Please keep it mind that marijuana effects the brain in which most doctors are strongly against due to a lack of clinical, controlled, scientific data. Most medical doctors are against it because solely of this, and because we don't know exactly what it is doing to your (unique) mind.

As with alcohol, (or any other drugs you choose to do) moderation is extremely important. For the majority of smokers, the more marijuana you smoke on a day to day basis the more contraindication that it will catch up with you in 5 years. (Lung Cancer, Throat Cancer - assuming the user is smoking blunts daily, as well as Possible Hypertension in some).

If you absolutely have to smoke, please do so accordingly to prevent any more serious medical conditions from developing. Also, taking a multivitamin in conjunction with Vitamin D and COq10 daily will help reverse some of the negative side effects expressed here. I generally smoke pot on a daily basis. Two weeks ago I sustained a an injury to my leg from running allot (IT band syndrome). This is caused by friction at the knee cap, where the IT band become inflamed. I feel pain at the side of the knee and all the way up the side of my thigh to my hip. I've realized that when I smoke pot all of a sudden it hurts more. Sometimes it won't hurt at all until I smoke weed! I'm currently not smoking it and what do u know, no pain right now. Most of the people I hang out with smoke weed, they all think I'm crazy when I try to explain this to them. I've always thought that weed had allot of medicinal benefits, but apparently not in this circumstance. Someone should clear this allot up, allot of people tend to think its the 'wonder drug'. All I want is to get over this injury so that I can get back to smoking that purple coush.

Last year I had some gastrointestinal problems for which I had to have an endoscopy to codorize a ruptured artery in my stomach. Since then I've had an onslaught of stomach issues. When I smoked, I would get this gnawing pain in my upper abdomen that would eventually move to my lower back. Now, it seems to just be concentrating on my lower back. I have smoked daily for about 2 years now and I use a vaporizer with non-laced hydro. I never had any pain until the ruptured artery happened, what the hell is going on?

I am high right now and decided to do some google searching now as apposed to tomorrow - just in case I forgot ;-)

Anyway, my back is sore just to the insides of my lats and I caught myself walking with a poor posture (like an old man - even though I'm in my forties). Holly sh*t, you don't suppose I really am getting old - LOL

Seriously, not a cool thing - I would hate to give up the occasional high. But I've got to admit, there does seem to be a correlation.

Hello!

I suffer backpain and pain in my legs and hands. I broke my back while playing badminton. I have smoked cannabis about 12 years and few years daily after the badminton accident. I have suspected that is it cause of cannabis? Sometimes it relief the pain.

I have to say that my relatives have backpain problems too. Specially the pain in hands and legs is horrible.

continues, I forgot to say that my relatives does not smoke cannabis. Maybe this is just that cannabis is VERY illegal here in Finland and I just feel wrong to use cannabis. It really relief the pain sometimes, but sometimes I wonder if it somehow cause the pain too.

At least the pain there has been described is just the same that I have. Except pain in ribs.

I have had little bit similar pain even years before I started use cannabis. There is rheumatic symptoms in my family too.
But the pain in my childhood was not so horrible than nowdays.

This is all really amazing to read. I have had SERIOUS lower back pain for months, if not years now...and progressively getting worse. The pain is on the sides of my spine in my lower back....and also deep pain in the low low back, right at the top of my butt. I have had a Chinese Chriopractor tell me its a kidney infection and that i have Gold in my kidneys (possibly from smoking out of a flute that i made into a pipe....long story). ive had another person tell me the same thing: kidney infection. Yesterday i didnt smoke all morning, then i took 1 or 2 small hits of shake from my bubbler and 5-10 minutes later....back pain for an hour or two. Today i havent smoked at all....and i played Volleyball, walked all over in flip flops (without my Orthodics which i usually can never do without pain)...and i feel GREAT. no pain at all. It is the weirdest thing that i have no pain because i have been smoking for about 5 years now with no more than maybe 20 days throughout that time of not smoking. It is my "do it all" medicine for stress, depression, and an alternative to drinking alcohol and doing other drugs. It also helps me EXTREMELY when i am unmotivated. I can smoke and work for hours on anything!

I just want to say that it is good to hear that others feel that smoking does this to them too. however...i do NOT think it has to do with marijuana/cannibis. i think it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that we are SMOKING it.... I am going to take a few days off to see how i feel. I am then going to eat some edible marijuana cookies or other food and see if it makes my back hurt. Smoking causes lack of oxygen to the muscles and inflammation. it will be interesting to see these results unfold.

^^^^ TOTAL BULL!!!

you do not get back pain from withdrawal.

i had horrible back pains from weightlifting injuries, and now i smoke pot every few days when the pain comes back, my sciatic nerve is under pressure, so my back is fine just the nerve is sending pain signals. when i smoke the pain is almost 100% gone, i know that it is still there but it doesnt bother me, i can sleep well and not have to wake up all night.

Recently I had to take a drug test, didnt smoke for 2 months, and felt no difference in anything.

No withdrawal symptoms, no pain, just the occasional nerve pain that i was used to, and so i started taking ibuprophin, yeah it works, but stomach bleeding and liver damage are not so appealing, compared to with marijuana no damage whatso ever not even lung damage, i vaporize my weed

I would hestitate to say that someone is talkinga bout 'total bull' because it's really an individual experience, and what some people feel, others don't. THC is, not surprisingly, a drug and it affects different people differently. That's his experiences, and it could be related to THC, because it can cause muscle sorness in some people. Did you know that?

I too think I may have back pain from smoking mary jane. I went backpacking one weekend like I always do although this was a little more strenuous trip than usual. ( I am avery active, healthy person) When I retuned I began having terrible back pain. It was to the point I couldn't move, not able to get into a car, anything really. I went to the emergency room and was told back pain is very common and I probably had strain to my muscles and lower vertebrae. I also had nerve sensations like pins and needles down my left leg and on my left forearm. Ok, I bought that. Then I started noticing the pain has almost completely gone, but the nerve sensations return when I smoke, to the point where I can't sleep and am posting this at 3am. I did not want to believe it was from weed and it was hard to tell at first cause I was smoking so much to try and relive the pain. All symptoms had almost gone when the other week I at a weed brownie that I made, a particularly strong one at that. And the nerves on my left side, especially in my arm went almost completely numb, like as cold as I have ever been. Then I stopped for a couple weeks, went backpacking again and suffered no pain. Then I smoked later in the week and the nerve sensations returned. Not really anything muscular, I'm thinking of giving a little more credence to the sciatic nerve theory posted earlier, or maybe the post from the nurse, as I have been a smoker for many years before this. Let me know if anyone else is having nerve problems like this, many of the posts seem to be muscle related.

That´s really odd. The pain i have is like tickling but really bad tickling! It's so nasty. I hope that it's not cased by ganja.
I have not ceased though I read this one month ago.
But I have cut down a lot. Really stopping this. But one time i was like one year off and I still had that pain and worse than under period of smoking.

I think that it'd be a good idea just to rule out marijuana as a source by not smoking it for a bit. I don't think that's the source either, but it is best to verify. What do you think?

Ok guys here's what you do, lean back with the painful place into a protruding corner, like a doorway corner, and 'massage' yourself by going left and right while still leaning on it, after doing this a couple of times you should not only feel immediate relief but also be better in a couple of days.... There, that's the solution. It's the inflammation of muscles combined with wrong nerve commands that keep the muscles at state-ready all the time. Possibly because every one of you here has to hide their smoking habbits from someone, just like me who's had this for over a year and has tried everything until the afore described self-curing thing. Good luck and report back here with results ;-)

I think everyone should read this article, I think it could shed some light into why we have pain when we smoke.

I too suffer from these back spasms. The only thing i have noticed that can counter them is to get primed off hard liquor before you smoke and you wont notice the pain. I have tryed anti-inflammatorys and they dont work. Muscle relaxers dont work either they make it worse, which comes to my point. If i flat out smoke i get muscles spasms that are the worse pain i have ever had in my whole in tire life. I Have a 40-45 degree curve from scoliosis. I only had about a 10 degree through high school and still would never get these spasms. For me obviously my muscles are already placed in a weird fashion because almost half my spine is on the left side. My right shoulder muscles are probably set in bad position already because i don't have a straight spine its over to the left. My theory is that marijuana relaxes the muscles when they don't need to be relaxed. There fighting to stay put its almost like making the muscles lazy and breaks down the strength of them or makes it so they dont support the shoulder as they should. The alcohol numbs everything but u dont want to become an alcoholic like me now. Most of the time i have to get so plastered that i dont even remember the high or basically it feels like im just wasting it.
