what it is!
Have you found out anything more about this? I have the same issue.
I have the same sensation and refer to it as 'body pain' to friends and family.It all started several years ago when I suffered from an eating disorder and started fasting followed by overeating. The days after I severely overate I felt swollen and exhausted and the back of my neck, sides of my ribs, back of my arms and my stomach were all sensitive to touch. Back then I would fast the day I was in pain and only drink water and tea, which usually cleared up the symptoms within 24 hours. Now that my eating is completely normal again I still get this body pain when I eat just a little too many grains and when I drink too much alcohol. I had bloodwork done once while I was experiencing this pain (after overeating not after drinking alcohol - when these symptoms first started I did not drink any alcohol) the doctor said my liver was extremely inflammed and had levels of a fatty liver ....a week later I went back to get my blood tested again while I was not experiencing this body pain and my liver was completely normal as was all of my other bloodwork. The doctor did not know what it could be and to this day I do not know what causes this pain where my skin is sensitive to touch.
I also always feel extremely tired and groggy the next day. I can only explain it as some sort of allergy that inflames the liver (if that even exists). And the only thing that helps me getting rid of it is eating sensible and drinking a lot of water for about 48 hours after initial set in of pain.
I have also been experiencing this problem for the past 2 years or so. I started drinking when I was 18 and am now 26. I go out for a drink maybe once a month and then 24 hours later (after the regular hangover) the bruised pain starts and can last for 24-48 hours. I've been to the doctors twice and both times been told "It's probably gastritus, try taking ranitadine" but I know that this is not gastritus. I tried ranitadine anyway just to give something a go and this doesn't make any difference. I have also tried taking milk thistle but this doesn't help either. Hope someone manages to find out what this is, as my doctors surgery seems to be useless!
I have written on this thread before,I am a female caucasian, and I've had these symptoms for about 10 years now, happened out of the blue. like all of you I have the same symptoms, mine occur after 12 hours. 2 years ago I had two very intense episodes and decided to stop drinking all together, at the same time I read this thread. When I got back to drinking, about 8 months later, I took great care to always be hydrated, and by hydrated I mean that I always now drink at least 3 liters of water a day and if I drink I can easily drink 5. I add minerals in a sachet, I live in a hot country a take one a day. I never had the symptoms again. I also was informally diagnosed, finally. It seems to be a very peculiar form of Rhadbomyolisis, but different from anything you find in the net. It is hoever associated with alcohol, triggered by it, or better, by the dehidration it causes it.
Really there is no cure for Rhadbo, just management. but nobody can tell me if the scheletal muscle distruction that occurs when you have rhabdo, still happens with this form, when you drink and you are hydrated. just because the symptoms are not there, it doesn't mean that the disease is not.
Anyway, I hope this is useful for some of you. There is no doubt in my mind this disease is maneageable, just what people like us need is a far higher level of hydration, with minerals and far more consistent. I never let elapse one day without beingwhat other people wuld consider, overly hydrated. But it works for me. I'm sure it will works for you too. Good luck
The alcohol damages amino acids, which are needed for energy. The amino acids convert to fat, interfering with energy pathways and producing large amounts of lactic acid, causing a decrease in energy and muscle recovery, while increasing muscle soreness.
