you know what, ii will try the scratch test with some marijuana and see what happens, i wiould be thriled if the cause was simply allergic, but at the same time maybe devastated because there would be no way to fix myself, seeing as the damage would be permanet. its been 1.5 years since i last smoked and im not getting any better, just getting used to it.
its just so wierd cus i cant think of a single disease that has symptoms like the ones people on this board talk about. such excrutiating pains and in some people disfiguiring connective tissue atrophy, theres this other syndrome i was just reading about that its called cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, its similiar in the way that cannabinoids cause it, but it just causes vommiting.
the truth is its amazing how little peole are having bad reactions to marijuana now that there are so many people smoking it everyday, at potencyies many times higher than they used to be.
i cant beilvei that peole would take just a few studies that marijuana has a very high ld50 and say that the drug is "perfectly safe"
There are cb recetors on almost every tisue in the body, so its efect is so complex and ununderstood that its really difficult to say that it could ever be a safe drug.
also it seems that people selectivley ignore the fact taht marijuana is pro-psychotic, and has huge and misunderstood mental eefects, sure maybe no reefer madness, but this is an example of people just needing to let loose the desire to rebel against "common goverment fed knowledge" and now they are hurting because of it.
no drug is safe especially one as invasive as thc and the hundreds of other chemicals in that plant.
and no im not a government sponser or somethign.
i just wish people would get over the novelty of smoking pot and realize that its been mainstream for a long time now, theres nothing special about it, no governemetn conspircacyies, nothing is speical about being a pothead, except that your a druggey and it take over your life. the days when smoking pot was "cool" and "rebellious" is over, the stuff is just like alchool and tabaco now, everyone smokes it, get over it.
another way for me to prove the allergy thoeory is to load up on cimetidine and benadryl and some other anti-allerigcs and smoke some pot and see what happens haha. human guinea pig lol. honestly i cant think of why i never thought of that.
in any case i still think that the most probable cause of this sydrome causes people with genetically weak immune systems to become susceptible to underlying germs in their system based on marijauana strong immunosupresive effect and hormoone alerting effect. (and i have several reasons from my experince to back up this theory)
though it could be based on thc being stuck in the wrong (pain) receptor triggering release of damaing chemicals in the body
or it could be an allergy, which is probalby the most straightforward solution
or it could be the result of smoking lots of pesticide ridden weed, though this is unlikely
or it could be a result of some other complex hormonal and genetic combined factor
or it could even be a simple result of marijuana effect on the mind assuming the link between brain and body is strong enough, with enough strong negative emotions over an extended enough period of time, to cause widspread health issues.
in any case, even if this was a simple allergy, which im not wilnig to admit any time soon, the specific symptoms of this specific syndrome are so very intriguing and so very unusual, that it warrants much investigation. and im sure certain groups of people would jump at the chance to prove to peopple that marijauana is bad for you.
and im not saying that marijuana should be kept illegalized, or be demonized, just that people need to be warned of its real effects on health, some people can handle it, but some people cant.
i never thought I would be the one telling people to stay away from pot, looking for reasons why it could damage your health, warning people, yet i am, experieince is everything.
Dear Guest,
i would be unbelievably thrilled if you could get a study going on this, i would wish to help out any way i could, that sounds incredibly exitiing.

That's how I feel about it, too. (I have spinal disc bulging, and started having pains a bit less than a year after starting to use it more regularly, mainly as a sleeping aid, which I have sometimes regretted although it helped me a lot.)
I might have missed someone else posting this, but, next to the intuitive hypothesis that cannabis (clearly) relaxes muscles, thereby making an increase of pain likely with some conditions, the following article seems to be a very convincing and important piece of the puzzle:

I have seen that article as well. I sure would like to get my hands on a cannabinoid receptor blocker like the one used in the study to see if my pain would go away. Unfortunately, the FDA no longer allows those drugs to be sold in the U.S. I hear you can still get them in Europe. They are marketed as weight loss drugs.

I was reading that one sign of lung cancer...or for some, the only sign, was back pain. I have smoke a few blunts in my time. I was very worried when I started getting pain. I have to say I just took the advice of the person who cried dehydration because I tried to think back to when my pain started. It was definitely since I stopped my alcohol abstinence. So I am going to test that theory out some more. I drank quite a bit of water and after a bit I felt a huge pain reduction and to the point of almost gone. I tried smoking and still the pain is nothing like it was before. I am gonna try to stay hydrated today and cut the alcohol out again. Got back into it over the holidays celebrating with my bro. If the pain doesnt go away I guess I will give up the weed and bust out the treadmill for fun....sheesh. Must everything fun kill you?
try opiates lol jk, um yeah hydration ive realised helps me alot too, but i doubt its the cure haha.
Alright guys, I've read through almost all of these posts and marijuana must be the culprit. For the past 4 months I have had the same problems as all of you. My right side first started aching under my ribs. Then I thought it was a joint injury, I went to the doctor 5-6 times with no answer. The pain lingered on for a long time. It got worse as well. Now my neck is stiff and hurts when I smoke, I have lower back pain, abdominal pain, and shoulder pain. When I take a deep breathe sometimes I can here a pop in my chest. I have a scheduled CT scan on February 8th. I will let you guys know what the problem is. Thanks for all the posts though. It feels good knowing I'm not the only one.
Agree 100% I have hurt my neck and back I'm in the most pain when relaxing. If I am active I am in very little pain, but as soon as I sit down the pain starts. Smoking weed greatly increases the pain. Also I found (but don't know if it is true) some sites claim certain studs and smoking combinded can cause lower back pain.
It is very upsetting. Ive smoked for half my life and now I can feel the nerves in my leg jump and my back hurts if I smoke. Im gonna smoke one more time just to make sure though. Only kidding I really want to but its not worth the pain.
I have been smoking steady for 18 years. I live a very functional successful low impact life and job, a lot of driving in my own "comfortable" vehicles, knees always above hips.
About 4 yrs ago I started pain right below my left ribcage almost into the stomach of muscle tissue and spreads throughout my chest and around ribcage into a spot on my back below my left shoulder blade, almost feels like the pain goes through my body front and back. I have been to: Chiropractors, Spine hospitals, MRI, cat-scan, heart checks, mio view, stress test all blood work, normal except a little high blood sugar, moms side...lol, BP has been rising slowly over the last year as well, They have checked me all over with no solid answers. Docs of various backgrounds, always focusing on ribcage, sternum and spine and general back. Sternum is very tender and sensitive. One doc called it arthritis, one muscle spasms, back does have knots all over from this condition, one doc said displaced rib popping in and out of my spine and of course bad alignment, which I don't doubt, posture is bad and I drive 3000 miles a month. Pain stayed through various changing vehicles. The pain is bad and annoying, I manage it with pain meds and occasional meds for inflammation NSAIDS. Seems worse in evenings. My current doc, is convinced that bottom of ribcage and top of hip bones ride against each other when I am driving or sitting. I am not svere overweight prob 15 pds over, but am stocky build with a short torso, 5 ft 8 inch.. but I cant buy this diagnosis. This doc just puts a opiate bandaid on it, see me in a month, always checking my liver for Tylenol death.
Now to the subject, when I smoke, good or schwagy This pain gets intense like a hot knife going through my core under my left ribcage and spreading fire through my rib bones into my back and out through the muscles in all areas. It hurts so bad it feels so good to massage the cartilage in between my ribs, as well as the tissue under my skin on top of ribcage. Crazy huh? I smoke cigs all day with no pain worsening at all, only grass. Heating pad usually calms it down for awhile then just pass out., cause you know I haven't quit token, pain or not.
They even took my gallbladder thinking it caused the pain through from front to back. Nope
It feels like a muscular issue, very tender, but I have had all of that checked by specialist in Wichita. Kansas Spine Hospital and others.
Just looking for help, can't take narco pain meds for ever, I am almost 40, gotta stop those soon.
Signed, Pain in my chest is a pain in my ass.

Hey, read your post, if you ever find out what kind of disease is causing your pain, please let me know, Ive had similar symptoms with the left side of ribcage and so on.
That's where mine started. Welcome to the club, bro. It sucks. Mine has gotten progressively worse because I didn't stop using soon enough. I switched from smoking, to vaporizing to ingesting. Didn't matter. Now, it has attacked my lungs. I'm short of breath almost all the time along with the pain. The original pain as you described still occurs along with more widespread pain.***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web

The problem is that we cannot get our hands on endocannabinoid blockers in the US. The FDA made them illegal due to suicidal thinking by those who took them. I've been in pain for over 3 years now. I'd try anything at this point.

I'm 30 years old and I've been smoking for many years. I hurt my back at work and discovered I have arthritis in my upper back and kyphosis. Since I've hurt my back, every time I smoke, it makes the pain in my back worse. Don't understand why since I've been smoking for many years now and never caused any pain before. MS runs in my family, but don't have health insurance and the emergency room just tells me I pulled a muscle gives me naproxen and sends me on my way.
Read this entire thread because I have encountered the same thing as others. I have a bulging disc in my lower back. I smoked almost daily for 8 months (post-injury) with no problem at all. Then one day after smoking my lower back felt incredibly tight, eventually going into sharp spasms. I took some muscle relievers that the doctor had prescribed me, which finally took effect after about an hour and a half of spasms. Along with the spasms, I felt as though the disc physically slid out of its place in the spine and toward the bed as I laid on my side in agony. A similar thing occurred the next few times I smoked, so I quit smoking altogether. This was months ago.
As I stated, I read through the entire thread and not a single person seems to have been able to alleviate this reaction to marijuana once it occurred the first time. Is there ANYBODY that was able to smoke pain-free afterward?
Muscle relaxers* not relievers
I think my issue is smoking in public or large crowds, the anxiety builds up and I feel uneasy and pain can occur as well throughout my body. I mainly smoke now when I am up north at my cottage (pain free) or if Im by myself or with one or two people.
Another thing too is dont smoke so much. I take one or two hits and its enough to give me a nice feel but not have me baked out of mind. I cant get super baked anymore for fear of anxiety and pain, as well as the next day hangover (tiredness) that comes with it.
