I agree with you about the conflicting information there seems to be relating to this procedure. I had this opp done on the 8th Sept '12 and to this day I'm still bleeding lightly. I've not been ask to return for a check up and compared the 'nightmare bleeding of fibroids' I shouldn't even be complaining.. I know that every individual's different and I can't imagine what it would be like to bleed as long as you have! I didn't have a choice of a hysterectomy just this procedure or a marina. Sometimes I still have chronic backache associated with fibroids . I hope it all worked out for you as I understand you chose the your choice for a hysteroscopy . I've just noticed the date of your entry!! Hope you still visit this site and can update us on the end result.

I had a Hysteroscopy, D&C, and Novasure endometrial ablation on September 4, 2012. This Tuesday will be 7 weeks since I had it done.

I haven't bled heavy at all, I haven't even had a medium flow. Honestly, since I woke up that day, the only thing I've had is spotting. It went from a light brown, to a kind of yellow/orange color, and then back to light brown again, no clots or anything.

This morning I went to the bathroom before I got in the shower and there was what looked like a chunk of brown tissue, about the size of a dime, on the toilet paper. Has anyone else had this happen? I wasn't told that I would be passing any tissue, and it smelled  like something burnt.  It was really gross! I have not had a fever, no cramping, and no nasty smell (until this "tissue). Is this a normal part of the healing process?

I am planning to call my doc in the morning, but any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

I had the ablation done and passed LOTS of tissue. Unfortunately the ablation didnt work for me and I'm schedules to have a hystorectomy. I stopped bleeding & passing tissue for approx. 2 weeks then started again. So to answer your question yes I believe the passing of tissue is very normal after this procedure. Good Luck, its sounds like it actually worked for you.

Donna, Thank you so much for your reply. I was starting to get worried that something was wrong. After I passed that one "chunk" of tissue, I am hardly having any discharge, next to nothing actually, just a tiny tinge of light brown only twice so far today. Maybe I had the spotting so long because my body was trying to expel it. Don't know, but I have scheduled an appointment with the doc, and now I'm not so sure I need to go.

I had an ablation three years ago. I am having very light periods lasting a few days and hardly requiring protection.  But, I also have spotting off an on the rest of the month. This is a brownish pink discharge, like old blood and it comes and goes all month long. It isn't enough to need to wear protection but is definitely there when I wipe. Is this normal?

Hi Ladies, I am 46 and had this procedure done Monday, October 1st. Did not need the pain killer subscribed. I had slight cramping that afternoon but went back to work on Wed. I did to much Wed at school and ended up take one more day, my fault completely! My question is I had slight bleeding and then it subsides then it starts up again, Is this normal?

I had an ablation done about a month ago. I was bleeding at first & then it was barely anything or as the doctor called it, "discharge". The doctor told me as long as there was no discharge, I could have sex with my husband. He did not tell me to wait 4 weeks like I see alot of women were told on this site. Now I'm bleeding heavily & not sure why. I don't know if I messed up something. Anyone else experience this??

I am wondering how many women DID NOT wait 3 to 4 weeks after the procedure to have sex. I waited just one week even though my OBGYN said to wait 3 and it seems the discharge and cramps have increased. Its been almost 3 weeks since I had my procedure done. Tomorrow I see my OBGYN and I will ask for a antibiotic for bacteria just in case. I feel my uterus is still healing but the sex isn't making it easy for my body to heal fast.

I had my EA done almost 3 years ago, I waited 6 weeks to have intercourse (you know, like when you have a baby!) and I don't think it matters, if you're in the so called minority that EA doesn't work for, then I think wait or no wait to have sex, you're just going to start bleeding again no matter what, unfortunately.

In the last 35 months, I had about 12 months where there was no bleeding, and maybe only a few days in that time where I had very light spotting,

Then I started back to normal periods (you know, 5 days bleeding and stop for 28 days) however about 6 months ago, I started to get what I consider abnormal bleeding occurring, it's like stringy clots and is almost black in colour, which I've been told is 'old blood'. I'm on blood thinning medication which, until starting to read this board, thought was having an impact on the bleeding as I started this time around.....about 8 or 9 weeks ago and it's been quite heavy and oh so painful....had a week off in the middle, but it's now back even heavier and more painful than before.

I also have cysts on both ovaries, but due to a blood clotting disorder, I'm unable to have a hysterectomy NOR any type of hormonal replacement or b/c pills....grrrrr why can't my body be normal.

By the way, I'm 44 years old now.

I had the HerOption cryoablation on 11/19/12.  I took a prescribed Valium 2 hours before the procedure.  The procedure was pretty much painless.  I got up afterwards to go to the bathroom and turned red and felt flushed, so they made me sit down for a few minutes.  My husband drove me home and I went back to work in my home office.  On day three, I started passing tissue that smelled pretty awful and I felt like I was getting a bladder infection, of course the night before Thanksgiving.  So, I just started drinking cranberry juice and did fine on Thanksgiving day. Either I wasn't getting a bladder infection or the cranberry took care of it.  Had a house full of company for Thanksgiving.   I decorated the house for Christmas today and am ready for the watery discharge to stop!  I know, I know...it hasn't even been a week.  :-D  I know it will continue for several weeks, but I'm ready for the wonderful results my friends have told me about.  But, I am concerned after reading some of the previous posts that it may not work.   My gyno suggested a hysterectomy, but I wanted to try this first.  I'm second guessing my decision now.  Anyway, just wanted to chime in on the conversation.

I had the Novasure ablation on 10/12/12. No pain following the procedure but lots of discharge, a few clots and some heavy bleeding for about a week, following by two weeks of discharge. It's been about a month since everything has stopped and no, much to my complete and utter despair, I have started a period. It's very heavy, very messy and just as bad, if not worse, than the constant bleeding I was having before the procedure. It's not fun to attend the company Christmas party, wondering the whole time if I'm leaking onto the white chair covers at the banquet tables! The doctor's office simply responded that the procedure is not guaranteed to stop bleeding and I should follow up for my yearly, let them know how things are going in another six weeks ... basically they don't have the answer and unless I want a hysterectomy, stop bothering with phone calls. I'm am so frustrated. It's an expensive surgery and I have not seen any benefit yet. My question is this ... if the procedure basically "burned" several layers of the tissue, HOW ON EARTH is this bleeding continuing? I don't understand. Does anyone have the answer because my doctor sure won't or can't explain it to me.

Ladies, I had the Nova Sure ablation three years ago and have only light periods now (although they still last about 10 days). I recommend that before you jump into surgery, finding out the underlying cause of your heavy periods. My doctor never addressed the cause and although I have eliminated the main symptom, I still have other issues. Is it a thyroid issue, hormone imbalance, perimenopause? I still have fatigue, body and joint pain, weight gain etc... and I am certain all of these symptoms were related to the bleeding problem. Perhaps if I had addressed the underlying cause I could have avoided the ablation. This is an easy fix for doctors, but we still wont know what's wrong with us!

This is really scary I had the ablation done on 5-30- 2009 (almost 4 years ago) and no bleeding at all even right after the NovaSure. On January 10, 2013 I wake with blood in the bed a little not much I have slight cramping not to bad I called my the nurse at the office and make an appointment for today at 3. I m readinf alot of blogs about this now and seeing that is is very common and disappointing at the same time that no one seems to have a better solution for it. I will make my doctor understand that this has to end i have gotten used of not having a cycle that he will find a way to make it go away without a hysterectomy. I do feel the cramps getting worse now about 4 hours later I will post exactly what my doctors says later today thanks for all the post they are very helpfull....

So I had a hysteroscopy, ablation, and a D&C on 1/3/12.  I didn't have any real side effects after the surgery, but I've had light bleeding every day since the procedures.  It seems to be heavier on days I work out.  I went to my doctor today (finally) and she suggested a Hysterectomy...I'm a little freaked out about it...don't really want to have it, but definitely want the bleeding to stop - that is why I had it to begin with, right???  Just wondering if anyone else had to have a hysterectomy to stop bleeding...  She did do an ultrasound and bloodwork today..  Thanks!!
