my husband has quit smoking a couple of times over the last few years and started back after several months of terrible diarrhea. We have talked to other "quitters" including his mother who also suffered from this problem. Please help.

Same side effect here, much to my surprise. Starchy foods, i.e. soda crackers or baked potatoes stop diarrhea. So I'm off cigarettes, but on crackers! Try it! It really works.
When u look this you seems to be stupid for scientific reason beacause when you quit its simply the tar moving from lungs to oesophegus that creates caugh to remove every junk which ia build from years by smoke if the caugh doesnt happen that its simply meaning its all junk going to your stomach and its getting out by stools and urine i didnt caugh anything from quit day and all junk going through stools check out your stool color you will know better scientific evidence of stupidity!
Does that involve a walk in care clinic to get the medicine? Or is it over the counter?

Don't drink milk, causes bloating and gas, plus it actually makes your stomach more acidic. And isn't good for your bones. Milk is bad. Drink lots of water.
I’m on day 3 of cold turkey and have terrible stomach pains and watery gassy diarrhoea... not having fun at all
Xrays are extremely harmful to your cells, potentially more so than smoking tobacco if you are putting high doses of them through your chest regularly.
So good to hear this and read all this. I quit smoking 2 weeks ago, the gas & diarrhea started 8 days ago. Going to the bathroom all day, waking up in the night, etc. I started to freak out! Went to my doc, said it may be a parasite. Did the stool test, came back negative. Now I'm really worried and wondering WTF? Then he suggested it may be related to nicotine withdrawal. Picked up the Immodium today, see how it takes tomorrow.
i am on my third day of quitting smoking and have had diarrhea my daughter in law has just informed me that its my body detoxing I was a smoker for 35 years
I'm having the same exact problems. I have lost over 10 pounds because it is so bad.
Last April I quit, same problems it was so severe I sometimes wouldn’t make it to the bathroom which caused more anxiety itself. I went to the doctor had an upper and lower GI she found nothing, changed my diet took anxiety medications and a higher grade Imodium it would not make it as urgent but still horrible. Went on for months! I would continue to go to her telling her nothing is working I did everything she asked exactly as told. I ended up missing so much work and got so stressed I gave up hope after quitting for almost 9mnths and the same problems I started smoking again wondering if it was due to the smoking as she told me she never heard of that or thought it has anything to do with it. Well 1 mnth after I started again it stopped completely. Due to finding a new job I had to wait for new insurance plan on going soon to bring my labs and experience to a new doctor. I would love to stop again but I could not live like that. Hopefully there is an answer.
I restarted smoking on and off about 2 years ago after being smoke free for 17 years. Im now 47 and was 28 when I stopped cold turkey. However, I have quit smoking several times for months at a time and everytime I stop the first symptom of nicotine withdrawal is diarrhea for me. I dont remember if I had the same symptoms when I was 28. I really believe that anyone can quit smoking as long as you are determined. After 1 week the craving completely go away. After 3 months its as if I was never was a smoker. Hope this helps.
Oh I forgot to mention that for me the diarrhea last about 3 to 4 days.
